I was in hospital in 2016 having another surgery (chronic illness life!) . It was the middle of the night and I was in pain, I buzzed for a nurse and a lovely smiley nurse came and asked how she could help. I explained I needed some stronger painkillers, she smiled and said I will be right back with them. Ten minutes later no meds, 30 mins later no meds. I buzzed again and was in agony and was crying. Another nurse came and was like like “oh my goodness are you okay. What’s wrong !?” I explained that the other nurse was getting my meds but wasn’t back yet and I was struggling. She questioned me and said “the other nurse” and I said “yes, the one in the white dress that is always smiling” . She paused and said “no one on shift wears white dresses” I explained the nurses appearance to her and she sort of stopped nodded slightly and smiled and said “ she means well, but I’ll go get them”.

I spoke to the lady serving breakfast about the nurse in the white dress and she too smiled and said “she never left the hospital”. I was confused and when my family came to visit , we googled the uniform description and it came up as 1930s nurse.

Yes I could have hallucinated from pain but I honestly think it was a nurse who loved her job so much she never left. I have another story from the same hospital but I will share that later.
Love this!!!!

Ok - I’ll be back tomorrow 😘
Sorry I’m late with this - had a slow day yesterday! :)

When I was in my early 20’s a friend and I decided to go to a psychic Fayre at a local Leisure centre. We wandered around the hall where there were numerous psychics offering various services, tarot, clairvoyant readings, angel cards and the like. I walked around a couple of times and found myself drawn to this woman. As I stood a bit nervously considering approaching her she asked me if I’d like a reading. I said yes and it so happened that she had a slot right then. I sat down and told her I would like a tarot reading. She actually practiced, tarot, clairvoyance and read angel cards but I could only afford the tarot reading so I settled down for that. She did a 6 month spread and I don’t recall much of that other than her saying she could see lots of books on a dinner table and surmised I was studying for something. I didn’t affirm or refute but she went on to say that I needn’t be anxious and would pass. At the time, I was indeed doing a post graduate diploma whilst working an office job and so my dining table at home was permanently littered in books as my permanent study place. Whilst I don’t remember a lot of the rest of the tarot reading I do remember being impressed. As it came to the end of the reading she suddenly said, “I know you only want a tarot reading but I have someone here who is very insistent on speaking with you”. I was a bit embarrassed to admit that I couldn’t afford anything other than the tarot reading to which she responded. “This message is important so lets not worry about payment”.

She went on to say that she had a female presence with her who she felt was from my mothers side and that it was her mother. She said that she was trying to tell the psychic her name but she couldn’t grasp the name as it seemed unusual but that she was being shown the letter “H”. My Nanan had passed many years before, shortly after I was born but she was Austrian and did indeed have an unusual name by non-Austrian standards. I won’t write it here as I don’t want to give too much about myself away.

I confirmed I understood what she was saying and that it made sense but said no more. She went on to say that my Nanan wanted to pass on a very special message, the psychic said she saw balloons and cake and asked if it was my mum’s birthday. It was. That very day!

I kind of expected that to be it but the psychic went on to say that my Nanan had a lot to say and she felt she had to pass on these messages. She explained that they may not mean very much to me but told me to hold them and they would become clear.

I had a pen and paper and proceeded to write down what I was told.

  1. She talked about a precious ring that had gone missing and been found behind a cooker.
  2. She described a single white rose being laid on a coffin.
  3. She talked about a family member very close to my mum who had died in tragic circumstances. She wanted to say it was no ones fault and she knew the family had tried to do everything they could. The psychic then mentioned the family member by name (I will refer to her as “S”) and she said my Nanan said “S” was with her now and safe and happy.
  4. Finally she talked about an orange Lilly.

With the exception of number 3 none of the other things meant anything to me. In the case of number 3, my mums sister, my aunt, had died unexpectedly in very sad circumstances after a long battle with her mental health. My mum and aunties did everything they could to support her but I know they felt like they always should have done and there was that constant nagging doubt that it was never enough.

At the end of the reading I thanked the psychic and she got up and came around the table and gave me a big hug. She said I had a light around me that would always look after me. I asked her if she would be at the next psychic fayre as they were held fairly regularly in our town and she explained that it was purely by chance that she had ended up there that day due to someone pulling out at the last minute which seemed quite a lucky chance.

I left the hall, my friend was just starting her reading, and went outside to call my mum who lived in the North of England at the time. I told her where I was and that I had some things I wanted to see if she understood, below are what she told me.
  1. After my Nanan died, my mum and my aunties went to clear out Nanan and Gradad’s house as my Grandad was moving to a smaller place. Whilst they were tidying in the kitchen, they pulled out the cooker as this was going to the new house. On the floor behind it they found a ring my mum had bought for my Nanan. My mum had been looking for this very ring as my Grandad had said all of the children could take some of Nanan’s jewelry as a keep sake. My mum had particularly wanted the ring because she had bought it for her but hadn’t been able to find it until they cleared the house.
  2. When my Nanan died, one of her sons was in the Falklands Island and couldn’t get leave to attend the funeral. He arranged for a large bouquet of white roses to be sent to the funeral and my mum took a single rose from the bouquet and threw it on to the coffin once if was lowered into the grave

When I asked my mum about the lily she couldn’t explain it. She said that Lillies were my Nanan’s favorite flowers but always white lilies, not orange.
That afternoon I got home and went in to my kitchen and in the sink was a bouquet of flowers that the girl I lived with had been given as a good luck present. Right in the center of the bouquet was a lily which, to that point, had not bloomed.
As I walked into the kitchen, I stopped dead in my tracks as right in the middle of the bouquet was the most beautiful orange lily!

