I couldn't get into it either. I've struggled with a few of his books.Has anyone read Underland by Robert Mcfarlane? Someone gifted it to me and all of the reviews say it's amazing, but I feel bad because I'm finding it so boring! The front cover is gorgeous though so at least it looks good on my shelf
I thought the Thursday Murder Club was nothing special. I don't get the hype. Osman's publishers must have spent quite a bit of money for promotion. Lots of connections with the big bookshops I think.
huge thank you to whoever recommended it!I only heard the Radio 4 serialisation and couldn't get into it at all. A bit twee. But I find him deeply irritating anyway so was possibly prejudiced from the start.
I find it all very self-congratulatory when someone relatively famous writes in their own name and then acts as though the book sells well due to their talent. If they had faith in their talent, they'd want to publish under a pseudonym. Rather, it's all about making lots and lots of money for everyone involved. The Thursday Murder Club read to me as though it were more of a clumsy tv show pitch than a novel (if it hasn't been opted for a "quirky-modern-Marple" adaptation already, I'm sure it will be soon).
I think I read Stephen Spielberg has the film rights. I can't see it being a blockbuster myself - more a Midsummer Murders type affair.

all the young dudes!. But for fans of Beth O'leary (author of the flatshare and the switch) her newest book The Roadtrip is 99p on kindle todaySame. It was different, an easy read and not my usual type of book either but I enjoyed it and it made me laugh. Also agree with other posts about it doing well because he is already well known/good marketing. If it had been an unknown author I don't think it would have done as well.I really loved Thursday murder club and it's not my usual sort of book at all! It made me laugh more than I thought it would and it was a bit fluffy but that just made it a cosy read for lack of a better word. It's not a literary masterpiece though
I did enjoy the audiobook tbf, but it was narrated by an actress so I can see how they are ready to make it into a tv show or film, it was a feel good book for me and whilst I didn’t know all that much about it, I throughly enjoyed it for what it was and I think that’s what some people get hung up on, they can only enjoy books if they’re critically acclaimed or are prize winners and there’s nothing wrong with enjoying utter trash or something simple
It’s so interesting how we like and dislike different things. I couldn’t stand Normal People and it’s one of the only books I’ve ever given up reading. I had zero interest in the characters or plot and just didn’t want to read on.
