I’m really struggling through Ministry of Time, I feel like nothing has happened for the last 50 pages 🥱

i really disliked it. it has the most irritating lead character ever - she feels no curiosity about anything, doesn’t express an opinion on anything. just meh. it’s such a clever and interesting idea too.

i fully checked out when there’s a big violent confrontation scene and the lead character turns around and literally runs away home 🫠

I’m at the bit where she mopes around the house in an over sized tee for what feels like 74 weeks.
🥱🥱🥱 I need to pick up something else to read alongside this before I get stuck in a slump.

i felt like all she did was mope just a great concept just ruined by clunky writing and an insipid lead character. i got the hardback and the first three pages are just full of endorsements from other authors… who i assume did not read it.

(i loved the other two travellers though - the solider whose name i’ve forgotten and margaret. would have read a book about them)

Glad you said that about the writing - one think ruining it for me is having to re-read the odd bit because I’ve got no idea what I just read. Could also be a touch of me switching off too!
I noticed the volume of endorsements too - so over the top. I could be believe they read the first chapter or 50 pages and thought they might like it (based on my own reading experience).

I loved this! Some of the plot points are absolutely off the wall (borderline unbelievable, imo) but it’s so, so good

I asked for help upthread as my Borrowbox wouldn't download my audio book.
I was at someone's house and got my phone out to ask for help, and pressed download to show it wasn't working...... and the damn thing downloaded it straight away! no problem, making me look a right idiot.
It now works in my house. I don't understand though, why it preferred their wi-fi to mine ...

Real Americans- yes! I picked it up at the library without really knowing much about it at all. I'm pretty close minded when it comes to sci fi or supernatural etc elements in books. I probably shouldn't be, but I am. It didn't really detract from the book for me. It just took me by surprise.

I finally gave ACOTAR a go and …

Yeah I get the hype. Only just coming to the end of book one but will likely read the rest soon after was in a bit of a slump after Demon Copperhead (my fave of the year so far by far)

But as I tell everyone- be aware of the book hangover after you finish it all

Had a skim through another tutor recommendation this afternoon: The Chimp Paradox. I don’t think I’m a self help kind of girlie. I can’t take them seriously.

I bought another book today took a trip to my favourite coffee shop come bookshop.. I can never resist a purchase from their small but very well edited selection of books.. I went for This Family today. But was tempted by Big Swiss and Common Decency which were also on the shelf!

Call me cynical but I’m currently watching celeb “novelist” Carol Kirkwood plug her new book on The One Show and I don’t believe for one minute she’s written a single word of it. She was so scripted in how she described everything it just felt very fake. I’m sure she’s a great weather forecaster but a writer? Not so much!

I'm almost at the end of This Family. I've really enjoyed it.
