honestly, don't be scared! I was literally feeling like you but it was no where near as bad as I thought it would be. I had both my top ones removed and didn't have much swelling or bruising! So I need some good news stories! I posted on this thread a couple years ago that I needed an upper wisdom removed and had lots of advice. I chickened out and never booked it. Its not bothered me since, every check up the dentist reminds me it needs to come out before it causes me pain and I say I'll get it booked in - then I don't.
It's obviously now causing me pain and trouble, last weekend it was horrendous and ibuprofen with cocodamol wasn't even touching it. I've booked in for next Tuesday to have it pulled and I am TERRIFIED. I have watched multiple videos and it's making it worse. I think I can just about handle the pulling side, it's the aftermath. I'm petrified my face will swell up and bruise and I won't be able to put any make up on and look horrific on the school runalso have a severe fear I will get the dry socket and be in mass pain.
I'm genuinely hoping it's a quick pull and not an in and out several times job that takes ages and ages.
I've had several root canals due to absecces, I can handle procedures fine it's just the thought of the pulling and the gaping hole and blood![]()
Warm salt water gargles could help.hi all has my wisdom tooth (lower right) and molar next too it removed last Friday at 8am.. I wasn’t cut or stitched as they both came out easily. Turns out I have dry back to back socket I’m still in agony 6 days on..: I’ve been back too the dentist twice now who each time have blocked it with clove oil on a pad. Any other advice please
Unfortunately, they do have long waiting lists but it's better than repeated pain for the rest of your life.I'm sure I must do, I'll check. That makes a lot of sense, thanks!
Honestly it won't be as bad as you think - just soft food for a few days, painkillers and no spitting after you brush your teeth! I basically lived on Aldi Mac and cheese ready meals and yoghurts for the week after xGetting bottom wisdom tooth out tomorrow in dentist, I had been so excited the past few days to be rid of the pain but panic setting in nowdon’t know how I’ll sleep tonight. I feel nervous as I’ve stupidly not done any prep either, didn’t know about pineapple juice etc. I’ve bought painkillers, an ice pack and some yogurt and instant mash but that’s it

Poor you it’s rubbish. Oh and also take ibuprofen/paracetamol for pain relief tooThat's so so good to know (and sorry you went through it that's awful). It's so painful isn't it, I've never had dental pain aside from when I got braces and this is so awful! I'll get those bits for the pain. They're also really sensitive too which is weird
I had the same problem as you 4 years ago and not had it removed, took azithromycin (allergic to penicillin) and had an xray and a deep clean of the affected wisdom. They told me to remove it once the infection went down but I believe it’s because I had private insurance and wanted to get the money (this was abroad). I have since been to dentists in the UK and have told me it’s healthy and as long as it’s not decayed or bothering me greatly just to leave it alone.Has anyone had a partially emerged wisdom tooth removed? Mine on one side is impacted and partially emerged, causes me grief about once a year but this last time was just horrendous, the worst pain I've ever felt. Dentist prescribed antibiotics for infection (without actually looking at it, still no face to face appointments) and advised to take painkillers, but it's only a matter of time before it bothers me again.
They're really reluctant to take it out if they don't absolutely have to, it would be really difficult (cutting gums, shaving bone) and apparently there's a risk of damaging nerve endings due to the position and I could permanently lose feeling in lips/tongue, which obviously I don't want. I just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience, and whether maybe going private/getting a second option would be a good idea?
Well done!!!I'm home! Still numbed up, anesthetic was put either side of the tooth so feeling like the roof of my mouth is missing!
It wasn't as bad as I thought at all. My heart was pounding though when I got in the chair. I didn't feel any pain, the creaking sound wasn't pleasant but that was about it. I went in at 205 and I was out by 225. I've been told to put some more gauze on if it bleeds and to chomp down on that. No straws or spitting etc and nothing to raise my blood pressure for the next 2 days.
I'm going to take pain killers regardless for the next 24 hours to try and keep on top of anything.
