The end of June/early July has been a slow reading period for me. I was on holiday and read two meh Annabel Monaghan books. I don't think I will read her again but they sort of did the job for a pool read. Then read some very trashy rote KU romances and have forgotten absolutely everything about them.

I need to turn back to my TBR and pick up something with some depth and bite.

it really bugs me too. a list of tropes is not a plot. it makes me annoyed to see the genre sorta going that way, given that it’s one of my favourites when done well. but it’s becoming very lazily done.

all i can say about my dark romeo is that i would like to apologise to my parents, my nursery school teachers, my childhood librarian, who all spent time helping me love books, and i have chosen to use those skills reading this. i didn’t just put it in my charity shop bag, i launched it from a great height 🫠

Been a very slow reading period.

Finished Green Dot- not sure how I feel about it. Was kind of funny, but couldnt warm to any of the characters and was a bit predictable.

Although 20 something old me would have LOVED this and the whole angst and forbidden love thing, but nearing my 40’s- it was all frustrating

I loved Green Dot. I think I gave it 4 stars. I could see why people would find the characters annoying. The main character (can't remember her name) reminded me of people I know and don't hate.

I'm currently reading Sicilian Inheritance by Jo Piazza. I'm about 1/4 of the way through. So far it seems good. I'm hoping to get through a good chunk of it this afternoon. It has a dual timeline and I feel like the one set in the past may get boring even though that should be the exciting one

Ive tried reading The Floating Hotel and Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries and neither have grabbed me I think I’m just not in the right mind frame for either really
I’ll return both to the library and hope something on my shelf will get me back into reading

I loved Green Dot. I think I gave it 4 stars. I could see why people would find the characters annoying. The main character (can't remember her name) reminded me of people I know and don't hate.

Yeh im stuck between 3 or 4 star.

I wanted to understand the character more, we got a hint of childhood trauma thanks to her mum, but it didnt really go into depth. I think that would have helped build the main character a bit more

I've had a migraine on and off for the past week so reading has slowed. Which is annoying as I have two library books due back in a few days.

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez I'm about a third of the way through. It's good but nothing incredible, my least fave in the series so far. (Not sure if it's officially a series but it does have some returning characters).

I also have Jaded by Ella Lee which I haven't started yet and not sure that I will get to it in time.

I read The Trial by Rob Rinder and loved it. Preordered The Suspect straight away - have started reading and think it’s just as good as the first so far. Really enjoyable read and love the characters!

I really rather enjoyed it as well. Easy enough to read, but just enough twists and turns to keep your attention and intrigued.

I got totally engrossed in Richard and Judy Our Best Bits. I was working when they were on This Morning, so only watched if I was on leave from work.
It got to The Richard and Judy Book Club and I wondered if anyone on here follows this as it seems it's still going.

Yes I listen to their book club podcast, it's really interesting and has recommended some books I wouldn't have otherwise tried! It's coming back this month, I think, as Claire Douglas shared that her new book has been chosen.

I completely missed the opening of a new thread!

I finished Caledonian Road yesterday - 4 stars. Really quite enjoyed it, it’s not my usual book genre either. Very relevant to today too.
Started In Ascension by Martin MacInnes today. Not sure if it’s going to be my thing but it gets great reviews.

I currently have a pile of library books waiting to be read and keep taking more out my sister has decided I have a problem. Trying to say to myself that when I finish this pile I will not take anymore library books out until I’ve finished the huge pile of books I keep buying .

I am feeling like I need to read The Passengers as everyone here seems to rave about it! I’ve never read any John Marr.

I just finished the family experiment (John marr), I really enjoyed it, was pretty hooked and read it very quickly (for me). I thought it was a bit a bit unrealistic and silly in places but I would read more of his. I think with tv/film don’t mind things being ‘unrealistic’ maybe as you ‘see’ it but sometimes it puts be off in books.

I have just started promising young women, as I enjoyed the Rachel incident.
