Well I wouldn’t call people who are cautious about there health conspiracy theorists

I would encourage everyone to do their own research and make the choice that is right for them. But it seems if you have concerns you are branded CT and attacked these days and then you have the PRO Vaxxers who try and blame the anti vax disgusting vile behaviour when if you read anything online you will plainly how the different sides come across.
And great to see more and more noticing.
Keep up the great work guys 🤪

Plenty of people who are against the vaccines calling those taking the vaccine - sheeps and deluded and plenty more. Neither side is angelic.

Why do you think we haven't done the research? I did the research. I decided getting the Covid vaccination was the best thing I could do for myself and for my community. If someone believes in some of the BS I have seen online about the vaccines, I think they do believe in conspiracy theories. Just my opinion of course! You're welcome to your own.

If I "do my own research", I prefer not to do it on social media from people with no medical training, people faking their qualifications, people who have been discredited or struck off from the medical profession, people proven to be profiting from anti-vax propaganda ...

Almost everybody is 'cautious about their health'. Almost everybody that has accepted the vaccine has done so because they are 'cautious about their health'. Indeed it could be argued that many people that are refusing the vaccine are incautious about their health because they are being unduly cautious about the vaccine.

What does the exhortation for people to 'do their own research' really mean? Almost nobody is able to undertake independent research so for almost everybody 'research' only really means listening to other people. We almost all do that. Unfortunately some people are incapable of applying a reasonable level of discernment to whom they choose to listen to. Indeed some people clearly prefer to give equal if not greater weight to the views of people on the fringes than to the people whose expertise and occupation is to understand the issues and advise people accordingly. I don't really understand why this should be the case but I doubt that it has much to do with being 'cautious about their health'.

So when people 'making the choice that is right for them' cite conspiracy theorists, grifters, political opportunists, anti-vaxxers and sometimes, plain nutters as the source of their 'research' then of course they risk being similarly branded. It appears to me that calls for 'everyone to do their own research and make the choice that is right for them' is really a vacuous and self serving code for 'don't challenge my view however unsubstantiated and illogical it is'.

I recently completed a MA and one of our modules was dedicated solely to research skills. It’s a complicated and sometimes tortuous process. So a flippant “do your research”, implying that they have when in fact they’ve mostly shared social media posts without checking the veracity, really boils my piss.

It really is a complicated process and requires a lot more than just reading a facebook post that someone’s neighour’s best friend’s grandmother posted. 😒

This is what really pisses me off about this whole situation. I’ve had both of my vaccines and I still wear a mask plus washing hands and sanitising often. I have not had one thing to say to any of my friends and family about their decision whether to have the vaccine or not so I definitely have nothing to say to strangers. Same goes for mask wearing. I made a comment a week or so ago elsewhere on sm about rolling my holiday over twice. Someone decided to comment yesterday several times on my comment about people only getting vaxxed to go on holiday “and now where are you? Still in the uk” plus other comments followed with the laughing emoji and the old favourite “a virus so deadly you have to be tested to find out if you have it”. Literally just enjoying my Friday night and some weird troll comes from nowhere to try and have a go. Honestly just tired of it now. I went to London last week and was wary of any protests because honestly if someone had come up to me and said “Take your f**king mask off and WAKE UP” like I saw in a video this week, I don’t think id like to be responsible for my actions.

The do your own research thing means trusting a multinatonal corporation who sees you as the product, to give you an honest answer uninfluenced by commercial interest. Good luck with that.

What does disappoint me is when people can't resist the temptation to gild the lily. They make an excellent short punchy comment and then just have to add some 'but we know the real reason' on the end of it and you just want to plant your head in the keyboard.

A great one about the health sec being infected and how a covid pass could potentially let him in anywhere I thought was absolutely on the nail until I saw the third sentence about how covid passports are nothing to do with covid. So we have a one and a two and a... meh.
So that's half the new audience lost with annoyance at 'well what then' and the other half with 'oh god one of *those*' and all that's left is the people who were already there.

The final blow has to be final. You build up to it.
This is why all the truly effective and memorable examples of the dramatic triple go Thwap! Sock!! Kapow!!!

What's most upsetting is watching avoidable deaths tbh, like that guy who died recently who had let his nurse take a photo.

Waiting until you're in a car crash before you decide to wear a seat belt is a high risk approach to life.

One of the issues in the recent anti vax movement is the lack of understanding that while everyone is entitled their opinion, the fact is not all opinions are equal. Expert opinion i.e. doctors, specialists, scientists, well conducted medical research are not worth the same as a random insta account on the internet.

Part of the problem is that within the community of doctors and scientist there are differing opinions. That is actually where a lot of the counter view points are coming from, professionals.

So I have to hold my hands up and admit that I was totally wrong. I'm pretty sure that many weeks ago I said that in my opinion Piers Corbyn wasn't one of the many grifters attached to the anti-vax, anti-covid mob. I apologise for my error.

I saw that it was awful. But even with things like that people still bury their head and say there is a hidden agenda

But the vast majority are in agreement on one side of the debate.
ETA: I don't mean this in a 'so there' way. Just that for me, I feel comfortable with my decisions based on knowing that it is in line with the consensus.
