So the judge has already decided that "Rebecca Vardy's account" means Rebecca Vardy?

Seems like a mistake to me. Could have been clearer but most people would know someone high profile has several people that can access their accounts. Out of touch judge?

I think it's because she said "someone who I trusted to follow me on my private account"

Ah thanks, that makes more sense. Still UK libel laws are silly in that Colleen needs to prove it was Vardy rather than Vardy prove it wasn't her as she'd need to do in other countries.

It's not started yet, was just listening to the radio. There's a few papers doing a live blog, we'll see soon which is the best one to follow!

I think Vardy will win but with minimal damages only. I think she has lost in the eyes of the public whatever happens because the texts published make it look like she was trying to sell stories even if this specific incident can't be proved.

If the damages are limited and she rejected an offer from Rooney to settle and ends up with less than that, then it could be a very Pyrrhic victory as (depending on the terms of the settlement offer), she may have to pick up all the legal fees from the date of the offer onwards. The system encourages parties to settle which is why it’s not worth reading too much into offers to pay the other side off.

That feels like a good result, even though money's not an issue giving Vardy a bill for £2+ million must still sting.

The law is stacked against Rooney for winning, but at least she tried to resolve it multiple times.

Vardy can win the case, but still not win overall where it matters.

How has Jamie stayed with her is what I want to know. It's clearly a dumpable offence. He must be a laughing stock in the dressing rooms and I'd imagine it would be very hard for anyone to trust him for fear of his mouth piece of a wife will go and spill all to a tabloid.
From popbitch when this first kicked off.

In her statement of defence, Rebekah Vardy tried to reason with Coleen Rooney by saying “I’m not being funny, I don’t need the money” – but surely Vardy knows that money isn’t the only reason a celebrity would strike up a transactional relationship with the press.

To pick an utterly arbitrary example out of thin air: let’s say your partner had been heard directing a racist slur towards a Japanese man in a casino back in 2015. An incident like that could cause quite a lot of unwelcome turbulence.

But what if the Sun had some further details of this event? Details that it chose not to publish. Video evidence, for instance, that could have made life even more difficult for a rising-star striker.

Obviously a paper that showed such kindness and goodwill to a couple in a predicament like this may end up expecting a favour or two offered in return.

Serialisation rights to his autobiography, perhaps? Or the odd insider story?

Link to the BBC story on J Vardy racist incident.

A charming couple, well suited it seems.

I suppose that the money is less important to them than to many people, it’s the pr side that they are battling for.

Oh definitely, it's what a ruling to pay up would mean symbolically.

Exactly this. This is the part I've never understood. Colleen did NOT say it was Rebecca Vardy, she said the leak came from her account. Which everyone in those kind of circles knows would be accessed by agents, PAs etc.

@Yel Wow, so Colleen was actually willing to pay RV off?

It’s fairly obvious that RV is guilty (even if I don’t like Colleen), but wouldn’t Colleen offering to settle make her look guilty herself?
No. Many people do this just to avoid the protracted stress of a trial.

I'm kinda glad the UK has it's (outdated) no cameras in courts laws. After Jonny and Amber stuff it's nice to just read text updates.

I wish they'd colour code them so it would be easy to pick out the interesting new stuff and not have to read the predictable lawyer stuff.

Nothing of note has been said yet.

From the Daily Mail, what does this mean? Also her (RV agent Caroline Watt) written evidence has been withdrawn:
Ms Watt had been due to give evidence in the trial but was recently found to be 'not fit' to take part, also withdrawing her written evidence.
Mr Tomlinson said: 'We simply don't know what the true position is in relation to Ms Watt... She's not communicating with anybody.'

Hmmm, judging by the opening information it seems to me that Vardy will likely win.... If she pins it onto her PA and the judge thinks that "RV's account" only relates to RV then how can it be established that it really was RV, especially if there is no evidence that RV spoke to the Sun directly

There's a knife in her back with Vardy's fingerprints on it.

Does this mean she’s had a mental health episode ‘not fit’ or because she’s lost a lot in the North Sea she’s not a reliable witness so therefore ‘not fit’?

The burden on proof is on Colleen - can they use those text messages between RV and her manager?
