Oh god, Iā€™ve so much revision to do to remember all this lol

so last night was my first wash and curly revive session. It looks like a tit, shaggy perm that has straight bits amongst it all. I donā€™t think I have the patience to preserve šŸ˜ž canā€™t it take up to a year so get it back to normal? I look like Iā€™ve been electrocuted ffs šŸ¤£
Did you use a t shirt to wrap using th eplop method

Iā€™ve told myself that once Iā€™ve finished all my frizz ease products for straightening, Iā€™m going back natural! šŸ˜

Iā€™ve been looking at Instagram accounts of curly girls and the amount of gel some of them use šŸ˜³ how does it not eve up crunchy?!

The cut of my hair isnā€™t suitable for curls, any advice on what to ask for? I know everyoneā€™s hair is differentā€¦ just need some pointers. Thank you.
Hello curlfriends! Iā€™ve been fully embracing my 3a/b curls for a decade now and agree itā€™s SO freeing.

I would encourage you to give away your frizz ease stuff NOW and begin the journey. It will make it quicker and easier.

Cut is really important but thereā€™ll be an in between stage (mine was 10 long months while I grew out bleach) where youā€™ll need your curl pattern to show through.

Once itā€™s started to bounce in itā€™s natural way, find a curly cut specialist who will cut it dry, either curl by curl or by design once they know your hair.

As for products, my hair is dry and medium/fine but very curly (basically big but mostly air!) and I used to be very restrictive and only CGM but canā€™t really be bothered with that now and just use basic stuff. T Gel Sensitive and a Shea Moisture conditioner and hairspray for hold would you believe.

Definitely get a micofibre towel, t-shirt plopping didnā€™t work for me and dragged my curls down. Scrunch dry and donā€™t be afraid to finger twirl a few bits while wet to give them guidance. GOOD LUCK! āžæāžæāžæ

I found the opposite which goes to show it's a process of finding what works for us individually.

@Notworthy I plopped but put the products on after šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Clearly havenā€™t read up on the technique.
The longest length of my hair is at my collar bone (slightly longer when straight) do I really need to buy a denman brush?! I donā€™t want to spend loads of things that arenā€™t going to work for me.

Denman brush is totally not necessary. You can use the technique with anything, even a basic comb and lots of conditioner. I use a tangle teaser. Just allow your curl pattern to emerge while wet and encourage it with scrunching with whatever works for you. Clean tea towel? Old T Shirt? Idea is to let your curls be and not force them (by silicones, straightening or any major heat or chemicals) to be what they arenā€™t naturally!

One thing I found helped was rather than wash my hair in the shower and rinsing while leaning back I wash over the bath with my face forward

I've been wearing my hair curly for about 3 months now, and it is so liberating! I found it took a while for my curl pattern to really bounce back but it gets so much easier! I tried loads of complicated methods and in the end I think I have just got it right. I find less is more for me. My hair doesn't like gel or mousse. It felt like such hard work in the beginning but it's so much easier now than just having pure frizz all the time. One thing I have learnt is that one person's routine and products might not work for another so you have to try out different things to get it right for you.

I never brush only in the shower. I shampoo roughly once a week but really just when it feels heavy or dirty (I use sulphates because my hair doesn't do well without them), hair mask, leave it soaking and apply leave in conditioner and curl custard then scrunch. Chuck it in a microfibre towel then after 10mins I scrunch and twist a few bits. I either leave to dry or diffuse. Between days I do the same but no shampoo and tiny bit of mask or conditioner. I tried the denman brush technique but it didn't work for me as I don't think my hair is long enough.

I like Tea Reneeā€™s YouTube channel. I started watching it recently and Iā€™m picking up so much info ā€” DIY hair mask inspiration, washing instructions, different techniques for drying (never heard of chasing before). She has natural hair. She makes videos of doing silk presses at home and also bringing her curls back. Her hair is so shiny and healthy, itā€™s insane. I highly recommend checking out her silk press videos for proof before moving on to her curl content.

Does anyone have layers? Would you recommend having them. Mine is really thick and heavy but, Iā€™ve been advised against them as it might sit funny when curly

If youā€™re a regular gym go-er, how do you manage the sweaty head if you donā€™t wash your hair every day? (I never washed mine every day when it was straight, just used dry shampoo) šŸ˜‚šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

My hair is very thick and I have a few layers round the bottom but it's very subtle, enough to take the puff out! If you can, find someone that knows how to cut curly hair so they can style it properly to check. Mine cuts then does thinning after when it's dry so she can see where it sits properly.

Although I don't think it's Curly Girl approved because it's got SLES, I've started getting compliments on my hair since switching to Superdrug Extracts coconut water shampoo šŸ˜… I've found it keeps my hair wavy but do be careful, as I've found it's not an every day shampoo (as it dried my scalp out when I used it daily as opposed to every couple of days). Not tried the conditioner but they're both currently like Ā£2 on sale.
Smells like a pina colada, though not everyone is keen on the scent from the reviews.

Does anyone have tips for managing 2a/2b hair? I had mine partially bleached so I could get highlights and the frizz is killing me šŸ˜¬ I hardly use heat and mousturise religiously but my hair is still super dry.

I have recently had mine bleached and as itā€™s so dark and already coloured I had to use 40vol to lift it, I have been using a protein treatment on mine as well as deep conditioning and itā€™s less frizzy than it was. I am more 2c/3a and I also use a leave in conditioner before some gel and diffusing it as it definitely makes my hair less frizzy. I cowash my hair quite a lot with As I Am, but also like the Imbue shampoo and conditioner

I really like Umberto Giannini banana butter leave in conditioner, seems to help me. All their bits are vegan/cruelty free too, if that's important to you.

I use Adwoa blue tansy leave in conditioner. I stop right before my strands are saturated and then top with AG Slip spray because the hair will be kind of tacky.

Omg, thank you for this!! I went for it and had some layers put in; tonight was my first wash day since. The results are incredible, my hair looks better than ever thanks to the layers, theyā€™ve given it so much shape! Thank you ā¤
