I’ve just finished Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney. I always struggle with unreliable narrators, but quite enjoyed this until the end, which was just huh?! Had to Google it and saw lots of others were confused too, which made me feel better. I thought I’d missed a chapter!

The ending did not make a lick of sense! I didn't want to waste Spotify hours re-listening to understand it but Googled was happy to see I wasn't alone in being completely confused.

Disclaimer that I'm pretty sure I'm incapable of rating KJ Charles less than 4 stars, but I loved it! It's such a cleverly woven neat little book, and I also love how she highlights little sections of history, like the lives of amputees after war.

(If you haven't read The Duke at Hazard, that's now one of my favourite Charles books. Also, I hope this doesn't make you expire with jealousy, but she's moderating a talk I'm going to in a couple of weeks...)

back to say that i read copper script in almost one sitting today and she really can do no wrong! i love how well researched her books always are, and that you care deeply about her lead characters so instantly. i’m still very jealous of you going to her talk!

Don't be jealous; the talk got cancelled because the other author (T Kingfisher, also a favourite) had issues with her flight hoping Charles tours a little for one of her upcoming releases, I think the one next year might be with Tor?

But yes! Copper Script was delightful, and I absolutely love the moment where one of her characters describes the other in a not-particularly-impressed manner, and you're sitting there, thinking, you fool. You have no idea what's coming.

I was also really interested to read her notes on graphology at the end. Also the point about amputees in the war, and how they struggled afterwards. Also Aaron's writing under duress and how you knew it would affect Joel, I love payoff moments like that.

I actually finished one of her books a couple of days ago, Unfit to Print. Would have loved to have read about her motivations for that one, it felt like it was in conversation with the Bernard Shaw play Mrs Warren's Profession

I read it in hardback from the library and loved it so waited for paperback release date.

Hiya just to say I saw it in Asda just now. There were only a couple copies left in mine so maybe it’s really popular

I read Butter, and it's not the sort of book i'd normally read. I don't tend to go for lit fic kinda stuff, because it certainly wasn't a crime thriller.

And while I'll never read it again, it was very thought provoking, around it's themes of Japanese culture, feminism, misogynism, beauty standards etc. And did make me stop reading a few times to give me a chance to let chapters percolate and my thoughts develop.

And it read really easy for me. After the first couple of chapters, where it was slow for me to get into, once I got going with it, it amazed me how quickly I got through the book, especially because I've been in a bit of a reading slump recently, so busy with work not had the mental energy to read. This was really good.

I'm 80% through it and I agree with you, it's a really fab read.

Really enjoyed it and was totally immersed into their world and lives. I’m such a sucker for multi-generational family saga’s.

I’ve started radium girls from the library, I haven’t even finished but I feel like it’s a 5*, it’s written so well and you really get a feel for the girls’ characters

i felt the same about atmosphere and gave it the same amount of stars! the writing was also just so flat throughout for me, i couldn’t connect to any of it at all. probably my least favourite tjr!

Finished the first 3 Strike audiobooks read by Robert Glenister which were enjoyable though a bit cringe when he was doing his, erm, foreign accents. Want to pick a new book to actually read not listen to but struggling, of course I want to buy a shiny new one and not read any of the mountain of unread books I already have

I finished Wedding People today and am on the ‘it was really good’ side for the thread fence! Haven’t decided on my star rating yet but definitely 4.something. Not a 5 star due to no massive emotional reaction.. did laugh a few times throughout tho and think I’ll think about these characters in the future

I finished the Twyford Code last night and I’m not sure if I liked it or not. Seemed a bit overly drawn out and complicated but I did enjoy the idea of it. Having looked at Amazon reviews on here it, it seems to have had mixed reviews so I won’t let it put me off trying another of hers

I haven't read that, but really enjoyed The Examiner, which was a popular read on here too. The Appeal is also a good read.

I’ve still to read The Appeal and The Twyford Code but The Christmas Appeal was very good
