Yup. I’m 37 and had to have one out last year that had shifted and caused me so much pain. Much as I’m not a fan of dentists the pain was so bad they could’ve done anything to me as long as it went away. In reality they took 2 mins to get the bleeder out once the anaesthetic worked. I feel your pain. In the meantime clove oil helps (from chemist) and I used to put a hot water bottle or hot flannel on my face.
That's so so good to know (and sorry you went through it that's awful). It's so painful isn't it, I've never had dental pain aside from when I got braces and this is so awful! I'll get those bits for the pain. They're also really sensitive too which is weird

Jumping on just in case it helps anyone.
I had trouble with my lower right wisdom tooth for ages!
it was impacted, infected, all my cheek was constantly sore and chewed.
Anyway, I had to wait ages because my op got cancelled due to Covid but I had my surgery on Thursday (2 days ago)

I had my lower and top right out.
I had general anaesthetic. When I came round I was in horrendous agony! I had morphine and ended up staying overnight.
Fast forward to day 2 and I’m in so much pain.

I only got full feeling in my face last night.
my right side was so numb and my muscles weren’t working properly, looked like I had Bell’s palsy!

luckily I have found some codine 🤞🏼 It hasn’t completely got rid of the pain but it’s helped a lot!
I honestly didn’t expect it to hurt so much!
I feel like everyone is completely judging me as all I’m getting is “oh well I didn’t feel anything”

My whole throat, Jaw, cheek, gum, EVERYWHERE is absolutely throbbing 😩😩😩

Cant even open my mouth fully.
Anyone else had this type of experience after getting them out?
Xx

I’m 31 and I got one out about a month ago which was honestly the worst pain I’ve ever went through. The dentist was literally holding my jaw and I could hear him cracking the tooth. Afterwards I had to go back to him 2/3 times to get gauze put in, was just in so, so much agony. All fine now but it took about 2 weeks for it to properly heal.
Sounds horrible! I was meant to be getting mine out Friday but they’ve now managed to fit me in tomorrow. I’ve been in so much pain with it I haven’t even thought about the actual procedure and afterwards :( he said it will take about 45 mins and they will have to break the tooth up so it’s not going to be fun! Glad yours has healed and all fine now!

Same, as an adult I had an impacted wisdom tooth that was putting pressure on all my lower teeth causing a band of pain around them, so it had to come out.

Had it done under local anesthetic, absolutely painless and very quick even though it was quite badly impacted at an angle. Slightly painful after, just as you would have with a normal tooth removal but no issues or complications, which are extremely rare. Good luck, you'll be fine x

Does anyone have any tips to help with wisdom tooth pain? I’m ready for the clinic 🤯

ETA: my dentist done X-rays and said they are coming up fine it’s just that they are taking ages and seem to do it in painful spurts 😔
Mine did this too, every few months they’d come out a bit more. What helped me was

- Rinse your mouth with salt water
- crushed paracetamol with a bit of water, then paste that on the area to sink in
- bonjela! Was my saving grace

Yes definitely think about changing dentists! I’ve suffered a lot with 2 of my wisdom teeth and my old dentist said I would have to get 3 consecutive infections before he would consider taking them out! I had 2 infections and went to him crying with pain and he still wouldn’t remove it! So changed dentist and my new one took it out straight away. That was a straightforward removal as it was top one. I’m getting my bottom one removed this afternoon, a bit scared now!!
I have to find a new dentist now. Don't think I would have if she hadn't retired! My wisdom teeth will be the first thing I talk about witj the new dentist 😂

Good luck this afternoon! I hope it goes well and not too painful.

I had mine out using LA and used paracetamol and ibuprofen. Be prepared for some facial swelling for a few days afterwards.

I have two impacted wisdom teeth that have been like it for years (must be at least 10) and my dentist always just says something like 'oh isn't it crowded - they've got nowhere to go!' And asks me if it's painful and to be careful because if they got infected it would be horrendous. I always ask is it possible to have them removed and she just says only if they get infected.

