It depends how impacted they are. I didn’t have much swelling but when my husband had his out his face was really swollen.Thank you I’ve read it can take up two weeks for the swelling / bruising to go down![]()

that sounds painful I hope it goes smoothly for you this time aroundhad two out 6 years ago
the holes both goth infected but the emergency dentist refused to give me antibiotics just kept saying us corsodyl! (twice i was there in pain after removal)
eventually i just had to go to my own dentist who gave me them right away, cleared up no problem.
getting other two out soon
I had a dry socket and while it wasn’t enjoyable, I would take that temporary pain any day over the months and years of intermittent pain the wisdom tooth brings! You can do it!So I need some good news stories! I posted on this thread a couple years ago that I needed an upper wisdom removed and had lots of advice. I chickened out and never booked it. Its not bothered me since, every check up the dentist reminds me it needs to come out before it causes me pain and I say I'll get it booked in - then I don't.
It's obviously now causing me pain and trouble, last weekend it was horrendous and ibuprofen with cocodamol wasn't even touching it. I've booked in for next Tuesday to have it pulled and I am TERRIFIED. I have watched multiple videos and it's making it worse. I think I can just about handle the pulling side, it's the aftermath. I'm petrified my face will swell up and bruise and I won't be able to put any make up on and look horrific on the school runalso have a severe fear I will get the dry socket and be in mass pain.
I'm genuinely hoping it's a quick pull and not an in and out several times job that takes ages and ages.
I've had several root canals due to absecces, I can handle procedures fine it's just the thought of the pulling and the gaping hole and blood![]()
I had my lower right & upper right out last month it was fine. I didn’t have any swelling or bruising. No dry socket either but I did follow the rules to the letter. Stock up on plenty of soft foods & rest if you can. I had several infections before the teeth were removed and the infections were a lot worse than the extractions. So I need some good news stories! honestly, don't be scared! I was literally feeling like you but it was no where near as bad as I thought it would be. I had both my top ones removed and didn't have much swelling or bruising! So I need some good news stories! It was really quick for me both teeth were partially erupted & the pulling was literally secondsThanks guystrying to be brave and positive about it! It's just such a massive fear that I've had for so long!
Was your extractions quick? How long would you say for the actual pulling?

Some dentists do also give diazepam which could help you relax. That might help with your anxiety. Stop watching the videos! So I need some good news stories! Thank you sooo muchSORRY FOR AN ESSAY AND ANY MISTAKES.
I had an upper right out on Monday, I was also just like you, petrified that I'd look like a punch bag and would 100% get dry socket...
I didn't, for either!
The first numbing needle I didn't even realise, the second felt scratchy and a bit warm, I'd say spiking your gums with a crisp is more painful.
Then the extraction. You know it's supposed to hurt, but you can't actually feel the hurt, so it's really bizarre as you can quite honestly hear every creak and crack being amplified by your head
It feels like pressure, it's not at all painful, just incredibly strange, it's unexplainable.
I went in at 10:05am, check, xrays, needles and extraction all done by 10:25am and I was out by 10:30am.
Face felt like TV static and I had to bite down on gauze for 20minutes.
I walked around town and picked up some bits and bobs(mainly painkillers)then walked the 15mins upbank walk home.
Tiniest bit of swelling, my husband really had to look to see it to confirm, 0 bruising and 0 dry socket.
Jaw felt a little crappy and couldn't open my mouth more than 2fingers worth for 48hrs, my bite felt incredibly off and I couldn't put my teeth together for a little bit more than 48hrs. Wasn't terribly painful, more just a shock and ow.
It's Friday now and the only shock ow pain I get is if I clash my teeth together, like making alligator snapping sounds at my kiddo
I'm back in the seat Monday (20th) for a bottom left Wisdom extraction.
Even though it'll be a week since I last experienced it and know it's very much mind over matter, I'm still nervous and most definitely not looking forward to it.
It's 100% natural.
Please, brave the chair, a moment of gruesome sounds and a week of feeling a bit strange but okay, is much better than a single day of toothache![]()
Good luck tomorrow! Make sure you have some soft food in for afterwards - I pretty much loved Mac and cheese and yoghurts for about a week after! Rest up too, you will be fine xxThank you sooo much
All these messages are definitely helping put my mind at rest.
Good luck, you’ll be fineMy appointment is 2pm, I'll update you all later when I am minus a wisdom tooth!!!
Well done!!!I'm home! Still numbed up, anesthetic was put either side of the tooth so feeling like the roof of my mouth is missing!
It wasn't as bad as I thought at all. My heart was pounding though when I got in the chair. I didn't feel any pain, the creaking sound wasn't pleasant but that was about it. I went in at 205 and I was out by 225. I've been told to put some more gauze on if it bleeds and to chomp down on that. No straws or spitting etc and nothing to raise my blood pressure for the next 2 days.
I'm going to take pain killers regardless for the next 24 hours to try and keep on top of anything.
Ladies thank you so much for all your advice, it definitely helped me and I'm really glad I've done it now
