A while back, I started reading My Lady Jane, which is an irreverent reimagining of Lady Jane Grey's life, which is obviously a choice. I didn't finish but just found out Amazon has adapted it.

I can't work out if the love interest is a part-time horse in the series as well as the book - anyone know?
never has a spoiler made me want to read a book more 🤣 i am FASCINATED by this.

Finished Conversations with Friends! Honestly not sure how to rate it, feels like I need to re-read it. At first, it felt like a lesser version of Normal People but it became it's own interesting thing. The last 50 pages felt rushed though, and made me hate both Melissa and (somewhat) Nick. The biblical references were meh. But Frances was relatable and Rooney's writing and cleverness were mind blowing.

Rooney needs to write a smut book. No plot, just beautifully written porn.

She also needs to tell me where to find hot talented marxist men irl because, between Connell and Nick, I've now impossible standards 🥵

Dying to know if they just cut it out of the tv series or if they're leaving it as a surprise for the audience.

I need to actually get back into the book, the tone is something you have to be in the right mood for, but it does contain gems like this:

Sorry, I loathe Sally Rooney's writing, cliche ridden drivel IMVHO.
Totally understand, ngl I love her writing against my will 😅 (and the hype around her put me off for years)
it also depends on how much I like/relate to the characters. If I disliked Frances or Connell/Marianne, her writing would have been unbearable.

Deffo is in the book. Haven't watched the series but from the trailer I think he was.

So sorry if this has already been posted but I’ve only just seen the new additions to the Thursday murder club cast -

Naomi Ackie is Donna I presume and Jonathan Pryce Stephen…I’m not sure on the rest because I can’t remember all the characters from the first story but I’m guessing they will be Chris and Bogdan…I always pictured Bogdan huge and bald for some reason 😂

ETA- no idea who David Tenant will be- Ron’s son maybe? Or one of the characters from the actual mystery that I now can’t remember 😂

Picked up both The Running Grave (Strike) and Marlow Murder Club 3 in paperback in Waterstones yesterday (anyone know why Waterstones put the books out a day earlier than they are meant to be released? They also had the new Rob Rinder out yesterday when it comes out today?!) Anyway, now to decide which one to devour first

Going to save the new Rob Rinder and purchase it on kindle for my holiday next month I think!
Weirdly my MMC3 preorder is arriving Weds, from Amazon... Not sure why not being despatched today or tomorrow, but my reading pile is huge so i don't necessarily need it until Weds anyway.

Say it louder for those at the back! How she became such a popular author I will never know.
She just doesn’t work for me either. I had one of those “Am I reading the same book as everyone else?” moments when I read Normal People.

Aren’t there some dodgy local business men involved in the plot of the first book? I can see David Tennant as a dodgy property developer!

Normal People was one of the first books I ever gave up on. I fell for the hype and it was just such a bad book. But silver lining, since then I’ve been more willing to DNF books I’m not enjoying even if I seem to be the only person in the world who hates it.

Recently, I wrapped up "Dune" by Frank Herbert and now I'm starting "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss.

Has anyone read Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky? My teen is currently trying to read it (due to the video game that is based on it), but he's really struggling with the small writing and long chapters. Do I tell him to persevere or move onto something he will enjoy more?