In the New Year I really need to register with a new dentist as my private dentist decided to retire during the first lockdown. It will be interesting to hear what someone else has to say as I have had the same dentist my whole life. I would like then removed really as they are horrid and I think they will only cause me more trouble in the future but the idea does scare me 😂

Getting bottom wisdom tooth out tomorrow in dentist, I had been so excited the past few days to be rid of the pain but panic setting in now 😭 don’t know how I’ll sleep tonight. I feel nervous as I’ve stupidly not done any prep either, didn’t know about pineapple juice etc. I’ve bought painkillers, an ice pack and some yogurt and instant mash but that’s it ☹
You’ll be fine. I didn’t do any prep either but had a really smooth recovery.

Hi guys - it’s over!!! I thought it might be helpful to share my experience.

The actual procedure itself was zero pain, I’m so surprised. I had injections to numb my mouth which I barely felt and they let that kick in for a few minutes. Then he just cracked on and it was done so quickly! Truly amazed at the lack of pain, not once did I feel any sort of pinch or sharpness. The only advice I could give is to be prepared for a bit of noise, the tools and drills obviously make noise which I just didn’t consider and it made me jump at first! 🫢 other than that I just closed my eyes and focused on counting my breath in and out through my nose. Before I knew it he said ‘all done’ and I didn’t even think he had really started/gotten into the thick of it so I was delighted.

I’m a few hours post-extraction now, I did 2 rounds of the gauze for 45 mins each until the bleeding stopped & I took 2 nurofen as soon as I came home. Small bit of tightness in my jaw but I couldn’t even call it pain. Ice cream and ice pack for the evening with some telly now 😊
Glad it went well 😊

One of mine still isn't through. I read somewhere once that wisdom teeth are meant to be a replacement for teeth that have been lost, we aren't genetically designed for them to be in our mouths along with our full set . I don't know if it's true but it's sounds like a sensible theory to me
I had a full set of braces when I was younger (thumb sucking until I was a teen wasn't a great idea). I had four teeth taken out and essentially my teeth pulled forward. My wisdom teeth all came through beautifully and easily

Does anyone know how come some dentists charge ( my dentist quoted £495 yesterday) for wisdom tooth removal, and sometimes it’s free?
I paid £200 for a private dentist although I’m an nhs patient there. Initially they referred me to hospital and it would have been free but my appointment kept getting cancelled due to covid. In the end they agreed to do it for £200 which I didn’t think was too bad (tbh I would have wiped out my bank account to have it out, was in so much pain!) I had another one taken out about 5 years ago by an nhs dentist and that just came under band 2 which was around £50.

Hello! Looking for advice. I have a 4 month old, and am wanting all 4 wisdom teeth out in the next couple of months. Has anyone had it done whilst looking g after a little one ? I’ll need GA for mine as they’ll need to take away part of my jaw too 😭 just wondering what people’s experiences are and also I breastfeed so not sure how the pain relief could impact that?

Ok, I need some advice and hopefully some positive stories! Had my dental check up this week and they did routine xrays which have shown that I need a upper right wisdom tooth removing. It has been bothering me on and off for a while but I assumed it was just coming through, they've shown me that its growing to the side and is putting pressure on the teeth next to it and they recommend extraction.
I'm at a private dentist so the cost is high, £280 to be exact. I am hoping for that price it's going to be as painless as possible. I'm terrified of having a tooth removed, its always been a fear and I would rather go through labour again!
Please give me your stories to help my fear! I haven't even booked the appointment yet as I can't bring myself to. I've had three root fillings, and the pain before each one was horrific - abscesses and infections which apparently went to the bone. I'm thinking if I can manage that, surely it cannot be too bad?!
Its the post extraction that worries me, the dry socket sounds hell.

I’ve just had a coronectomy last Friday on an impacted wisdom tooth.

Had to pay private cos no nhs referrals here for wisdom tooth removal.

I’m like a swollen chipmunk but the best £400 I’ve ever spent.
