Just finished Love Story by Lindsey Kelly after seeing it recommended here. I enjoyed it although the final part felt super rushed to me. But it did help me get out of a reading slump so many thanks tattlers! ❤

I just finished 'The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches' - I'd been in a bit of a reading slump and this pulled me right out of it I adored it! It reminded me a bit of the house of the cerulean sea, another lovely one.
It’s so so good isn’t it?! I’ve just read it too and absolutely loved it! Very Cerulean Sea which I also loved ❤❤

they’re similar in that they’re both loose little women retellings (which is probably why they get linked together). i enjoyed hello beautiful more than blue sisters, but liked them both very much. blue sisters is just let down by a weak ending imo.
I've persevered! I think they've different enough that I'm not confused.

My fellow kindle fans, this seems like a question you guys could help me with. I'm looking to get my dad a kindle for his birthday, he wants to be able to read in the dark without waking his partner up so my first thought was the Paperwhite, as that's what I have and I know this would tick the box. I don't think he's bothered about having the front covers in colour for instance, just ease of use, long battery life, adjustable backlight. Is the Paperwhite the best option? They are quite expensive (Amazon currently showing £159). Is there anything else with a backlight which would work which is a little less expensive, that anyone would recommend? He won't want to go down a tablet type route, I think a Kindle is the best product as he uses amazon for lots of his books so wouldn't be too difficult for him to get to grips with. Thanks!

I have a basic Kindle and that has a backlight, think around 80 quid but not sure. I've had mine 3 years and it's been fine.

Kindles have dark modes too, so the screen is mostly black with white text, which should be perfect if really wanting to reduce light. But even white page with a backlight should be suitable. A tablet will just light up the room. I use the white page/ black text and turn the brightness down and it doesn't bother my husband.

Oh God!!!😲😬😳😏
I've surpassed my record. I've now got 14 books in transit to my new library! They're going to think I'm a nutter! Don't know if I even dare show my face!! 😬
And yet I've been waiting for another book for over a year..... 🙄
It's like juggling babies 😏

I haven't been around for a while, managed to land myself in bed for weeks. Went on a John Grisham kick, no-one writes a thriller quite like him.

I am approaching two years of working on my tbr and not purchasing a book. Which quite possibly suggests my tbr was wildly out of control! I have around 25 physical books to go. Then I need to work on the Kindle. I have gone through and deleted all the bloatware books. Amazon First Reads I got for the sake of it and so on. I have around 60 books there. I have received new books as presents and have used any book tokens I have been gifted. But I'm not counting those.

Buying books has fallen off my radar entirely.

Until... Waterstones just emailed me this :

We all know I am a huge Murakami fan. This special edition is available for preorder. Those spotted edges 😍 It is released on the 19th. My birthday is 10 days later. I can drop hard hints about it but I only want the hardback if it has spotty edges, otherwise I will wait for the paperback. I even put this book in my basket. The temptation is real.

Great to see you on the thread and hope you’re feeling better.

I’m torn between envy and inspiration ref your TBR progress and desire to buy myself just one more.. cold turkey doesn’t seem to work so I’m aiming for buy less than I read in a month so eventually I’ll get through my TBR.

You should definitely get the Murakami though! It’s gorgeous! It’s on my Christmas list so hopefully it’s been pre-ordered.

I hope you’re feeling better! It sounds like you deserve a treat. I’d argue that isn’t simply a book, it’s ✨decor✨

Started The Saint of Lost Things, Tish Delaney. It’s not grabbing me yet. I hope it picks up. I bought it because I loved Before My Actual Heart Breaks

Hahaha this is brilliant.
I always feel a slight sense of shame when I go to pick up another book from the library I reserved and they know I have another 5 at home 😂
---
I went into a charity shop today and picked up The Garnett Girls, The Club, and a Francophile biography called Almost French (my secret reading pleasure is about British / Americans resettling in France a la A Year in Provence, My Good Life in France etc)
All to joint my terribly large TBR pile 🤣

I've just finished watching Sweetpea and really enjoyed it, realised I have the book on my shelf so I started it last night. It's 1 of 5! I'm enjoying it so far and trying to stop myself ordering the rest

I love Lindsey Kell though I struggled through I heart New York. Try Alexandra Potter Be Careful What you Wish For or Who's That Girl

I just finished Maurice and Maralyn, which is a true story taken from a couple who were shipwrecked in the middle of the Pacific (kind of appropriate that a sperm whale caused their shipwreck after I spent most of the last year building up a loathing towards them courtesy of Moby fool)

And I'm trying to read Casey McQuiston's The Pairing before my library loan runs out, but it's not really appealing at the moment. Has anyone read it; is it worth me persevering? I usually love McQuiston.

Omg, book amnesia is the worst. So I’ve had Exit by Belinda Bauer on my wishlist for ages. Finally, it goes down to 99p so I buy it. Start reading it this evening, have a sense of deja vu…

1. Check Goodreads - nope
2. Check an old Insta book highlight I had - nope
3. Check through BorrowBox history… BINGO

Apparently it was returned there on 19th August 2022. So now I’m wondering if I listened to the full thing, whether it was returned before I had chance to etc.

So 4. Search Tattle to see if I’ve mentioned reading it. Found the following… FML.
