The book in question❓ A New Home In The Dales by Betty Firth. It seems the author's inspiration was the real life setting up of The Dalesman magazine in Yorkshire in World War 2.
Naturally I've broken my rule of no more books ordered from the library, to order the next one in the series............what????!!!!! 😏🙄🤭📚

I swear you and me must have similar tastes in books Chocolategoggler because I have the whole series on my bookshelf. I haven't read them yet but are planning too in the coming months. In fact I have many sagas that I need to read but at the moment I am prioritising other books first.

The author has only just published the second in the series this year!!! How can you have the whole series? 😲

ETA yes we do seem to have similar tastes.....😁

The second in the series which is called War Comes to the Dales came out in October last year whilst the third book in the series A Wartime Christmas in the Dales came out last Thursday and is currently in the Works.

We definitely have similar tastes as I love reading Wartime sagas but tbf my mum got me into them as she has been reading books set in World War 2 for years.

Been seriously struggling with depression recently so reading has definitely taken a bit of a hit - I just stopped posting here because it was just all too much. I am back though as I had a very cool delivery this morning - I’ve ordered the first four ‘girls in…’ books by Jacqueline Wilson to prep for Think Again coming out this week. I’m even going to an author talk!

I have been reading the first one and I can almost feel like I am 11 years old and it’s 1999 again.

I re-read the Girls series too and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it over 20 years on. Really looking forward to Think Again coming out!

hello beautiful = five star emotional knockout i can’t believe i’ve let it sit on my shelf for so long when i could have been letting it quietly devastate me instead. goodness.

(my only comment is that i wish the twins had been given a pov. for a book so centered on sisters they very much felt like a supporting cast but also think that was maybe the point).

I follow the 52book subreddit so I set my goal to 52 this year and I hit it today 🎉

Not going to officially extend it I think but I'd like to try for 75. If I make it it'll be the most I've read since lockdown!

Bought some kindle books to have on my phone, just cheap, crap, smutty rit and now I'm getting angry for the most ridiculous extreme over the top portrayal of anxiety/self-esteem issues and general bull I've ever read. Added to just ridiculous levels of stress and this character is just always so busy and tired and self hating.

If you have this much anxiety you don't bag hot indie band member in the stockroom of the coffee shop you work in.

Just hate when these traits are portrayed in such a caricature/exaggerated way. And I'm sure by the end there is going to be so much mental trauma and mental health issues resolved.

wait…. is this about when london snow falls?! because i couldn’t get on with that either at all (for all the reasons you describe). it was such an OTT and unbelievable description of anxiety. (if not, there are two very similar books that do it equally badly 🤣)

It sounded so cute. And it's just pissing me off.

It's actually pissed me off so much I've given up reading it to listen to Talia Mar screeching her way through her support act set before seeing The Vamps right now. duck she is painful to listen to live.

Currently reading The Recipe For Happiness by Jane Lovering.
Yet another anonymous looking book with a great story between the covers.
The dedication by Jessica Redland says it all - " Beautifully written and both heartbreaking and heartwarming".
