Yup. I’m 37 and had to have one out last year that had shifted and caused me so much pain. Much as I’m not a fan of dentists the pain was so bad they could’ve done anything to me as long as it went away. In reality they took 2 mins to get the bleeder out once the anaesthetic worked. I feel your pain. In the meantime clove oil helps (from chemist) and I used to put a hot water bottle or hot flannel on my face.So..all my wisdom teeth grew through in my late teens and I thought I was done with them but in the last few weeks...at 36, they've decided to move a bit and I'm in grief...am I too 'long in the tooth' ...has anyone else experienced this
You superstar!I'm home! Still numbed up, anesthetic was put either side of the tooth so feeling like the roof of my mouth is missing!
It wasn't as bad as I thought at all. My heart was pounding though when I got in the chair. I didn't feel any pain, the creaking sound wasn't pleasant but that was about it. I went in at 205 and I was out by 225. I've been told to put some more gauze on if it bleeds and to chomp down on that. No straws or spitting etc and nothing to raise my blood pressure for the next 2 days.
I'm going to take pain killers regardless for the next 24 hours to try and keep on top of anything.
Ladies thank you so much for all your advice, it definitely helped me and I'm really glad I've done it now
hope it all goes well! It’s the best thing I ever did getting mine removed.Today’s my day. I had the worst pain Tuesday and Thursday and luckily someone had canceled their appointment today so it’s all happening super fast. I’ve just had my last meal and my last glas of pineapple juice (2.5l in total now since yesterday) so I’m hoping the swelling won’t be too bad and I’m all stocked up with Ibuprofen, ice packs, soups and ice creams .
I thought I would be more nervous but I’m actually really excited for the anesthesia (getting a half-sleep sedation which many say feels like a really nice long nap) and for it to be finally over! Will report back.
And @Hann98 I hope you’re feeling well again x
You will be fine. I was massively worrying about mine and so panicky. I didn't do any of the prep either. Follow the dentist instructions to the letter, mine told me basically do nothing which would raise your blood pressure so no exercise, try not to get stressed, even be careful bending down as the blood will rush to your head. The first night I slept with my head propped up a bit. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen at regular intervals before any pain had chance to make itself known.Getting bottom wisdom tooth out tomorrow in dentist, I had been so excited the past few days to be rid of the pain but panic setting in nowdon’t know how I’ll sleep tonight. I feel nervous as I’ve stupidly not done any prep either, didn’t know about pineapple juice etc. I’ve bought painkillers, an ice pack and some yogurt and instant mash but that’s it

Have you told the dentist that you are a nervous/anxious patient from past extractions? It might be worth while letting them know. I know some dentists specialise in that area.Hi everyone. I’m reviving this thread as I’m heading to the dentist in a little bit to get my wisdom teeth checked and most likely taken out soon.
I woke up with the worst pain two weeks ago (upper left), two days ago (upper right) and tonight again (upper right) and at this point I’m 99% sure it’s gotta be my wisdom teeth.
I’m super scared about the whole procedure as I already had one tooth pulled (non wisdom) and I did not react well to the numbing injection and was bleeding much longer than normal, so I’m super stressed about possible complications and really want to be put under GA (but I’m also scared about that) because I was slightly traumatized by the pressure, pulling and noises of getting that one tooth out.
Reading everyone’s experience has really helped though, so thank you everyone for sharing and I hope you are all doing well.
I was in so much pain with the wisdom tooth though in the months previous, I had to be put on a waiting list to get it removed and the dentist had put like a little cap over it until I could get it removed but it didn’t really help so I had pain on and off for about 3 months, as much as getting my wisdom tooth out was sore after, it’s really good as it’s healed fine and I’m pain free now... everyone is different, you might be completely fine. I had 2 other wisdom teeth out years ago which were nowhere near as sore. My dentist didn’t really give me much advice either on what to do to help it heal, prob didn’t help I went home and attempted to eat a Chinese that eveningSounds horrible! I was meant to be getting mine out Friday but they’ve now managed to fit me in tomorrow. I’ve been in so much pain with it I haven’t even thought about the actual procedure and afterwardshe said it will take about 45 mins and they will have to break the tooth up so it’s not going to be fun! Glad yours has healed and all fine now!
No bruised face here and ones was impacted so more tricky to get out. They usually give you an ice pack thing to put straight on it and then I just did the same when I got home for the first day too.Thank you both!!! Really helpful. The root fillings I've had were 1hour 30 minutes so I'm trying to make myself think it cannot be longer or worse than that.
I don't mind a bit of a pain afterwards, I just am worried about the dry socket and the actual thought of it being pulled.
Did either of you ladies get a bruised face or swelling?
I'm sure I must do, I'll check. That makes a lot of sense, thanks!Do you have a Dental Hospital near you? Ask to be referred to them. They have all the experts there and are more willing to do risky procedures more so than a normal Dentist. My son was referred for treatment the Dentist wasn't willing to risk (they're probably scared of being sued!).
Firstly if it’s an upper tooth there is less chance of dry socket and it’s really unlikely as long as you follow the instructions to not use straws (the sucking can dislodge the clot) and things like just tipping salt water around your mouth rather than how you would mouth wash.Ok, I need some advice and hopefully some positive stories! Had my dental check up this week and they did routine xrays which have shown that I need a upper right wisdom tooth removing. It has been bothering me on and off for a while but I assumed it was just coming through, they've shown me that its growing to the side and is putting pressure on the teeth next to it and they recommend extraction.
I'm at a private dentist so the cost is high, £280 to be exact. I am hoping for that price it's going to be as painless as possible. I'm terrified of having a tooth removed, its always been a fear and I would rather go through labour again!
Please give me your stories to help my fear! I haven't even booked the appointment yet as I can't bring myself to. I've had three root fillings, and the pain before each one was horrific - abscesses and infections which apparently went to the bone. I'm thinking if I can manage that, surely it cannot be too bad?!
Its the post extraction that worries me, the dry socket sounds hell.
I’m not sure.Does anyone know how come some dentists charge ( my dentist quoted £495 yesterday) for wisdom tooth removal, and sometimes it’s free?
