Seems unlikely that she would go by Kate for most of her life and then re-formalise and lengthen her name again! Don't think she's going to be insisting on her friends and acquaintances calling her Catherine; it's just a way to keep the plebs at a distance and remind them that she's not their friend, she's their future queen. I personally don't find the name "Kate" offensive and she was introduced to the public as Kate, so presumably that's what she calls herself.
But in public terms, she's always chosen Catherine. 'Kate Middleton' is something the media won't let go, rather than something she calls herself.

So 'why is she calling herself Kate Middleton, not Kate Windsor' - because she's not.

I really do feel for her. I was diagnosed with incurable cancer in my twenties with two young children and having to navigate that with them over the last few years has been difficult. For them knowing their mummy is sick and for me knowing that my life expectancy isn't long and they are going to grow up without me. I can't imagine facing such news with all the public scrutiny too. I hope Kate has a smooth chemo journey.

The poster didn't say that though
They said

Does she call herself Kate Middleton? Why isn't she referred to as Kate Windsor?

I just posted this in the H&M thread and thought I'd pop it here too.

My heart goes out to Catherine, and King Charles.

In saying that I do have to wonder. I'm an ex-NHS nurse. I now live in Australia as working in the NHS was killing me. My sister is a district nurse in the UK and tells me horror stories of calling ambulances on patients she visits for things like true chest pain, potential strokes etc and waiting HOURS for an ambulance.

It sounds like both Catherine and Charles' cancers were detected due to planned surgeries. I wonder how long the 'average' person has to wait for planned surgeries and how advanced these cancers may then be for those people by the time they are found. This does not take away from my empathy for the Royals. But it does make me wonder if the average joe would have such a chance at earlyish detection and hopefully cure had they needed to wait months to years to get surgeries done on the NHS...

We are average Joe’s going through similar. The stress of appointments, lack of information, chasing biopsy results is incredibly stressful. It’s really hard.

Here's an idea. Catherine is her public and obviously birth name. But William has referred to her as Kate (engagement interview, he repeatedly said Kate) and her uncle has more recently.

I don't get why people can't understand she might be Catherine in public, Kate in private.

It's no different to people putting the full version of their names on job applications etc, but but using a shortened version at home.
She probably sees Catherine as her stage name. It’s a persona she puts on with the posh frock and tiara to help her through.

She started being called Kate in her late teens/Uni years by her friends. That’s why William calls her it (though he does use Catherine often).

Her family have always called her Catherine, even Gary calls her it sometimes.

She’s said multiple times in engagements that she doesn’t mind either name.

Diana was known as Lady Di before she got married in the press. That was a lot easier to transfer to Princess Diana in the papers. Technically “Princess Diana” was always incorrect too because that’s only for born in royals. Di was Diana, Princess of Wales, never Princess Diana. So they used that for ease too. Anyway I don’t see the big deal in using Kate Middleton, I’m sure she doesn’t mind considering she still is part of the family. People get offended by strange things. 😅

Normal people who use "catherine" and get their knickers in a twist when everyone else says "kate" come across to me as absolute royal bootlickers. Someone used the word subservient to describe people's character when they talk about the royals and I think that might be the best way to describe how it makes me feel when people froth at the mouth when they read Kate. I can't imagine she finds it offensive herself.
I have read some people saying she's 'always" been Catherine. Surely as royal fans they saw the engagement interview?

I wish Kate well. Im not a fan of the royals at all but I do have empathy for her situation like any normal person.

It’s so odd that people can’t be nuanced about stuff. Yes it’s terrible that she has cancer and yes she needs to consider her young children, but the way KP handled all of this will be studied for years in communications classes on what not to do. It was mistake after mistake and not realising the gravity of the mess they were making in real time. I see they are recruiting for a new member for the comms team and offering 25K…you don’t attract top talent for that.

They also completely threw her under the bus for the Mother’s Day fiasco. I really don’t believe that Kate had anything to do with that picture. The original picture didn’t exist and was cobbled together from a few images, which is why they never released the original. Yes people may do minor edits but that picture was more than a few tiny edits. If they had just said, here’s an older picture of the family taken last year, the princess wasn’t up for a formal shoot at the moment, people would have moved on. I read that KP wouldn’t even engage with the photo agencies which is why they issued the kill notice. That is so unprofessional and they’ve done long lasting damage.

Yes some of the theories were outrageous but that’s the internet and that’s what comes with public life unfortunately. The rumours about William have been there for years. It’s unfortunate that they have resurfaced when Kate is going through a cancer diagnosis, but it’s been building for years. People being sanctimonious about people gossiping about Kate while on a gossip forum and writing awful things about other people in other threads is really a sight to behold.

They're trying to gaslight us about something so unimportant 😂
I love that these people are so insistent, as if they know her.

I'm sure I've heard her (very lovely) brother call her Kate so odds are that's how she introduces herself to peers.

The thing is Kate was never missing KP put out a statement saying she was having surgery and any updates would be announced in due time. Some people came up with outlandish theories and then KP made it worse releasing that Mothers day photo!

I think all that needs to be put to bed now because at the end of the day the future queen of our country and a mother of 3 is unwell and having chemo and the focus should be on hopes and prayers that she fully recovers. 🤞 🙌

I think this should just show people how the media can manipulate people, no one would have said a thing had it not been for the media starting rumours. Its always been that way but surely more people can see it now?

I mean obviously we are all on a site commenting on public figures but i don’t think we generally claim that those public figures bad PR made us do it. We’re all responsible for what we post

Don’t get your knickers in a twist about royal name protocols. King Charles should Be Charles Mountbatten as that’s what his father’s surname was. Harry is legally Henry and Megan’s real first name is Rachel. Didn’t Harry refer to William Willy in his book? Perhaps we should all call him Willy Windsor while I’m on it more the whole Windsor being a surname isn’t really a thing for them as they’re referred to more by their titles. They are the house of Windsor.

Willy Windsor sounds like a Beano character so I vote, yes, we call him that 😂

or Battenberg, as the Windsors were before the war.

Let's face it, the best you can hope for is to not be ill enough to have to go to A&E these days - a sad indictment of what the NHS has become under the Tories.

I'm no royalist but you'd have to have a heart of stone to not feel for someone who's 42 who's been diagnosed with cancer, irrespective of their background.

You’ right about the William affair rumours.
I for one find it hard to believe he’s the first ever prince of wales not to take a mistress. And yes sanctimony on a website literally called Tattle where people come to gossip and say edgy things is grating. It happens on other threads not just royal family ones.

It's such a sad state of affairs. Part of me misses the UK, but I have a chronic health condition that, in Australia, I have access to multiple specialists for in appropriate time frames and with proper follow up.

I wouldnt get any of that in the UK and from what my family say, would struggle to even get in to see a GP!
