Its funny how different we all are :D isnt it great there are so many ways to read. I think Im also too easily distracted so if I find the ipad heavy or eyes sore I just put it down and then scroll or whatever.
Oh I have to put my wifi on airplane mode or I somehow accidentally end up online shopping. And my phone can’t be within reaching distance when reading either. And actually the iPad is heavy. I do wonder if I just got the wrong kindle and that’s why I couldn’t take to it. I just found it so slow and unresponsive it was driving me cracked.

Yeh my iPad mini even feels too heavy to use for reading. Plus, even though I have an anti glare screen protector I just don’t fin it comfortable on my eyes.

Do you usually like Sally Rooney. If so it does get better. I really liked it. I also listened on audio.

If you dont usually like her then no it probably wont 🙈
I really liked Normal People and thought Conversations with Friends was OK so fingers crossed.

Thankfully Aoife McMahon is my all time favourite narrator so I'll persevere

this is the kindle I have. If I don’t love this, should I write them all off? Or is it worth considering an upgrade? Am going into hospital soon for an extended stay and will be very reliant on a comfortable reading experience!

1 hour into listening to Beautiful World Where Are You by Sally Rooney and I am both bored and confused 😕 hope it gets better as I'm not sure I can do another 9 hour of this waffling.
I hear you - I started this book, found I was quite a number of chapters in and I wasn’t grabbed by it. I started it again, felt the same and gave up.

I think this is the same one I have but not sure. My kindle is quite old, paperwhite but I got it about 5 years ago. I find it not too bad but I dont use it for browing books or anything. I send them all electronically from my phone or ipad and only use it for reading the books. Is it when youre 'turning' the page its slow?

LOVED Sharp Objects. The TV series of it is amazing, Amy Adams is incredible. Also really enjoyed Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, and the film adaptation with Charlize Theron was good too. Would love another Gillian Flynn book!
I LOVED the TV adaptation, it was one of the few ones where they really did justice to the source material.
Plus Amy Adams is an incredible actress. The thing that the Sharp Objects series captured so well was the mood and the atmosphere of the small town. The heat, the tensions, everything. And Patricia Clarkson as the mother- incredible

I loved Normal People and Beautiful World Where Are You. Wasnt fussed on CWF.

I think if you know going into it, nothing much happens and there isnt a huge plot then they are enjoyable reads but I feel her books are never a really detailed and well told story. Love the characters though.

I can't get on with Sally Rooney at all. The writing style, I know for modern literary stuff "this is the way" but it just bugs the duck out of me.

I have the Paperwhite Signature and really love it - feels responsive and I haven’t had the issues you mentioned in your previous post. But my sister has the same as you and really likes it/has no problems either. I wonder if you had a lemon? Annoying!

Yeah it reminds me of dial up internet days or remember the “laptops” you could get as a kid in the 90s

Probably … I have a later version but I’ve also had older ones and I’ve always loved reading on the kindle. Some versions have been better than others though.

Mine is a signature on. I also have the oasis but I prefer the signature. The oasis has been left upstairs somewhere to get out o date with software and likely never work again. LoL

I tend to use my phone for reading books on Libby or BorrowBox rather than iPad, but agree it can be hard to not get distracted this way.

I’ve not used my kindle for a couple of weeks whilst I’ve been reading library books but I’m also going to avoid borrowing ebooks for a while now as do love my kindle.

The library apps are great for the freebies but I do feel somewhat pressurised to then read those books rather than being able to choose from my rather long kindle list 😅

Started the new Cara Hunter last night and enjoying it so far. I see it’s had great reviews here too so I imagine it’ll be a quick read.

It just annoys me that Rooney has become the standard to which all new female writers are compared.

I agree it's extremely unfair.

Whilst we are complaining. Quite sick of celebrities 'writing' a book with a ghost writer 🙄

I hate this too, but worse than that is this tweet earlier this year from a times article (which appears to have been deleted), really shocked me

Oooooh fun. Do we know of any for sure or any we strongly suspect??
anton du beke has admitted to just dictating the plots over the phone to his ghost writer and letting them run with it 🤣 i’m sure michael ball does the same.
