I finished Strange Sally Diamond this afternoon so just been having a quick search to find other people’s thoughts on it. Glad I’m not the only one who had a “I loved it until I didn’t” sort of feeling!

Spoiler: Strange Sally Diamond ending

I have no problem with books that don’t have a neatly wrapped up happy ending, but I just felt so disappointed with how Sally was left by the author. After coming through such trauma and making something of herself, to see her go back so much was frustrating. Maybe more realistic but I don’t think the rest of the book was gritty or real enough to justify that as an excuse for the end.

I thought the ending was really well done, but I absolutely get why most don’t like it. My heart broke for her, I absolutely loved this book

I’ve just finished Weyward wow. Absolute mixture of emotions. It was slow and at times I thought is this going anywhere but it was beautifully written, raw, uncomfortable at times and uplifting in others

Just finished reading "I Hope This Finds You Well" - a humorous story about a young lady's experience with office life and co-workers. It was a fast read and enjoyable.

Has anyone been checking out the NY Times Best Books of the 21st Century list? They’ve currently got numbers 100-41 listed with more being added throughout this week. Hoping it doesn’t go behind a paywall before it’s done, at the moment is visible with a free sign in!

So far I’ve only read 7 off the list. Lots of unfamiliar books (to me anyway!) at the moment so intrigued to see what else coming.

I started following this yesterday. So far I’m up to 6 read and 8 want to read. Definitely could have been more TBR additions but tried to keep my list selective!

I've got to the "book pharmacy" bit. I never realised you can be prescribed a book. I've never thought of asking in a bookshop. Probably fearing I would be marked down as a loony, so I'd go on an endless quest for "the book".
No one I know understands why I love books so much, so you are the people I can talk to about it as you understand.

That was the bit I loved best the book recommendations, I looked the ones I didn't know up as I went along then realised there's a summary of them at the end so I could have just done it all in one go!

I loved Weyward by the end, agree it took a while to get into it but it was great!

I appreciate it’s potentially a dangerous list to be sharing given our collective lack of will power when it comes to increasing TBR piles! Well done for being selective!

@cill2019 thats exactly how I felt about Weyward. It moved me so much and made me feel so powerful as a woman.

I know Id said the other day about having The Shards and Romantic Comedy from the library. I noticed The Shards is free if you have an audible subscription atm so Ive started listening to it. The actual paperback has tiny font and it was just putting me off. Ive started it and its hooked me right away. Its a very strange premise I wont lie. Bret Elis is essentially the main character but its a work of fiction but is written like a memoir.

I just finished listening to Broken Light by Joanne Harris (narrated by Imogen Stubbs). Not going to lie, I stayed with it for the narration, but the book was a bit depressing. A good idea in principle but very repetitive and [ending spoiler]: the protagonist who goes through a lot of self discovery and reawakening dies in the end so now I'm feeling a bit sad because it feels like I wasted 12 hours of my life listening to it because I thought there was going to be a good ending that would be worth it . Good job I was multitasking and was listening to it at work.
I've not read Joanne Harris before but I was left feeling a bit 'meh'. I tried it because it was on borrowbox and I like the narrator's voice from previous books / theatre.

Back to my cozy crime, dystopian, and fantasy books I go, for a bit. Hopefully this month I will get around to Fourth Wing, ACOWAR, The Suspect, and Vox.

I second your view about Weyward, I think it was March that I read it and I still think about it, even though it was a slow start. It lives rent-free in my mind.

Not read many on the current list to 41, but can confirm Olive Kitteridge and Small Things Like These are brilliant. A number of them are already on my TBR pile, and finding more to add!

Finally read We Could Heroes and it is gloriously gay and unashamedly accepting. It was a romcom that felt so much more than just a romcom.

I finished his and hers tonight (I only posted earlier but I started it a few days ago). It was good! Enjoyed it! Slow start but once it got into it I could not put it down!

ooo thank you for sharing this! 12 for me (one of which i HATED and was surprised to see here ) - but so many really interesting books that i’ve never heard of, and some i have heard of but am scared to read. immediately bookmarked!

currently around halfway through blue sisters and heading for a solid five star emotional knockout.
