I noticed Moon Road from my Amazon wishlist is 99p today so got that too. It sounds like something lots of people on this thread would like. Giving Anne Tyler vibes maybe?

Long Island Compromise - Taffy Brodesser-Akner. I absolutely loved Fleishman is in Trouble. I thought it was such a well done social observation of parenthood

Has anyone read any of these?

I am very impatiently waiting for Same As It Ever Was from the library! I have high hopes that it will be a 5* fave so I hope it doesn't blow up in my face

This book felt so unnecessary I have no idea why she even wrote it or how it got the green light from her publishers. I do really like her and have read all of her others but this one was awful. Like you say, barely any plot and they seemed so incompatible? When at the end it was like "lets get married!" after that huge fight at the wedding when she thought he was breaking up with her, and all of their miscommunication, I was like wtf??

I did like the first one in the series though, Mad About You I think it was called?

right?! i legit skipped around 100 pages in the middle and when i came back - literally nothing had progressed. and like you say that fight at the wedding where he absolutely laid out why they couldn’t work but she was like but i want to marry you and then it was suddenly all resolved?! like, what?

however now reading tom lake which is like a lovely glass of cold lemonade after that. i already adore it!

I've read Real Americans. It wasn't really what I expected it to be as there is a sci fi-ish element to it and I would typically avoid any books like that. However it was 4 stars for me. I liked the writing. Some of the characters' stories dragged on, but it was still enjoyable.

Oh damn it. I usually avoid that sort of stuff too. The blurb didnt mention anything like that.

Tom Lake was one of my favourites last year and imagine it's even more special after reading that Mhairi one haha

Inhaled Jill Mansell's latest yesterday - The Wedding of the Year. I can imagine watching this farce on a TV. I would be laughing at the scumbag running down the street trying to outrun his wife - iykyk She also threw in a Romeo and Juliet scenario amongst other things.
I was expecting schmaltz but got the hilarious opposite. Would be good on screen.

Oh I used to love Jill Mansell books then I started reading different Authors and forgot about her.

Just finished The Break by Marian Keyes, such a big book for what the story was about. 7/10.

I’ve read wild love this was one of my most anticipated reads of the year. I liked it! I do like anything Elsie silver writes. But I did find it took me longer than normal to get into

Fab haul. I cannot wait to get Same As It Ever Was. And not heard of Moon Road you mentioned in another post, so adding that to my list.

I bought The 5am Club last night on a whim and duck me, what a load of absolute rit. I thought I was getting a bog standard self help book but it was written like a novel but with tips thrown in. I skimmed it thinking the parable would end after the first couple of chapters but no, the whole thing is like that. Execrable. Got a refund. I don't know what I was thinking anyway, there's no magic involved in waking up at the same time every day.

I super inhaled the latest Santa Montefiore - Shadows in the Moonlight - the first novel of a planned trilogy.
Now I have to impatiently wait for her to write and publish the next one in the series

I finished The Women by Kristin Hannah and really enjoyed it, I think it would make a great TV adaptation.

I think it could be a 5* book for me but might downgrade purely because of her love life

I just found it ridiculous that every man she met fell in love with her. And the 2 men she loved in Vietnam, both assumed dead, both came back into her life/SPOILER]

TOTALLY agree!! I thought the book was overall incredible but those two things you mentioned in your spoiler just felt so lazy.

Now I have to impatiently wait for her to write and publish the next one in the series

Interesting, I like Santa Montefiore so will check this one out but maybe in a bit so I don't have to wait for the next one if I end up liking it

I actually heard about it from a university tutor that I respected. I no longer respect him.

As soon as the author started yapping like a motivational speaker (motivational speakers are pyramid schemes, if you're so successful why are you spending your time convincing other people to be "great") I knew I had ducked up.

I’m glad to see the Goodreads rating is dropping to reflect the meh. It really doesn’t deserve the hype!
I’d still watch the adaption though, fully expect (hope?!) it will be better than the book.
