We bought our home as a newly married couple over 40 years ago and since that time we have had the most wonderful neighbours. They were 20 years older than us and were truly just like family. They’ve now sadly passed away and their house has just been sold. We miss them so much but are very lucky to have a lovely young family as our new neighbours; we now feel ancient as the young couple are the same age as our daughter and their toddler is the same age as our youngest grandchild!

Where on earth have all those years gone? It seems like only yesterday the WE were that young family!! 😭

Standing in my kitchen at 7:30 on a Friday night debating whether to have a can of coke or a cup of tea. Or have the coke, then in an hour or so have the tea. But then will I sleep? Will I need a wee in the middle of the night? Will needing a wee wake me up at 5am?
I’m sure it was only a couple of months ago I was drinking wine at 7:30 on a Friday, thinking about having a shower and getting ready to go out around 9:30/10. What has become of me?!?

I was discussing two different tech options and said ‘we need to back the right horse or it’ll be like VHS and Betamax’ and no one in the room knew what I was talking about and most of them had also never seen a video tape.

Finding other people annoying everywhere I go. When I was younger I thought my parents moaning about parking, traffic, rude sales people, bad service, prices of things, “youths” etc was just them being old and boring. But now?!? OMG everything gets to me!! Just been to the cinema and the amount of people talking, looking at their phones, putting their feet up on the occupied seats in front of them, getting up and going and coming back…..ugh. Don’t pay to go places and then not make the most, and certainly don’t spoil it for others!!
Signed, Grandma BonBon (I’m 42, not 82, but I feel it 👵🏻)
I feel your pain
I now feel like my grandma I turn the tv on and everything seems geared to simpletons and it’s the same tired boring unfunny Z list celebrities as guests on every program

Doing really responsible 'old people' shit - planning & attending uncle and dad's funerals last month. Then sorting the contents of uncle/aunts house and readying it for sale, last month into this.

Holding a clutch of LPA's for mum/aunt - being the contact on all boring household 'stuff' such as gas, electric, insurance etc, for them as well as my family.

I'm 2 birthdays away from 50. I don't remember my mum and dad doing this for their parents as young, certainly not for aunts/uncles. That said, my aunt had no kids, and my uncle did everything financial/household. Its been relatively easy as they hoarded bills etc right back to the 70's, so it was just finding the more pertinent ones that still had a relevent purpose.

It'll be a relief when the aunts place is sold as its the other side of the country and sorting stuff 'remotely' is a ballache even with a top notch next door neighbour who can pop in to 'rescue and send' stuff.
No experience in life has made me feel old like my dad dying did. I was in my 30s, and he was in his 80s ,and the experience of am elderly person on end of life took a bit innocence away from me.

I feel physically sick. You’ve just made me realise I’m closer to my 50s than being a teen. Oh my good god.
You’re a CHILD!
I’m 57. In my head I’m still in my prime, then I look in the mirror and there’s some wrinkly old bat staring back at me.
