Also totally agree about avoiding books that sound “twee”, to me that also tends to mean predictable and cliche.

My March! Bit of an odd month's reading from me, ending on what felt like a rushed sequel (The World We Make) and White Nights, which I wasn't in the right frame of mind for. I do love the cover of Glorious Exploits glaring at the rest of my books.
Argh can I add “space” to my immediate put downs. Anything to do space just doesn’t interest me in life, let alone in a book!
5 in March for me (plus half of The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah which so far is restoring a bit of my faith in her books after I hated The Four Winds!)
Pretty good all round I think, Number Thirty Two and Frankie probably my faves. I did have some mixed feelings about The Water Dancer. For the most part I loved it - beautiful writing, great characters, important story - but I felt like the mystical element of it jarred a bit. It felt uneccessary, especially when real life characters like Harriet Tubman were brought into it. It was a compelling enough story without needing any added extras.

I’m put off reading Number Thirty Two as the author is always on tiktok raving on about her most favourite books, first of which is always her own book.
My March reads, and in my usual easily pleased style I enjoyed them all in their own way. The Hunger Games was a reread (on audible) and probably my favourite.
Has anyone read the Romanitas trilogy by Sophia McDougall? I've nearly finished the first one and I found the premise and the basic story interesting, but it does plod a bit. Are the others worth reading?

I just popped into the works and the 3 for £6 is now 3 for £7.50

Yeah, I have seen this and the price increase seems to be getting very mixed reactions. That being said the range of books hasn't changed as the same books are in that were in 2 months ago. In fact (controversial opinion) I don't think the books they are choosing are as good as they were before.

I never used to walk out of The Works empty handed, now I struggle to buy anything.
Too much BookTok Tessa Bailey style cliche rubbish that isn't well written enough for me to enjoy.
Lots of those really twee books that have a rustic oldie village and woman on a bicycle.
Thrillers/crime but again too many trying to follow the Richard Osman formula and be even worse than TMC series.
Like you I would always buy books from The Works but nowadays I don't buy any as they aren't as good as they used to be and aren't really what I read. For me they seem too focused on BookTok books which I don't read as they simply aren't my cup of tea.
