I’ve started the first DS Nathan Cody book after seeing it mentioned here. Really enjoying listening to it so far. Can’t wait to drive to work so I can listen to more.

I’m halfway through The Quarry Girls and I’m a little bored but it seems a shortish book so I’ll stick with it. It’s reminding me of The Virgin Suicides.

I finished the Twyford Code last night and 🤔 I’m not sure if I liked it or not. Seemed a bit overly drawn out and complicated but I did enjoy the idea of it. Having looked at Amazon reviews on here it, it seems to have had mixed reviews so I won’t let it put me off trying another of hers
I wasn’t a fan of twyford code either.

I loved the appeal so went into TC with high hopes and it was bit of a let down.

I finally read a good book! The average to bad book run of 2025 is over!! I read Such Quiet Girls by Noelle W. Ilhi and I could not put it down!! I was reading it through the night when. I couldn’t sleep then said last night I’d read for ten minutes then sleep as I wasn’t feeling too well l but ended up reading for 90 minutes so I could finish the book. Easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for me!

For Janice Hallett, The Examiner is probably my favourite of hers. The Appeal is my least favourite but probably her most popular? Then noone ever seems to talk about Alperton Angels but I loved that one too.

Picked up both Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin and Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami as Kindle Daily Deals today which I’m excited about. Both books that always seem to crop up on those “100 must read books” type lists so intrigued to see if I end up agreeing!

I've actually read two Baldwin books this month and loved them, though unhelpfully neither were Giovanni's Room. I do remember GR getting a great reception here last time it was on kindle deals, because I bought it myself off the back of that

The Appeal is on kindle deals this month! I’ve bought it. It’s not 99p but I think £1.80 or something like that

I haven’t read much Baldwin which is one of the reasons I picked up GR today. I read If Beale Street Could Talk a few years ago, I think prompted by the film adaptation coming out, but interested to read more of his stuff.

There is a nagging voice in the back of my mind telling me that I maybe should have read Go Tell It On The Mountain many years ago for a university course but I’m pretty sure I didn’t! 😂

Going to need the list, please, @LaBlonde! I hope I score more highly on yours than on the NY Times top 100!

@daisynoon are you working your way through the NYT 100?

I've got it as a Storygraph challenge, I've read 16, I don't think I'll ever complete it.

I am not! A worthy ambition but I see A Little Life on the list and I know I'll never manage it, since even the cover makes me feel sad.

Yeah it's a pretty tough read, in length as well as subjects.

I know I'll never read them all as there's some I'm not interested in but thought I'd try as many as I can
