Hello all ! 👋🏼

I’ve been lurking on here for a while and wanted to drop in and say hi . I’ve recently been picking up books again after a year where I read 1 book (I did have a baby and a toddler so forgive me !) and I’ve been unwell with a stomach bug the last few days and honestly reading is all that’s kept me sane . I thought I’d drop in here for recommendations .

My most recent reads have been the I Am Lucy Barton series , I read all three of those in quick succession . My husband bought me a kindle for my birthday and I’ve been loving it , especially if I’m awake and he’s asleep I can read without disturbing him with a light . I’ve just finished Lucy By The Sea and I’m looking for recommendations of books of a similar ilk - character-driven , relationship-driven , well written and thought Provoking . Grateful for your recs ! Assume I’ve read nothing recent

I have some audible questions … I think I may get more “reading” done if I have audio books as an option . Just to have on while I clean the house , sort the washing out , go on walks with the buggy while my son is at nursery , etc . It’s £9.99 a month … do you just get one credit for that ? Is there a way to get more credits , or pay for books individually ? £9.99 seems a lot for just one book a month !
There are also a few books that are included with audible too. :)

Yes it is. A positive outcome, if there is such a thing.

I really did enjoy the book. I might re-read it soon. I wonder if there are any books out there written and researched in a similar way. Id love to read them if so.

Edit - not directly linked but similar style? I read 'youre the only one Ive told' last month. Its written by an OBGYN who specialises in reproductive health. Each chapter was a different persons story.

Its actually v cheap on Kindle at the moment. I used an audible credit for it.

I was interested in this the last time you mentioned it. Just bought it, thanks!

Right, I know I’m chatting a lot about Cassandra Clare’s books but they’re just so damn confusing! WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM?! I’m now seeing people online who say that The Infernal Devices series is better than The Mortal Instruments. I’m so confused 😅😅 where do I start with her books????? EDIT: I do have City of Bones, so I’m thinking I should just start there, BUT The Infernal Devices is a prequel series, so should they technically be read first?
I really hated City of bones and it made me pass on her books. I know so many people love it but yes, generally I think the infernal devices is regarded as her best series. I am tempted to give her another go with that series but idk....

Urgh I'm in a massive slump again! Although it probably doesn't help I'm now addicted to Hogwarts Legacy :ROFLMAO: maybe I need a night off and read tonight instead 🙈 my local Aldi had a book stand and books were £2.99 each so i brought some that I probably don't even intend to read :ROFLMAO:
Yes I bought The Love Hypothesis in Aldi for 2.99!

@OH.FFS I haven’t read that one but I’ve read See You in September and The Secrets of Strangers and liked them both. I think I’ll get it too. 😂 So much for not buying any books and reading what I already have. 🙊

I think I’ve asked this on a previous thread but does anyone use collections on their kindle? I’m trying to organise my new kindle Busy deleting all my read NetGalley books and marking my purchased ones as read if I’ve read them. My TBR just on my kindle is wild , never mind my stash of paperbacks and library books to read 😰
I have a fiction and non-fiction collection. For a while I was extra organised and sorted the fiction by genre but I did not keep that up 😅
Once I've read something I delete it off my kindle so it's rare I have anything 'read' on there - it's all part-read or tbr.

The paperback of Run Rose Run by Dolly Parton and James Patterson has finally been released - I picked it up last night in Sainsburys and am already a third of the way through and really enjoying it. I waited for the paperback as I want to pass it on to my sister who's a big Dolly Parton fan so resisted the kindle deal last year so been really looking forward to it and glad its living up to my expectations so far.
Glad you’re enjoying it I loved it🤩

Yes this happens to me as I was also reading ad making notes for a medical book and I lot everything. It didn’t backup or keep any of the notes I’d made over about 7 days of reading.
Jeez that’s such a shame. I wonder if there is a glitch in the app or something? Very sad I lost my streak and such a shame you didn’t have your notes saved.

@Caffeine Fiend I'm glad you enjoyed Becoming.

I did too once I sped up the listening speed.

I saw another book by her on Borrowbox, not sure if it's new or not, I've bit looked into it.

I have a subscription to Audible this month and am so confused by it. Any book I've searched for costs a credit and I've already used my one credit. I'm not sure if it's worth the money yet.

The only classic I enjoyed at school was Emma
That was due to the teacher's enthusiasm and absolute joy when reading it. I haven't read any of them on my own.

I've almost finished The Cloisters and it's enjoyable enough but a bit slow/not a lot really happens. I feel like it needs fleshing out a bit. I like the fact it has all the tarot cards explained on the back pages though (I had a peek at them 🤭) I'm trying to decide what to read next now!
