My library charges a 20p per book, per day fine, and also charges 70p per reservation which puts me off a bit.

I worry that soon a lot of authors will run prompts through AI for dialogue and then just do some edits and publish in order to meet deadlines. I want to read books that have been lovingly crafted, like with JKR's Strike series.i had to bailsorry mhairi, i like you and all but the dialogue in this book reads like you ran it through an ai generator. also there’s almost no plot to speak of, just a lot of characters making observations about things. genuinely amazed by how high its goodreads rating is.

I didn't know libraries charge to reserve! I know they used to have late fees. I only listen to audiobooks on borrowbox though so I suppose the app doesn't charge. But that's a shame if they start charging to reserve.
to be honest, this one was just badly written. expositional dialogue is my absolute writing pet hate and this book was full of it - it’s hard to do without making it sound clunky and just isn’t how people really talk to each other. it comes across as robotic, which is why i mentioned AI.
i don’t doubt that AI will start being used more, especially in the romance genre, but i equally think those “authors” would get dragged pretty quickly for it, no matter how advanced it gets.
Mine charges £1 per reservation but I think well that's the same as a kindle deal book so it does t bother me. Plus the wait times aren't too bad even for new releases, I think they must buy in a good few copies of each book.
I wasn’t blown away by Weyward either. I felt there was just something missing that I couldnt put my finger on!welcome! i really liked big swiss too - it was just delightfully weird (and like you say, really dark in places). i’m intrigued to watch the film if/when it gets made, jodie comer has bought the rights!
all this recent weyward talk makes it think i should reread it as it was a solid three stars for me but i was also in a bad mood when i read it
I haven't started this yet but I've seen everywhere that the first 100 pages or so are a massive info dump and then it improves after that.I've just started House of Earth and Blood. I feel like I'm being bombarded by names, places and situations and I can't remember who everyone is and what sort of creature they are. Very tempted to DNF already.I'd just finished Weyward before which was very easy to read, so maybe that house clouded my judgement?
same. i liked the middle story strand but i just thought that, beyond that, she really just came on too strong with the theme (or really didn’t think that the reader would get what she meant so tried to make it as obvious as possible) and the writing was a little clunky in places. it was fine, but i couldn’t quite put my finger on what was missing either!

and others confirmed it was similar for them till like 20% in at least. It did get better, but I haven't picked up the next book yet tbh. Just took me so long to finish the first one I wasn't ready for the second one, not sure if it's worth it 
I am in a huge slump at the moment. I haven’t really enjoyed my most recent ‘light’/romance type reads (e.g., I thought my brain was melting when I read Beach Read by EmHen) but I don’t have the headspace to read anything heavier. I also don’t want to re-read anything I’ve loved in the past. So I just don’t want to read at all and spend my life doom scrolling on my phone. But literally nothing is capturing my imagination.

the first books in a series are always a lot of world setting.
I’ll be honest though, i didnt enjoy the third book but had to read it because of how SJM set everything up
I’ve not had a chance to read much recently as I’ve been so busy and had a friend staying but it’s morning here and I’m currently in bed with my kindle, a coffee and my dog curled up next to me - it’s complete bliss

I just found it ridiculous that every man she met fell in love with her. And the 2 men she loved in Vietnam, both assumed dead, both came back into her life/SPOILER]
This book felt so unnecessary I have no idea why she even wrote it or how it got the green light from her publishers.i had to bail
I do really like her and have read all of her others but this one was awful. Like you say, barely any plot and they seemed so incompatible? When at the end it was like "lets get married!" after that huge fight at the wedding when she thought he was breaking up with her, and all of their miscommunication, I was like wtf?? 
I did like the first one in the series though, Mad About You I think it was called?

Planned to read Same asap, especially because I got it early but have ended up prioritising a couple from the Waterstones Debut Prize.
