@Caffeine Fiend quoting you as the thread closed, that's so sad about Denzil Meyrick, I discovered his books at Christmas and read his 2 Christmas murder mysteries... I love his writing style and I was going to pre-order his third Christmas book due later this year. I also have his other books on my TBR. Damn.

Coming back to Libraries…
My library is also amazing. If they don’t have a book in there they will arrange for it to be transported from another library in the borough and I can request they purchase a book I want to read and they very often do. They also run lots of children’s activities and don’t even charge late fees anymore! Which I’d happily pay to make sure we keep our library. Id actively campaign if I thought they were found to close my local library. They’ve already reduced the hours and have closed others in the area. It makes me so angry as they’re such an important resource.

Denzil Meyrick is one of my favourite. The DCI Daley series is about as good as they come.

So sad.

Might go back to the beginning and re-read them all.

59 is no age.

This audiobook was fantastic

I am currently reading god of the woods by Liz Moore- I think I like it? Its not as thrillery as I’d hoped

To be fair, as a kid I thought 'Beast' was better looking as a beast (I still kinda do 😬)

Update on A Civil Contract : finished and it's definitely a 4 or 5 stars! The male interest gets a bit better on the second half, his growth is nice to see
(but a 26yo military man during Napoleanic Wars having a very naive view of his first infatuation is not very believable? If he was 19yo he wouldn't be as annoying in the first half as you'd forgive him more easily imo).
I only wish that there was a sequel (or that the book was longer) where the two main characters have a open discussion about their feelings and a true coming together. The last page or two,
where the heroine still have doubts/still is insecure is a bit too bittersweet for a romance
