Yeah idk I’ve always got bi vibes off Jade and a lot of her whole positivity related stuff seems like it comes from a place of unvisited insecurity within herself. Seems like she’s always trying to convince herself she’s worthy of happiness etc rather than ‘share her knowledge’, and I wonder if that has something to do with it!

Honestly used to be a massive fan of Jade, but since Minerva she's become so smug and pretentious. I think it was her BLM Q&A that pissed me off the most and ultimately changed my opinion of her. She's a middle class white girl, why should she snatch the voices away of BIPOC for her own personal elevation?
It's like she suddenly thinks she's an expert on literally anything because she read a book or an article. I used to think it was just her genuinely wanting to share information out of passion but now it seems so sanctimonious and condescensing because it comes off as if she thinks she knows absolutely everything. It'd be much more bearable if she just gave recommendations rather than giving watered-down, rehashed explanations like we're children. Everything she posts now just seems like she's trying to prove that she's some minimalist, together, all-knowing wonderwoman who's here to rescue everyone from not knowing about credit scores and BLM! It's such a shame. She was a lovely YouTuber back in the days of school, but now she's just fallen into the privileged middle-class-but-thinks-they're-really-woke archetype.

So true! When she was talking about personal finance the other day and 'what we're not taught in school' just because she read one book I had to roll my eyes. There's entire YouTube channels dedicated to personal finance with experts in that area, why should I listen to a 20 year old who's scared to go to the bank?
I just think kids don’t listen, we currently teach kids about pensions when they’re applying for jobs but I just don’t think at 15/16 kids are bothered, it also don’t take long to find the information, Martin Lewis regularly does segments and whole shows on this sort of stuff, I was slightly older when I applied for a credit card but it was dead easy, more simple than she’s made it which makes me think she was after an American Express for the air miles!
Yeah, MSE has been quite a good resource for me the older I've gotten. The Financial Diet on YouTube is also really good-it's more focused on American economics but the principles are the same. I think she just believes you can do anything you put your mind to which isn't bad in principle, but it's bloody annoying to spread these ideas when the only reason she can do half the stuff she does is because her parents are mega rich.
I hope she looks back on herself in 10 years with some more maturity and realises how ridiculous she was... but I doubt it
I hate this “you can do anything you put your mind to” thing, it reminds me of self help books and ideas of “manifesting “ what you want in life. Yes it’s good to try for things, but it’s down to much more than that. This just implies if you don’t get something, you didn’t work hard enough, which obviously is not Thta simple

You don't learn things by rote in a traditional university so why would she say that? Jade is just showing that she went with the hype and had NO IDEA what a normal university was like. Shes not very smart is she.

I don’t think anywhere in the Uk you learn by rote anymore? I dont even remember really doing this at school in the 1990s? Of course she has learned more, everyone learns more at uni than school
her friends at other uni must find this constant bragging insufferableYou learn as you do? Do what? If I have understood correctly they don't have much labs or fieldwork. So you learn by reading and doing course work? I'm pretty sure that's the standard.
I get bi vibes off Jade, but see Ruby as very asexual. I think that Ruby almost idolises Jade, and is jealous of both her academic success (it seems to come easier to her) and how secure she is in who she is as a person.
That article was soooooo frustrating! I have some experience working in HE and everything her and the CEO said was so tone deaf and clearly shows they don't have a wider understanding of the higher education landscape. Universities aren't just sitting in a hall being talked at any more and they haven't been for a long time. Active learning is huge in HE and people are changing to accommodate that. There's conferences every year on how to use technology to enhance learning, on how to design learning spaces that are adaptable for changing your style of teaching throughout a lecture, how to use practical experience to enhance degrees.
Even without these new developments, at one point he says "what makes Minerva different to its traditional counterparts, where “students sit in a class, they’re not called upon to answer questions, or apply the content to novel contexts. A professor simply talks to them.”" which is just...not true? And hasn't been true for a long time? Even when my lecturers went to university in the 80s they sat in seminars for discussions answering and asking questions, and the whole point of seminars is to apply things you've learned in new contexts or consider them in new ways. I actually genuinely wonder if this CEO has ever gone to university himself, or if his idea of university is entirely from watching TV.
