Did you guys go to Moss Bros with your other halves? How’s the experience? Im interested to know if you make appointments and if the staff know about tailoring etc.
I would love a process more like buying a bridal gown from a boutique, where you have your own space and a dedicated person to advise you who really knows their stuff and you can build a rapport with. The lady at my dress shop was incredible and put me so at ease, it’d be good to have something similar for him - wouldn’t have a clue where to start with materials etc and what to bear in mind for a destination wedding suit so would like someone else to do the work tbh
obviously he has done no research on this himself

I went with mine, they were brilliant. We went on a Saturday so they were really busy. I think you might be able to book appts but we didn’t. We browsed for a while, found a few suits he linked and then found an assistant who measured him up, found the right sizes etc. He also showed us a couple of other options based on the one we’d found, helped him try them on, found shoes that went. it wasn’t dress shopping levels of attentiveness (i was the only one in the shop, so it was literally me, my sister and the lady who owned the shop for 3 hours!) but it was brilliant. We ended up getting the jacket tailored a little to fit him, and they measured him up and it now fits perfectly. We got an off the shelf suit, that was adjusted but while i was waiting there were a couple of people being measured for/ordering made to measure ones. Service seemed to be again really good. they talked through the material swatches, gave advice and then gave them some time to Go through the swatches and choose. Anyone mind sharing the ballpark figures of what they are paying for bridal hair and make up? It’s more than I thought it’d be but equally I’ve never had hair and make up professionally done (aside from standard haircuts) so might just be me not knowing the current rate!

Makeup I’m paying £40 for bride and £35 for the bridesmaids, but she has put her prices up this year to £50 bride £40 bridesmaids
I’m paying £175 for my makeup including trial and £60+ travel for my hair, then £40 per extra person for makeup and £35 for hair.
This is pretty much the exact same experience we had! We just wandered in for a browse and they were so helpful. He tried a load on and was pretty set on a Hugo Boss one. He went back with his best man to order and they measured them up for the suits to be tailored and provided details so the ushers and dads could arrange to go in for their fittings in their own time.
I’m paying £450 for make up for me, 4 bridesmaids and my mum and £375 for hair for me and 4 bridesmaids (I can’t remember the breakdown without the invoice and it’s on my work laptop!). I am using my usual hairdresser and make up artist though and so that’s with a fair bit of travel.
Hair & make up is roughly 60 each for bride and 45 for bridesmaids
£85 for hair & makeup for the bride (me) and then £75 for hair & makeup on each of the bridesmaids and my mum!
Would anyone mind sharing what they’ve paid/been quoted/budgeted for wedding dress alterations? Got my first fitting next week and realised I haven’t a clue what sort of ballpark we’re even talking. I have separates (top, bodice, skirt) and all 3 need sizing down, and the skirt needs to be about a foot shorter….

mine is in the ballpark of these prices! Really interesting to see the variation though, I’m getting in married in a rural ish location so finding the prices slightly hire, maybe to account for travel costs.

I occasionally dip into mumsnet to read the trending threads and there’s one on there today about child free weddings and people asking for money instead of gifts. The poster said that the wedding they’d been invited to had a little poem to ask for cash instead of presents and everyone was saying how tacky this is.
We were planning to ask people for money towards our honeymoon instead of gifts (if they did want to give us anything) as we’ve lived together for years. I wasn’t going to do a poem as such but how do you communicate that with your guests without sounding like “give me money”?
