Am I being unreasonable?

duck 😂😂😂😂 what have I created, my apologies! no updates really... my friend (the bride) told me to go an find some cheaper accommodation and give everybody the option, but on the group chat they've now come down to £1500 from the earlier £1750 (biiiiggg saving 🙄🙄🙄) and have swapped the villa for an equally swanky apartment but still want to do all the same events but with the caveat that "people can stay at the villa if they want" and everyone has to respond by the end of this week with a view to booking. 🙄🔫

I'm not gonna pay £1000 to sit at home for 5 days so you can imagine what my answer will be... I feel like im in the Truman show that there's people actually willing to part with this kinda cash!
Yeah - I am so shocked that the others are on board with this whole thing!
Honestly, I do feel for you - its an awkward position to be in. Your friend is showing her true colours here

"Thanks, look, I don't want to mess anyone around here nor do I want to put a dampener on the hen do by not being able to partake fully, so I think it's best I pull out entirely. I hope you guys have the best time though and I can't wait to see the photos on social media and hear all about it at the wedding. [Bride], let's discuss maybe [afternoon tea/spa] just you and me as a pre-wedding treat instead".

Done.

Just tell the lot of them that you aren’t going. That’s the end of it. Stop getting involved in the back & forth chat about this or that. Tell them you won’t be by going and exit the group chat. The end.

Seriously.. it’s gone on all day 😂 Just drop out because they shouldn’t have to be changing plans or accommodation to convince you to go. Save them the hassle.

Send them a link to a one star hotel with really bad reviews and say 'found a great deal' 😂

In all seriousness though, your spending money will be huge no matter what cheaper accommodation you find. In order to keep up with them all I'd say you'll spend at least 1k cash with tickets, drinks, food, boat parties... it really adds up.

I’m invested too 😂
But on a serious note, I hope that if you decide to not go then it won’t change your friendship. If it does, then it shows her true colours.
Weddings can sometimes bring out the worst in people so I hope it all works out well for you whatever way it goes! X

No, I wouldn't be going, and I would say it now upfront.
What will probably happen is others will start to drop out and the cost will go up and up.
She might drop you as a friend - tbh she sounds like a bridezilla.

Okay I’ve just checked back in and the price has gone up! This is crazy!! I’d be running for the hills. Hope you’re not too stressed out over it OP and you’re welcome to my Bride’s Dinner instead 😂 😘

Ok here's the situation.

One of my oldest friends is getting married in May 23. She has decided she wants to go to Ibiza for her hen do in October, she has for some reason decided to go for 5 nights (more on this later), the minimum costs are looking minimum £1000 per person for 5 days to do all the stuff she wants to do (more like £1300). There's a group of 3 childhood friends of the bride, the bride, me who doesn't know anyone but the bride and another girl who doesn't know anyone but the bride.

Is it just me or is £1000 way too much to ask someone to spend for a hen do? I'm not familiar with Ibiza pricing and whilst I fully expected (and was happy) to spend £300-£500, I think of all the other stuff I could do with £1000 and wanna cry at the thought of throwing all that money down the drain, particularly as it's spending almost a week with randomers who I may not even get on with.

I feel this could have been done so much cheaper if, instead of going Saturday - Thursday, staying in this huge luxury villa, and the expectation being we go out every night, we went Sat - Tuesday, got hotel rooms and had 1 big night and 1 big day at ocean Beach or somewhere.

its also so annoying I'm having to take 4 whole days of annual leave to spend with people I don't know from Adam.

I broached this subject with my friend and her response wasn't really positive or understanding!
Sometimes I think you should go with your gut feeling it’s usually right, like you say £1000 to spend with random people and you can guarantee it will end up costing more. I’d just say I’d love too but I’m skint and just keep repeating that like a mantra in case people come up with ways in which you could be persuaded ( pay us back later or some other heinous scenario)

remember

“ so sorry but I’m just completely skint” 🤷‍♀️ And repeat …… ❤

And she’s totally unreasonable

@Clarity456 - any update for us this morning?! What's the latest?
Yes I've told them, I was immediately removed from the group and the bride set upon me to inform me that "Your comments are so passive. Like just be honest and accept a bit of responsibility instead of flipping the situation. it’s really frustrating. We are all in our 30s now."

Safe to say I'm considering the friendship. I think the bride has been spoiled as a child and so when someone doesn't do as she wants she responds with anger, and tries to make all these "logical arguments" none of which make sense cos she's just clutching at straws to cover up the real reason she's mad.

Wow. 'Just be honest' - you were being honest and told the truth?

She sound's like an absolute spoiled cat. Completely toxic too.

What on earth happens to people when they are getting married?! This is a crazy expensive and excessive hen party. You'd think people were to starting to wise up to the wedding industry but its honestly getting worse.

I saw a week long trip to Tenerife for honeymoon referred to as a "mini moon" because apparently only long haul Maldives esque trips are acceptable for "real honeymoons" now.

Funny enough one of the girls in the group just got married the other week, she went on a "mini moon" to Santorini 😂 and is planning a proper "honeymoon" later in the year all the while living at his parents to save for a house deposit so if I was her fella I'd be fuming at her flushing 2k down the drain for a few days drinking 🤦🏻‍♀️
