Was it ‘Go Ask Alice’? I loved that bookOmg I adored the Louise Rennison books. They genuinely made me laugh out loud so much.
And yeah all about heroin!! My mum obvs had no idea what I was readingif I remember correctly the main character ran away from home or something and ended up living with people addicted to heroin. And I have the same memory like since seeing it mentioned I can vividly remember reading it and being all shocked, even tho it was so long ago
I've got this on my wishlist. Was it ‘Go Ask Alice’? I loved that book
Yes I downloaded the first on my kindle and really enjoyed itI was so fortunate growing up that I was encouraged to read. I still remember going to visit my grandparents for summer holidays and they would have a pile of books they had got me from the local charity shop to read during the summer.I also have very fond memories of going to the local bookshop as a treat to choose a new book at birthdays. I hammered the library service and still do

I loved the Princess Diaries! funny and easy reading. i remember I got so into the stories and characters, I wonder if I would still like them now.
My parents both really encouraged my reading when I was younger. However my mum is very much a creature of habit and doesn't read new books. She read Shuggie Bain after I passed on my copy but that was probably the first time in years! It would be lovely to talk to my mum about books but I don't think our reading tastes overlap very muchSounds perfect to me! If you’re right and she just wants to spend some time with you then where better than somewhere you’re definitely going to enjoy? Is your mum a reader too? Maybe you could have a wander round Waterstones and share some recommendations with each other? Or if she’s not you could suggest something you think she might want to try.
Omg complete memory triggered here! Apparently I got into audiobooks from the age of 3 and that's when I told my parents I didn't want them to read to me anymoreLoving the nostalgia on this thread! I think I started reading as soon as I could and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I loved Enid Blyton books, Jacqueline Wilson, Goosebumps, Harry Potter, Sweet Valley High, Babysitters Club.
I remember these and have distinct memories of the case with all the yellow tapes in. Did anyone have these?

Although my mum bought books for me from a young age, it was definitely more at my grandparents house that I remember reading. I used to go for a weekend a month and we’d all sit for a while just reading our own books. I’m so pleased I grew up at a time where that was enjoyable for me and I wasn’t distracted by phones and tech.I find it interesting so many people have picked up their love of reading from their parents as I’m the only person in my family who reads, always have been!
My mum definitely encouraged my love of reading and would take me to the library every week, but it was something that was very much ‘my’ thing. Like everyone in the family would buy me books for my birthday and Christmas (which I loved!) but they always did it as if it was some kind of niche hobby!
Although my mum read to me from a young age, she never read herself which I find odd. Even now she's retired she doesn't. The only book she's borrowed from me and actually read was gone girl and the thoroughly enjoyed it so I've offered her others but she tells me she has no time to readI find it interesting so many people have picked up their love of reading from their parents as I’m the only person in my family who reads, always have been!
