Yes any thrillers I do read I need that hook. There was a tattle book club a few years ago something about weekend in lisbon or two nights in lisbon or something. I DNF that because it was trash. So yes I can completely understand the giving up if its rubbish or the storyline is crap.
)! I just found it a lot more engaging and really found Nesta relatableyeah, like Stolen Tongues! Such a strong start but really got repetitive after the halfway point 🥲
Just coming back as I’ve finally finished Green Dot and despite hating practically everyone in the book I actually loved itFrom your spoiler (and the summary online), it feels like a book I'd throw across the room à la Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook. Adding it to my 'Hate Reading TBR List'
4.5*s from me.Partial stars are one of the best features on StoryGraph (coming from a graph fan!). Such a wild difference between and low 4 and a high 4 for me, I’m trying to keep 5s for my top top loved it books.Yes 3.75 is about what Id rate it. I gave it 3.5 on storygraph and 4 on GR. (Hate they only have whole numbers)

Footnotes!! What’s in the footnotes???magnolia parks is annoying to read, there are so many grammatical errors as well. sorry to say daisy’s chapters are more annoying than magnolia’s, there are constant footnotes that half of the time are totally pointless. sometimes I question why I enjoy them so much
I’ve had other peoples clothes on my kindle for so long and always been so intrigued by it but never got round to reading it, I may need to push it up the tbr. I think it’s on my 24 for 24!

there are five?!?!? i did like the idea and the first story (with the girl’s boyfriend breaking up with her, i think?) actually got me but overall i found it was pretty bored reading it.
I really enjoyed it but I can see why you'd have that opinion of the end of it.
It was a 5* read for me until the ending! Loved the writing, loved the character, loved her arc. Then it ended and I was just like “Oh.” But I guess maybe I just wanted a happy ending. I should probably change my genres if I want happy endings all round

I’ve looked back and I rated it 4 stars but cannot remember a single thing about it at all! Even reading the description is bringing back nothing but I do remember there being mixed reviews in the book club at the time.
Only just catching up with this thread, so apologies to quote you from a month ago but yes!!! I started it on audiobook and instantly was like no way can I listen to this. It was like listening to a female Stephen Hawking read a book. I’m so torn whether to buy the book as, 1. I’m on a book buying ban and 2. I’m actually put off even by the people that love it. So many people saying yeah it’s boring to begin with but the other books get better. I don’t want to waste any time on a boring book. I want it to be good from start to finish.
I can be like that with so many books.I gave up on BTCGC - it was so not for me. It took me absolutely ages to get to 27% and it felt like such a slog.
