Does anyone know how come some dentists charge ( my dentist quoted £495 yesterday) for wisdom tooth removal, and sometimes it’s free?
That does sound private. I’m not sure if Wales is different but here they don’t routinely remove wisdom teeth unless you’re getting recurrent infections. I was added to the waiting list and was told it would be around 18 months to get them removed. I believe it would have been free or possibly I’d have to pay but definitely not that much!

Hey everyone, I’m bringing up an old thread as I’ve read through and it’s really helped me!! I have an impacted wisdom tooth and also a decaying wisdom tooth, both top teeth. I didn’t go the dentist about the decaying tooth as I was so embarrassed, however when I did go I learnt it’s quite common due to position of the tooth!! Anyway, the dentist advised it’s ok to leave for now, however if it causes me any pain it’ll have to come out, along with the impacted one. It’s not causing me pain, just rubbing on my cheek where it’s quite sharp!

I am so scared of having it out under a local anaesthetic and if I have them done (which I think would be better before causing future issues) I would much prefer to have it done under a general. Those that had it done under a general anaesthetic, did you have to push for it or were they quite easy in giving it you that way? I’ve looked to go private but it’s £2.5k and I just can’t afford it with still being furloughed a year later:cry: Thanks in advance if anyone helps!!! Xx

Edit: I had teeth out when I was a teenager and the local anaesthetic didn’t work, so I felt everything! I think that’s why I’m so scared to have the wisdom teeth out under local!
I had two wisdom teeth out under general anaesthetic but that was 30 years ago! I then had one out at the Dentist with the numbing injection and the last one was really loose so I just told him to take it out without a numbing injection and it came out easily!

My husband also had his out under GA but again, quite a few years ago. Have they stopped doing it under GA?
