I just did the "which of the seven sisters are you?" quiz I got Maia. I also did the "which fictional detective are you?" quiz and got DCI Vera Stanhope lol.

Persuasion is the next classic I should read and my next holiday read should be Atlas - the story of Pa Salt - which I've already read

I just took two little women quizzes and I'm Amy on both 🫣 (but I always liked her ending up with Laurie and her trip through Europe, and the fact that she called her daughter Bess)

Also on targets, I've met my goodreads target (I set it at 75 books which is achievable for me, and I don't usually extend it), but I recently extended my storygraph pages target and I'm stressed even though I'm still ahead of it at the moment.

honestly i love amy (i’m probably a beth/amy mix to be honest) and justice for her i was so mad that she married laurie when i read the books and watched the christian bale version as a teen, but i reread them over lockdown and watched the new movie and it just makes so much more sense! laurie and jo would have been a terrible match (or jo anyone would have been because LMA didn’t even want her married off).

(speaking of though: baby christian bale as laurie is one of my favourite book to film castings ever. he’s so cute in that film)

Also I mentioned before that I'm buddy-reading Alcott with a friend of mine this year, and I loved how she ended An Old-Fashioned Girl. She went down fighting!:

Hmmm this LW chat is making me wonder if I should try a reread of it too. As someone who studied American lit at uni it came up on pretty much every module I did and over the years and was analysed to death, so I have a bit of a love hate relationship with it!

I did really enjoy the Greta Gerwig film version though so maybe I’ve got enough distance from the uni days now to give it another go!

I was browsing the Waterstones website deciding which edition to get for my LW re-read.. priorities. There’s three different Penguin hardback versions I’m tempted by (Clothbound, Puffin and another with a nice leaf design cover) but I do like aPenguin English Library floppy paperback!

Depends what goes with the rest of your collection! I always feel nervous actually reading the clothbound books (but I do it anyway). I love the Puffin cover!

My goal was 125 (read 122 last year so thought that should be doable for sure) but I haven't read as much this year so I went down to 115 and now to 100 because seeing '10 books behind' was very demotivating, so I am aiming for a 100 now and everything more than that will be a nice bonus. I do love having a goal but once it becomes a chore it is no longer fun.

Agree. I thought about upping my goal for next year as I think I'm definitely going over it this year but then thought I don't want to be reading to meet a target, it stops being enjoyable then!

I was encouraged by the rave reviews of Tom Lake to read it. I’m on Ch8 and am wondering if it kicks up a gear or stays with the same easy going pace. Atm it’s not grabbing me, but truthfully it maybe because it’s not the right book for how I’m feeling. Should I continue?

i adored it but the pace does not change at all (it’s very true to anne patchett’s style). if you’re not feeling it now, there isn’t really a big tone switch to come.
