So this happened the other night. 52 books has been my yearly goal for a while (one book a week 😏) but I’ve only ever managed it once and now I’ve done it with more than half a year to go!! Partly due to prioritising reading, deleting tik tok off my phone and not having to sit with my daughter while she goes to sleep.

I have practically devoured book after book for five months…and now I’m in a slump. Would rather read here or watch tv and it’s really annoying but I know it will pass. But isn’t it weird how we change what we want to do without any real reason.

Hello. I hope you don’t mind me joining in this thread. I’m just getting back into reading after 12 years of hardly reading anything (young kids, stress, etc).

Nearly finished The Silent Patient. I was going to buy one of the many books recommended on here but I realised I have Nine Perfect Strangers and Big Little Lies sitting in my cupboard waiting to be read. So I will move onto one of those afterwards.

Just thought I’d drop in with some little book related updates. I miss being as active, and although I’m reading every day (got to keep that kindle streak!), I’m not as immersed with it all as I once was 😔. Life, eh?!

Anyway, I’m now on Q for my kindle reads and my only option is The Quarry Girls. Did anyone read it after they chose it as a First Reads back in October 2022?!

Audio wise, I’m on the last Magnolia Parks. Seriously, how has this series evaded me for so many years?!

I also have until Friday to finish the last Grant County before it’s returned to the library, so that needs to take priority!

In other book news, we have a Waterstones AND a new independent book shop opening soon in our town! 🥳

I also have two author events coming up. A panel including TM Logan and then I’m seeing Jacqueline Wilson 😭😭😭 I actually think I’ll be so nervous on the day, like a first date or something 🥹

Thanks for reading my update, if you got this far! I still enjoy popping in here and seeing what everyone else has been reading 😊

@Caffeine Fiend come back and do your review!
Hi lovely. I dont feel I really belong in this thread anymore, which is mainly my own fault, I stupidly seen it as a safe space for me when in reality the Internet isnt that and I naively let my guard down and forgot that not everywhere is a safe space and I am very much protecting my own peace. This is not aimed at anyone other than myself, I get carried away sometimes and forget that not everywhere is like the little circle Ive curated for myself offline.

That being said I hope you are feeling better and doing well ❤

My favourite book of the year so far is Hermit by Chris McQueer. Id really recommend it.

Well, I lasted 6 days without buying a kindle book, I’ve just bought the 5th book of The Inheritance Games as it was on The Daily Deal for 99p. It’s been on my wish list since 8th August last year so I’ve been waiting for a while for it to be reduced!
It is a truth universally acknowledged on this tread that if any book on your wish list becomes reduced to 99p, it’s a free pass on a book buying ban! Enjoy!

I’m not getting through quite as many books a month as I’m in my chunky romantasy era 😂 EmHen palate cleanser and I’m onto the Crescent City trilogy but there is not a chance I’ll finish before the end of the month!

My reading has dwindled so much recently because work has been busier, and I’ve just been reading enough of my kindle each day to keep my streak. However, I got up early today and had a couple of hours chilling with my dog before anyone else was up. I’ve then done the same again for the last hour and I’ve read about 25% more of The Nothing Man.

I feel so much better than I have all week! I’m not saying it’s because I’ve been reading, but ya know… it’s probably because I’ve dedicated the time to reading ☺

Hello fellow bookworms!
I have crawled out of the rock that is tv/fanfic brain rot and I’m ready to read my first book of 2025 (only took 6 months 🙈)

I’ve been given a box of agatha christie books and I’ve almost got the complete poirot collection so I’ll be exclusively reading these for the rest of the year!

I read Butter, and it's not the sort of book i'd normally read. I don't tend to go for lit fic kinda stuff, because it certainly wasn't a crime thriller.

And while I'll never read it again, it was very thought provoking, around it's themes of Japanese culture, feminism, misogynism, beauty standards etc. And did make me stop reading a few times to give me a chance to let chapters percolate and my thoughts develop.

And it read really easy for me. After the first couple of chapters, where it was slow for me to get into, once I got going with it, it amazed me how quickly I got through the book, especially because I've been in a bit of a reading slump recently, so busy with work not had the mental energy to read. This was really good.

I have just finished reading The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey. This is only 5 star read so far this year .

I absolutely loved this book. The characters felt very to me they were real, layered, and full of heart. I felt drawn into the characters lives and the community in which the novel is set.

The story is set in the 1970s, the setting felt very familiar as I was born in the same era. The details rang true: the language used ( whilst im not from Yorkshire I’m from Lancashire I am familiar with the terminology used in the book. The attitudes of people and the atmosphere of the era brought back memories of my own childhood.

The biggest stand out for me is how Jennie Godfrey handled multiple very serious issues that people experience in real life with sensitivity. Issues such as
Domestic violence, alcoholism, racism, misogyny, grief

these issues are all shown through the eyes of a young girl who doesn’t quite know how to make sense of what is happening around her?

I can’t say enough positive things about this book. It is definitely in my top 5 favourite ever reads .

Has anyone else read it?
