I've recommended Unlawful Killings by Wendy Joseph KC a few times as I think it's an amazing book.

Really excited to see she has another book coming out next month, hopefully it's just as good. This will actually be a book I buy that's not 99p!

i just had a look! it’s a solid no from me to the ministry of time (great idea, poorly executed, all the negative goodreads reviews allegedly being removed makes me raise an eyebrow) but i own greta and valdin and haven’t read it yet!

Bump it up your TBR. It's honestly such a good book, true crime but each with a moral dilemma and presented in a different way to your typical 'this is the law, this is what happened'.

or at least very “involved” co-writers (the “co” being open for interpretation ) - i’m sure that’s how james patterson managed to maintain a ridiculous output for years.

that being said, and with the caveat that i’ve never read any of her stuff, if she’s naturally a fast writer and her books don’t take a lot of work (in the nicest possible way!) then maybe it is possible. especially if she works on multiples at once.

Managed to finish Penance by Eliza Clark last night. Someone spoke about it on here and I liked the idea of it. Think they gave it 3 stars, I would agree. Kept getting the girls confused and didn’t like the unreliable narrator, particularly when the book is presented as non-fiction fiction - if that makes sense. It seemed very slow, took me 8 days to read and it’s not that long a book.

I read it on holiday last month and gave it 3 stars! I then read Boy Parts and really didn’t like it BUT it made me appreciate that Penance is a much much better book. I didn’t really like the twist in Penance though - I genuinely felt it didn’t add anything to the story at all and the author threw it in to be edgy. It’s a book about a murder of a teenage girl, it’s edgy enough!

Yes, the twist in The Teacher was just ridiculous
To me they are like the Mcdonalds of books. A quick fast easy read.
And I love them

Of course - there are some indie Kindle Unlimited authors who have a huge output (and of course fanfic authors who definitely don't use ghost writers).

I also kind of love an author with a solid brand, and that sounds like what McFadden has. Sometimes you just need to know what you're getting with a book.

the way fanfic authors will drop like 125k of the greatest slow burn mutual pining ever and be like “lol wrote this on my lunch break!” will forever blow my mind

and same. i get the counterargument that it becomes formulaic but i can’t deny the branding. i feel people really come down on female authors for it too (says me, one of coho’s greatest haters ) i think people should read what they like and what works for them, and that extends to writers writing what they like and what works for them too. possible plagiarism aside though as i know that’s the other mcfadden critique!

I have just found out through one of the Facebook groups I am on it is her existing book, suicide med, renamed. She has withdrawn the existing one from sale (bar paperback copies already printed) as it is causing trouble with social media due to the name. It may also have a scene deleted? But yeh it is an existing book rereleased under a new name.
