Does anyone have any recommendations for books that are similar to Prep? I know it was marketed as something similar to Gossip Girl. I’m really craving more academia / American boarding school vibes. Like My Dark Vanessa without the pedophile teacher

Bought that ages ago on the basis of it being a NYC book.. i really need to get a lid on books i bought years ago and haven't read. Cos theyre on my Kindle I don't notice
I've been in a few other the years - a LGBT one (i'm straight but was just trying to get out more and meet ppl in London., (this was ok and had a good mix of books but it kept moving venues and eventually died out)Book groups are in my experience usually run by bossy or smug women who have no taste in books and look down on the books you like to read.
I'll probably get shot down in flames by Tattlers who love their groups, but it is my experience.
a good one in the evening at my local library for about 10 or 15 yrs . After - mostly myself and 2 regulars with a lot of coming and going - that one died due to Covid. it took our library yrs to open in the evenings again (ie only just now) and in that time i think one of the other regs had moved to take care of her parents,
Joined the lunchtime one at the library which was going before Covid but was always known as the ladies who lunch by reputation. The librarian would tell us they were fussy about their books and would moan if the book had " language "in etc.I went for a while until i got a job but they would always moan and never liked the book whatever it was.
the secret history is my immediate recommendation for this - very dark academia, though with less romance than prep!
the art of fielding by chad harbach comes to mind too. it’s more about boys and baseball but still very academic and preppy (though does involve a student-teacher relationship). i also liked special topics in calamity physics by marisha pessel when i read it a few years back. real life by brandon taylor also might apply, but again with boys and a deep discussion of self-esteem issues.
(oh and i am charlotte simmons by tom wolfe maybe? i read it a LONG while ago but i remember it having prep vibes).

Just finished Lindsay Kelk The Christmas Wish which i got in the works 3 for £6 deal. It was hilarious, definitely her funniest book so far.

I feel like I want to her to revisit Sally. She deserved better than that to be her ending.
not me i dont see the point. I don't see the need for anyone to replace tech unless its broken or totally obsolete - in the interests o sustainability. Not knocking folks you do you , thats just my feelings on the matter and i can't blame people wanting an upgrade from 6th gen for example. Mines 10th and suits me fine.. i dont read a lot of manga or graphic novels etc and can;t see what having colours would bring in benefits for me.. It's a case of minor additions to make you feel like you are missing out if you dont get the new one that add basically nothing.@HoGi Are you being paid by Amazon here? Like I just don't get the Scribe. I'm not in Uni anymore and even when I was studying lit I didnt write in the actual books themselves. my 10th Gen paperwhite probably have a ton of features I never use including some i don't know about. I have never used the Wiki or notes or highlights etc..
I'm not bothered about the colour kindle as I actually don't care about book covers the main thing that I find can be better about physical books is being able to easily go back to different bits. Like when I didn't finish The Romanovs as on kindle I couldn't easily flip back to the family tree and started getting really confused with the different names. Or like once I bought a recipe book on kindle, never again

It was definitely one of favourite books back then, but I've never re-read it. Probably should! I wonder how I will read it differently now I'm in my 30s.Oh I hope you like it ! It made me feel a lot of feelings, sometimes very conflicting feelings, and made me reflects a lot. Honestly, I wished I read it like 10+ years ago when I was still in high school.
@LaBlonde recommended American Wife too! So obviously I have to read it now but none of the public libraries here have Sittenfeld's books for some reason. Might have to break the ban on buying new books on this one: two tattlers bookworm recommended it so clearly it's an emergency
Does World of Books ship to France? They're often a great source for affordable second hand books!
