Would you be comfortable to take a picture of a colour cover and show us? Would love to see how it looks IRL! No problem if not

I haven't been around for a while, managed to land myself in bed for weeks. Went on a John Grisham kick, no-one writes a thriller quite like him.

I am approaching two years of working on my tbr and not purchasing a book. Which quite possibly suggests my tbr was wildly out of control! I have around 25 physical books to go. Then I need to work on the Kindle. I have gone through and deleted all the bloatware books. Amazon First Reads I got for the sake of it and so on. I have around 60 books there. I have received new books as presents and have used any book tokens I have been gifted. But I'm not counting those.

Buying books has fallen off my radar entirely.

Until... Waterstones just emailed me this :

We all know I am a huge Murakami fan. This special edition is available for preorder. Those spotted edges 😍 It is released on the 19th. My birthday is 10 days later. I can drop hard hints about it but I only want the hardback if it has spotty edges, otherwise I will wait for the paperback. I even put this book in my basket. The temptation is real.

Hello 👋 I’ve been in a bit of a rut recently so haven’t been keeping up on here, I’m just about to catch up on recent posts (and no doubt spend a small fortune in the process 😅…)

I think I got myself in a rut by trying to read books outside of my preferred genres. For example I’ve read a few of the TikTok famous romance type novels. I love that everyone has different preferred book types but honestly I’ve accepted romance and cutesy stuff just is not for me. I find myself wishing there would be a murder to liven things up 😭

And so I’m reverting back to type and sticking to murdery/detectivey/crimey books for a while to get myself back into reading more regularly 🥰

I read a lot just before sleeping mainly and in recent months I’ve found myself thinking nah I’ll just go to bed, which isn’t like me

but I have to finish off my last cutesy one because I absolutely hate DNF’ing 😂

Lego have this really cute bookshelf set but it's only available as an add on gift if you spend £120 or more on other lego! 😭 Just thought I'd let anyone know if they're planning on buying any lego for people for Christmas!

Omg, book amnesia is the worst. So I’ve had Exit by Belinda Bauer on my wishlist for ages. Finally, it goes down to 99p so I buy it. Start reading it this evening, have a sense of deja vu…

1. Check Goodreads - nope
2. Check an old Insta book highlight I had - nope
3. Check through BorrowBox history… BINGO

Apparently it was returned there on 19th August 2022. So now I’m wondering if I listened to the full thing, whether it was returned before I had chance to etc.

So 4. Search Tattle to see if I’ve mentioned reading it. Found the following… FML.

I'm not supposed to be buying anymore books this year.....but I've just found the Chestnut Sping series in a charity shop for £1 each. Really good condition too apart from some bending in the spine.
Aah, but, what you are forgetting is the rule I've made about this situation and I think is a really good rule.

If you are buying books in a charity shop, it doesn't actually count as buying books because what you are actually doing is donating to a good cause and you just happen to be getting some books in exchange.

Also sorry to break it to everyone (and I am this age) 36 is almost middle age. 🙈
I refuse to accept it. I’m still that person that if someone referred to me as “the lady”, i.e “let that lady come past” I’d be looking around, wondering where the lady was.

Hit my 2024 reading goal of 50 books this morning, mainly thanks to a recent “fly and flop” holiday which means I’ve read more books already in October than I do in an average month! Not going to up it for the rest of the year it’s given me a bit of an end of term feeling - almost like I’ve done all the work I needed to do and the rest of the year is free choice to read what I want! 😂

Happy October, All!

I only read one book in September but it was an absolutel BELTER - Demon Copperhead.

I was just catching up on the thread and to the person who said A Little Life is their favourite book (same) and they loved Shuggie Bain (same) - if you haven't read Demon Copperhead you need to - you will love it!!!

I have Intermezzo next to me but I think I'm going to read something else first to delay the excitement of starting a new Rooney.

just because i finished my final october book today (faebound. i sadly do not recommend it. it took me what felt like 84 years to read), here are my october reads!

think again - jacqueline wilson ⭐⭐
in memoriam - alice winn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
protecting what’s mine - lucy score 😴
good material - dolly alderton ⭐⭐⭐⭐
hell bent - leigh bardugo ⭐⭐⭐⭐
my vampire plus-one - jenna levine ⭐⭐⭐
faebound - saara el-arifi ⭐⭐

everything i read this month paled in comparison to in memoriam though, which i am still thinking about.

My colour kindle arrived and I love it so much.

Doesn't seem that different from the signature which I adore, so I am very happy

These are my September reads. I’m still working on The God of The Woods but it won’t be done today, but it’s shaping up to be 5*!

There is absolutely zero failure involved when it comes to buying new books 🥰 I love books 📚 they're like a security blanket for me and I will never feel guilty for adding to my TBR. I did start the year hoping to read more of my older books and I'm slowly getting through them. I have bought lots of ebooks and paperbacks and don't think I'm finished yet.

Let's think of ourselves as squirrels storing up good reads for the long winter ahead 😀

I read quite a lot in September (after reading absolutely nothing in July and barely anything in August). Hopefully I am back in the reading stride. According to my good reads account I have read 37 books this year (target is 50).

I know Think Again is getting very mixed reviews, but I am so glad JW wrote it - and I’m especially glad she wrote it this year! I feel like I really needed it.
I have mentioned this before but I was a huge bookworm (especially as a kid) and then in December 2019 I lost my ability to focus on books following some trauma in my life. I can literally pinpoint the moment when I lost the ability to enjoy reading (which is pretty weird to think about so I try not to!). I’ve really had to almost ‘learn to read’ books again and I am so glad I did! This year has also been a weird year - full of strange trauma, mental health stuff, physical health stuff, and of course the usual ups and downs of a year! Books and reading have been a friend to me this year (even the ones I hated!) but it did feel quite special to have that to look forward to. Ellie felt like an old friend.

I wish we had more Nadine and Magda! They both had quite complex stories and we barely heard a thing about them! What was the point? I also didn’t understand why Mr Windsor changed his damn name!!! It CANT have been a continuity error - surely the editor would have picked that up immediately?

My October wrap-up

Did I read the October book club pick? No
Did I achieve my aim of reading a physical book? No
Did I achieve my aim of reading more Kindle books? Also no! 🤣

Favourite: RBC ❤

I read one book in September which was The Will of the Many so thanks to whoever recommended it!! Really good and looking forward to the next one being published even though it did take me a whole month to read 🤣 partly because I felt it was a very slow burn at the start, I only properly got into it about 50% in but also was reading a non fiction book at the same time and wasn't prioritising reading at all.

Listened to two books also
