Any fellow Marlow Murder Club fans, is the second series not based on the second book? I was about to put it on and read the synopsis and it’s not the same right? Or am I going mad? What a shame I presumed they would follow the storylines of the books

The first two parter of series 2 was an adaptation of the second book. Then there are two more two-parters which are new stories, not based on the books.

Has anyone else ever read a book that they have previously DNFed but then picked it up again years later and enjoyed it? This is currently me with Bridesmaids by Jane Costello as I DNFed after a couple of chapters years ago, but I recently saw it in a charity shop and thought go on then I'll give it another go and see what I think of it and I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying it.

I'm 70% through Powerless. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the controlling sex scenes and the choking during sex. I'm not sure the friends to lovers trope is for me either.

I might give the other 2 a go but after a bit of a break.

Aaah, I didn’t mind friends to lovers,particularly as she always had a thing for him and from the flashbacks I feel he did for her too. I understand why some would be turned off by the choking, I first time was light touch and he at least asked if she liked it, second time was a bit more aggressive though without any chat beforehand. I had no problem with the controlling sex scenes as although he was telling her what to do she wasn‘t overly submissive and very much knew she had the power. Perhaps might be worth giving yourself a palate cleanser before going in for the last 2. To be fair, I read them all in about 2 weeks, finished Hopeless 3 days ago and can’t really remember that much of any of them.

I’m 60% through Strange Sally Diamond now, strange is the word.

I did this with The Life of Pi. I think it just depends on how you are at the time.

It first came out in 2008 and I think I was only 13 or 14 when I first read it but now I'm 28 so it more than likely shows that my taste in books has definitely changed.

I'm watching them and have read the books. Seems like we got some bonus stories I am enjoying Samantha Bond as Judith.

They are such good books and such a good series. Samantha Bond is a delight as Judith. Just perfect.

I am two books down of the remaining five in the Tudor Queens series on my Kindle. Reading them in order so this week I have enjoyed Anne Boleyn, beheaded, and Jane Seymour, who gave Henry his much longed for male heir, but died two weeks after childbirth. Henry is buried beside her, so of all of them he must have liked her!

I really feel like I have been done a disservice by being born 500 years too late. I really want to go to Court and be a lady in waiting or a lady of honour.

Taking a break before Anne of Cleeves and an going to read Beneath Devils Bridge by Loreth Ann White.

truly unsure what to make of somewhere beyond the sea (after loving house in the cerulean sea). loving see the kids and everyone again but i can’t get past how heavy handed the message is, after he did so well to show and not tell in the first book.

also having a straight up jk rowling insert as the villain is wild (does she know about this?) - right down to describing her as looking exactly like her. struggling so far and it’s making me sad.

quoting myself to say this is getting added to the list of sequels to books i’ve loved that i now wish i’d never read

was it still very sweet? yes. did that cross the line into twee in a way that i didn’t forgive as much as in the first book? also yes. does chauncey still save the whole thing? almost.

is using jk rowling as your book’s villain AND dedicating your author’s note to how much you dislike her and signing yourself off as “the anti jk rowling” a bit much, tj klune? also yes. no comment on my own feelings about rowling here but i feel like an essay on how much he disagrees with her views could have been saved for non-fiction rather than masked in this. feel weird about it, have no idea how to rate it.

Ugh ive seen a lot of bad reviews for this one. I bought it but don't think I'm going to bother. While i quite liked the first one, i already found it pretty twee and only gave it 3 stars in the end. The jk rowling thing would take me over the edge I think.

i honestly wouldn’t (i know our tastes are similar so trust me on this ) - i didn’t even find the first one that twee so i think this one would be unbearable for you. it is also a lot of the author sermonising, which he doesn’t hide well.

I only read 5 books in total between Jan and Feb so to read 9 in March was a lot for me. I only read 20 books in total last year but I am watching less TV than usual and I have gotten hooked on planning my next read.