Ladies thank you so much for all your advice, it definitely helped me and I'm really glad I've done it now
Some dentists do also give diazepam which could help you relax. That might help with your anxiety. Stop watching the videos! So I need some good news stories! I had my lower wisdom tooth out about 6 weeks ago. Honestly it wasn't too bad. It took a while because they had to cut the tooth in half to get it out so probably an hour start to finish. I had stitches as well which I took out myself 3 weeks after (hca for a living!). I was so worried about dry socket but took it really easy for a couple of days. I went to the bank the day after and just walking for a minute made it bleed slightly. It was quite swollen and bruised afterwards and I looked like a chipmunk! I stopped painkillers after about 5 days. Hope that helps xOk, I need some advice and hopefully some positive stories! Had my dental check up this week and they did routine xrays which have shown that I need a upper right wisdom tooth removing. It has been bothering me on and off for a while but I assumed it was just coming through, they've shown me that its growing to the side and is putting pressure on the teeth next to it and they recommend extraction.
I'm at a private dentist so the cost is high, £280 to be exact. I am hoping for that price it's going to be as painless as possible. I'm terrified of having a tooth removed, its always been a fear and I would rather go through labour again!
Please give me your stories to help my fear! I haven't even booked the appointment yet as I can't bring myself to. I've had three root fillings, and the pain before each one was horrific - abscesses and infections which apparently went to the bone. I'm thinking if I can manage that, surely it cannot be too bad?!
Its the post extraction that worries me, the dry socket sounds hell.
oh noo definitely not 1h 30, it was prob only 10 mins. No bruised face for me, did get a bit of swelling but nothing major.Thank you both!!! Really helpful. The root fillings I've had were 1hour 30 minutes so I'm trying to make myself think it cannot be longer or worse than that.
I don't mind a bit of a pain afterwards, I just am worried about the dry socket and the actual thought of it being pulled.
Did either of you ladies get a bruised face or swelling?
I was at high risk of this so they did a coronectomy and the roots have been left in.Had mine took out this time last year! It was impacted with an abscess - the pain was unbelievable. Felt instant relief as soon as it was taken out. I have another on the other side of my lower jaw which, touch wood, isn’t causing any problems.
I was worried about having mine taken out as my dentist said it can cause nerve damage? Has anyone experienced this?
It’s actually got better from this afternoon so I’m gonna see how the night goes and call in the morning if it flares up again xMy pain got bad after a couple of days because of the dry socket. But I’d say if it was getting better on day 1 and 2, then went downhill on day 3, and hasn’t improved since then, you should probably contact the dentist (a faff, I know).
Maybe wait until day 7 if you want to be sure before you call.
I had two removed in February best thing I ever did. I was awake and it was over super fast.I’ve got a wisdom tooth in the bottom left of my mouth that is driving me up the wall. I’m convinced it’s growing into my cheek. I don’t know how else to describe it. I also think it’s infected. I’m on holiday in a few weeks time and I’m desperate to get to see my dentist to see what the next steps are. I’m just mega anxious about being awake and potentially having it taken out. I just hate how all four of mine are growing in and some people get none!
It was really quick for me both teeth were partially erupted & the pulling was literally secondsThanks guystrying to be brave and positive about it! It's just such a massive fear that I've had for so long!
Was your extractions quick? How long would you say for the actual pulling?
I had a dry socket and while it wasn’t enjoyable, I would take that temporary pain any day over the months and years of intermittent pain the wisdom tooth brings! You can do it!So I need some good news stories! I posted on this thread a couple years ago that I needed an upper wisdom removed and had lots of advice. I chickened out and never booked it. That’s such a long time! I was referred nov 2017 and had it done feb 2018. Would have been jan but couldn’t make the original date (they rang me last minute with a cancellation so I couldn’t do that one) I went to hospital to get it done though.Slightly younger but at 29/30 mine decided to become constantly infected - they’ve been sat there happily half through since I was 18 and I just assumed they had given upI’m on the waiting list to have the buggers out but someone told me it’s a 2 year wait and that was before lockdown!
