Going back to the comments about re-reading/listening to books, what books (if any) do you re-read? And how often?

Every year without fail I reread The Remains of the Day and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I have a feeling dear Sebastian and This is How We Are Human might make the cut this year.

So after seeing all the hype for Daisy Jones and the Six I bought in the Kindle offers this month. I’m 30% through and it’s so dull! Does anything ever actually happen? I’m totally skim/speed reading every page as I have zero interest. Does it get better or is it all just terrible TikTok hype?

Tik Tok hype. That book is as dull as dishwater. I read every tenth page and even regretted that.

Just finished the Housemaids Secret (in another 24 hours like the Housemaid). Absolutely loved it and another 5 star read for me. I can get over bad writing or a cheesy, over done storyline if it is a quick and easy read. The short chapters are great to get through and keep your hooked! I also liked how this can be a stand alone but can see how reading the Housemaid first would explain some things that happen in this book.

I finished Becoming - Michelle Obama on audible today.

It is my first 5 star this year. I put it off for so long because of the length. Its probably the oldest book on audible that I hadnt listened to. I loved it. I found it such an emotional listen. I cried quite a few times listening to it. I dont think its written to be emotional but I really found myself welling up several times.

She was a great narrator too.

i’ve been listening to this in work! (we’re doing a group listen in the little office i work in ) - and fully agree.

she has such a warm and emotive voice that it’s really lovely to listen to. it sounds like someone taking you into confidence and telling you things, which makes it a really engaging listen i think. she should do more audiobooks!

I'm still a physical copy kinda gal and I've gone a bit nuts recently on all of your recommendations so I've ran out of bookcase space also, is it just me or do you hate movie cover copies of books? It just ruins it for me.

I just saw that this book is on Kindle 99p. I think every woman should read it. It is devastating, frustrating and all our healthcare experiences rolled into one.

Unwell Women, A Journey Through Medicine and Myth in a Man-Made World

Oh gosh I experienced this first hand a few years ago. Kept being sent home by doctors and hospitals over the course of a week where it was eventually discovered I needed emergency life saving surgery. Placing ourselves in the hands of modern medicine is terrifying and yet it’s our only real choice. I don’t think I can bear to read this. It will just frighten me further. Hope you’re being looked after x

I’ve finished fairytale by Stephen King - this one was ok but I’m fast thinking that he’s just not an author I enjoy which is sad. I’ve just picked up Larklight by Phillip Reeve from my library pile so onto that now.

At last count my TBR is around 1000 - I need to do another count up at some point but I’ve not added to it in a few months which is a bonus!

My new kindle came yesterday so I’m earmarking this thread to get some reading inspiration.
I’m not having much luck with my reads this year - I’ve recently abandoned The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which I absolutely hated. And haven’t picked up anything since.

I loved Daisy Jones! One of my favourite reads from last year, was so engrossed the whole time. I started watching the series last night, only watched an episode and a bit but I think it’ll be good! Seems very well done and true to the book

I'm re-listening to the audiobooks when I'm going to sleep. I'm on chamber of secrets which is my least favourite. It also scares me at night, I'm a child really

haha i think i have to agree with you on the chamber of secrets being my least favourite! although gilderoy lockhart is a big plus in it

i've started the housemaid and it seems like the kind of book i won't be able to stop thinking about!

I think most of my favourite authors have been mentioned, so I’m just going to add Beatrix Potter to the list. I have such happy memories of reading about Peter Rabbits and Mrs Tiggywinkle when I was little with my parents.

My kindle changed my life in terms of reading, it's easy and convenient and my god the deals are just a blessing... love the thing!!!

Just finished The Illustrated Mum - that reads very different as an adult than it did when I was younger!

Now onto another childrens book - The Wishing Chair Again by Enid Blyton

I've almost finished Daisy Jones and the Six - what a lovely, fast read. Probably the quickest I've read a book as an adult. Looking forward to the series now!

Going back to an earlier post about a reader being put off of a book because of its length, what number of pages has that effect on you?

I like books that are between 300-400 pages. Unless I’d heard good reviews I probably wouldn’t pick anything up over this amount. The longest book I’ve ever read is A Little Life, it took me ages, I felt like I was reading the same book forever and it just started to get so repetitive, honestly the length put me off more than the content. I’m just of the opinion that nothing needs to be that long and like someone else said it makes me question the author

Dare I say it I think I have too many books on the go at once I’m flicking between them and not focusing on any of them properly. On the plus side I’m loving my Paperwhite

Got an email from Kindle Unlimited to say its increasing to £9.49 per month! Its only £1.50 increase but still seems alot!

I thought the same! £1.50 a month isn’t much but over the year it’s £18 so it’s two and a half extra months worth of money. It prompted me immediately to check when my discounted trial runs out, turns out it’s next week. I’ve only got one KU book on the go which I should finish today or tomorrow so got no qualms about cancelling and holding out for another discounted (hopefully free) offer.

I thought I already live in the future using my kindle, but finding out people live in the year 3000 with their page turners has blown my mind. Here goes my plan not to spend money

I got one for Xmas and it is a game changer to have my kindle on the bedside table, both arms under the covers and just clicking away no cold hands out of the covers

No that's helpful! I bought a remote that in theory connects to the kindle bluetooth and turns the pages (without the bit attached to the kindle) after seeing a reel on IG....but the kindle won't connect to it. Ah well. I think I shall try the version you mention with the bit attached to the kindle. Thank you

I think with the proper kindles (not kindle fires) it just won't work via Bluetooth as the devices aren't very sophisticated. The turned I have the little electrical pads basically mimic a finger tapping it.

I think the device you have would work with an ipad or fire device that has more complicated processors etc.

Just finished Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane and loved it. I’d never read anything from her before but I’ll definitely be picking up more. Is anyone a fan and can recommend her best books? I’m having such a good reading month this month, not read anything I haven’t liked (except the weird Gabby Petito story)
