Finished the Lynda La Plante autobiography. Would have been a good present for an older person who remembers the seventies onwards but I've bought my presents now.
I can just imagine them saying ooh I always thought she was a witch, he was up himself, etc Plus a giggle at the attention seeking and the sulking over the "he's got more lines than me!"
I don't often want to reread an autobiography, but I can imagine rereading this one down the line and I'd probably have forgotten a lot of it by then.
A definite must-read if you frequent the Secret Celebrity forum.

I'm 10% into Trust by Hernan Diaz and, so far, it's pretty good and intriguing (there is no much plot, besides following two weird rich/fancy people in the 1900-1910's)

OCTOBER ROUNDUP
A mixed bag this month. I read a lot of horror for spooky season and results varied. I'd also been reading too many cosy murder mysteries so made a conscious choice to try and read a few more 'literary' things.
BOOKS READ: 18
FAVOURITE BOOK OF THE MONTH: Everyone On This Train Is A Suspect, which is a cosy murder mystery, oops. Second place goes to The Last Murder At The End Of The World, which is a...sci-fi murder mystery.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Mister Magic. I don't know if anyone here was ever a creepypasta or nosleep reader, but this basically sounded like a premise from one of those. However, it went nowhere and was really boring and not scary at all. Hide, by the same author, was really good.
SPOOKIEST SPOOK: From Below by Darcy Coates. Combine my severe thalassophobia with psychological haunting, unsolved mysteries and a Titanic-esque ship? GIMME!

I’m halfway through The Safekeep and The Well-Gardened Mind, so hopefully I’ll get a better number in November. However I’m 8 books over on my reading challenge so no pressure on myself now. Just reading for enjoyment!

I love it for academic books and studying but I don’t think I’d ever read a novel book that I didn’t want to study, a book that I just wanted to enjoy it.
That said, if I had the money I’d probably buy the new version.
But, if it’s for reading novels, I’d never use it for that.
That’s useful to know thanks. It would just be for reading a novel rather than academics/ study purposes.

ooo i loved trust! i read it described as a puzzle box of a book and it definitely is - mainly a beautifully written reveal to something other than it pretends to me, and very cleverly done. one of the few pulitizer prizes i’ve really liked!
