Anybody reading anything good this weekend?

I am between books I have just finished Giovanni's Room, short book, 160ish pages long about two gay men. If you feel like having your heart torn out and stamped all over, read this. Seriously though, it is a good book.

And Marble Hill Murders by Antony Horowitz. The latest in the Susan Ryeland series. Brilliant book. My favourite of the series - you do need to read the other two first though.

giovanni’s room is a MASTERPIECE. absolutely devastating book.

i’m reading the very secret society of irregular witches and liking it a lot - very cosy autumn read. also literally collected the strength of the few an hour ago and what an absolute chunk of a book i can’t wait to read it!

i adore that book. it has many many flaws and i agree with all the critique about it but it gave me the book hangover to end all book hangovers

I can’t wait to read it but also now putting off starting / saving it for the right time aka when I can get stuck in!

I’ve just started The Knight and the Moth (Rachel Gillig), I had planned to read something else to tick off a Goodreads bookmark challenge but romantasy was calling me.

I am reading The Strength of the Few, I will be making no comment on it until I have finished it, other than I think it will be a two read book.

Re reading my comment “enjoying it” seems the wrong comment to make. I definitely understand the critique I’ve seen, but I think you can interpret and take the content either way. It’s very well written and I’d hate to think how the author has such a deep understanding of the type and impact of such trauma and abuse.
I spent 30 mins crying non-stop reading it the other day 🫣

Giovanni's Room is a masterpiece.
I'm reading The Land in Winter and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Has anyone read Caledonian Road by Andrew O’Hagan? I’ve started it and it feels quite hard work at the moment 6 chapters in. I can’t quite work out if it’s worth persevering with as it’s so long, I’m not sure if it’s just me not being in the mood or if it’s overhyped.

I wanted to read this but heard it’s hard and traumatic! I can’t summon myself to read it.

I’ve just finished the favourites - giving Taylor Jenkins Carrie Soto (recommend) . But so much more misery. Kept me captivated but would not recommend. The skating bits were good and the. Competition but the character dynamics had me cringing.

The Woman In The Cabin - Becca Day
The Wife Swap - Jack Heath
The Mistake - Jack Heath
Girl Falling - Hayley Scrivenor
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - Suzanne Collins

I borrowed all these through my library ebook app and just read them on my phone. It was quite a struggle to find ones I liked but I'm pleased I've finished 8 this year. I'm currently reading, and have almost finished Alchemised by SenLinYu. I bought the physical copy, it's a beast

Looking forward to seeing your recommendations, hopefully my library has them!

I have! It is very long, and seems not to be doing much for a while, but I did enjoy it.

I read this quite recently and feel like it’s definitely worth persevering with. It’s long with a big cast of characters but the cast list helps and it all falls into place fairly soon. Enjoy!

Started reading Divine Might by Natalie Haynes. I'm not a fan of her fictional work but her non-fic Greek mythology books are right up my alley. I loved Pandora's Jar and this seems like it'll be a 4-star too.
