ive no idea what i want - completely clueless and its impossible to look at the websites as they are all tiny and bout 6ft tall!! i just need to go away and make an appointment -just something i have been dreading is all.
I’m in the same boat. Dreading dress shopping. I know what I don’t want, more than what i do want! Its also the faff of trying them all on as well thats making me put off booking appointments. I know I sound miserable but can’t understand people that go hyped with a big group of people to go dress shopping. Literally can’t think of anything worse because of all the pressure to “enjoy” it! I’m planning to go on my own at first and only if I can’t decide I’ll ask someone else to come.

I took my sister with me, it’s useful to have someone to take photos which I found more useful than the mirrors for actually seeing what I looked like

I was expecting to hate it, but I had such a good time. If you’re going to a boutique rather than wed2b they really know their stuff, I told her roughly what I was after (well what I didn’t want), and she had a load of different options out when I arrived.

Would giving a bridal shop a call (even if it’s not one you’re planning to visit) to talk about things help? I spoke to the lady who owns the shop I got mine from a couple of times on the phone before I actually booked an appointment. They will tell you how it all works, what to expect etc

I was only thinking this morning how I’d love a tattle thread for wedding planning, then it popped up on the recent section 😂🤩
So commenting to stay here! I’m getting married in March 2023 - venue booked, church booked and guest list sorted but that’s it so far 😅

I would definitely book sooner than later. When I went for my first appointment I was so nervous and anxious as I’m very insecure about my appearance but, honestly every shop I went to, the staff are so lovely and comforting. If you aren’t at your goal but, you know what shape you will be when you are then they will be able to guide you fine! (Like if you are hourglass, pear shaped etc.) I only took my mum on the first visit then took my sister in law, who is one of my closest friends and a very honest person without being rude. Also, if you are unsure just let the stylists guide you and see what they would recommend.

Or you could watch say yes to the dress - the Irish one has a lot of lovely timeless pieces, the Lancashire one with Gok has a good mix and the American one has some absolute monstrosities.

Just had some more thoughts re being nervous to dress shop.

I started off at wed2b as they have such a wide range of sizes, as well as many different styles and everything easily comes in on budget. Being unhappy with my weight I knew if I started off at a boutique with only a couple of sample dresses that I had to be clamped into that would have made me feel tit about myself. You don’t have to book, and it’s pretty informal. I tried on one of each style - fit and flare, a line, ball gown, mermaid, short etc. Just to try each style, had no intention whatsoever of walking out of there with a dress on that first trip.

I didn’t end up buying one but understood what was flattering, and also learned the instant “NOPE” reaction - trust your gut, if you don’t like it, just move on quickly to the next one.

I then went to a more traditional boutique, but they were having a sample sale so vvvv cheap (in fact my dress was cheaper than wed2b) - which again helps as you don’t have the budget worries. I wouldn’t have tried my eventual dress had the lovely owner not encouraged me to try it (it’s not that exciting looking on the hanger and also because I thought I’d figured out I wanted fit and flare), but as soon as I put it on I knew it was special and half an hour later it was mine. Really trust the staff as they know what they’re talking about and all I’ve found were lovely and kind. I think I probably tried on 10 dresses in total across the two shops, and the experience definitely helps you narrow it down when it comes to it.

I so understand feeling nervous, reluctant, the pressure of it all, but once you take the plunge and that first step, it really does get easier and even enjoyable in the end 😊 and great to have it ticked off the to do list.

Now just pray for me because my husband to be is picky AF about clothes and choosing his suit is going to be a bleeping nightmare 😂👍🏻

Managed to find a company to provide all my aisle decor, centrepieces, gorgeous artificial top table flowers with candles, a light up dance floor and a photobooth
Thank god because I do not have the time to meet 50 different suppliers organising a wedding 140 miles away

Thanks all, some good advice on the thread! There is a Wed2be near me so could start there for getting a general feel for dress shapes and then book more specific boutique. I’ve found one I like a lot of styles in but it’s one hour 30 drive away! Suppose for the right dress it’s worth it…

Thank you everyone for your advise, really really helps! I appreciate everyone taking the time.

Can 100% relate to the groom suit - i had to do it once for a wedding that we were just guests to and it was a living nightmare!!!

August 2023
All I have is a venue and photographer booked
I also have a dj as its a family friend
Waiting for quotes from hair and make up And for a company to provide centrepieces dance floor etc.
Were going to a wedding fair in January, may get a few things booked then.

What are people doing for wedding favours? I just want a little token really, I’ve been to weddings before where they’ve had candles and stuff but surely nobody wants to lug that around all night 😂

I had thought about doing a little shot of something for adults but I’m not sure if there’d be corkage to pay? And I’d need something different for kids/non drinkers.

I'm buying the mini Mason jar shot glasses from home bargains (80p each im sure) then getting like a sticker or a tag made and filling each one with 50ml of drambuie for the men and tequila rose for the women

I’m making cookies and have bought a fondant icing embosser with our names on, surely people will take cookies home and if not we’ll be happy to take them home and snack on 🤩

It’s worth checking your venue’s T&Cs, ours charged an absolute fortune for corkage for alcoholic favours

Something edible always goes down well in my experience! I wouldn’t have bothered myself but our planners have budgeted it in, so I think we’ll just have a gianduia chocolate or something 😁

Unsure if this is slightly off topic but here goes:
Been with partner 11 years. We have a 1 (almost 2) year old child. He always said he doesn't see the point in marriage and to be fair, it's not at the top of my list.
However, February this year he proposed!
Thing is, he point blank refuses to discuss anything around planning a wedding. I'm worried he got carried away with himself and only proposed to me as he felt it was the 'right' thing to do after having our child.
Thoughts please?!!