My sister was renting a house and at the time didn't like it but didn't really mention why, blaming generic things like the house being drafty or not what she had in mind afterall . The rent was suspiciously cheap on the house, but for the house it was actually pretty decent (in my view). So we checked out with the landlord that I could take over living there for the rest of my sister's lease and perhaps continue after.. bar no problems!

It started with small things like seeing shadows out of the corner of my eye and would look over to see nothing there, assuming my eyes were making tricks on me. One day I was at home on the phone to my then boyfriend and he heard a man's voice say "hello" during our call but my boyfriend said the voice sounded really croaky or deformed and not a normal voice. There was nobody with me, I was alone.

We began to also hear footsteps many times going up the stairs, especially when in the living room watching telly or when we were in bed outside on the landing by our room. The house seemed ok during the day but at night took on a different feel and my sister was alone living there so I can only imagine what she felt. My boyfriend also woke one night to see an old man stood in the opposite corner of the room staring at us, he told me this later on so not to scare me.

When the lease was up, we decided to find a friendlier place and also with more space. I spoke to my sister about my experiences whilst living there and she pulled odd faces and went white but dismissed things as me seeing / overthinking things until I moved out. Then she came clean that she too had felt cold spots, footsteps, seen the man in her bedroom too but by the foot of her bed and she just never felt 'alone'.

Wow I have just finished reading this thread. I started reading it early this morning, I couldn’t sleep so went up to the spare bedroom and ended up finding this thread to read, went downstairs to use the loo and my boyfriend came out of our bedroom and I screamed 😂

Never had anything major happen but was once dog sitting with my dad for my godmother who lived in a very old quite big house, possibly 17th/16th century build near the Cotswolds. This was when I was about 16, it’s hard to explain but the house just had a really oppressive feeling about it and I always felt a sense of relief when we went out for the day etc. We were there about a week. Every time I went to the downstairs toilet the tap was left running turned all the way on, I kept meaning to say to my dad you need to turn the tap off! And wondered how he washed his hands with it on that strong anyway without getting soaked. I screwed it very tightly closed every time and then would just forget to say anything. One time took the dog for a walk and came back and the stereo was on full blast, hadn’t even touched it that day. The dog which was usually really quiet and good natured also would walk into the hallway and bark and growl in the same spot every so often.

We’d got about an hour down the road back home when my dad said to me ‘god would you ever remember to turn that tap off!’ and I said I was going to say the same thing to you?! We both just froze 🤣 I think my dad was creeped out as much as me by the house but didn’t want to say anything. We’ve never really spoke about it since but he once said he was glad never to go back there when I mentioned the time we dog sat but then quickly changed the subject!

Sorry that was crap compared to other stories on here.

My Aunt and Uncle (actually my step mum’s sister and BIL) live in a barn conversion in North Yorkshire they built themselves about 30 years ago now I think. I’ve stayed at the house loads of times, they’ve casually mentioned a lady in a long, brown Victorian dress who stands in the field you can see from the kitchen they’ve both seen many times when they’ve been doing the washing up etc. My step mum says she’s seen her too. I have never asked for any more stories as I don’t think I’d ever be able to sleep there again 🤣

This is not really as creepy as previous stories but I’ve never shared this before. When I was about 17/18 and still living at home something weird happened one night and I’m not sure if it’s ghost/creepy coincidence. We lived in an old Victorian railway cottage that had been extended at the back. My parents and my bedroom were opposite each other upstairs in the old part so at the top of the stairs there was literally my door and theirs opposite. I could always here them opening/closing their door from my room and if there was anyone coming up the stairs. One night around Christmas, my mum and I had gone to bed and my dad was at a Christmas party and due home a little later. I was drifting off to sleep and I was woken up by the noise of the handle to my parents room. It was one of those round doorknobs you had to hold and turn to open. It sounded like the doorknob was being turned back and forth but without force so the whole door was just rattling. Being half asleep I just assumed it was my dad coming back from his party after having few drinks and struggling with the door. I quickly drifted off back to sleep but was woken up again this time by my dads stomping up the stairs and the noise of him opening his bedroom door (with ease) and humming a Christmas tune to himself. I was a bit confused but I thought he must have gone downstairs to the toilet (our bathroom was downstairs) and was coming back up a second time. I fell back asleep. In the morning I came downstairs and my mum was already up but looking very tired. She told me she didn’t get much sleep. I asked if it was because of dad struggling with the door handle and going back and forth up the stairs. She looked at me dead straight in the face and said “you heard that too?”. She went on and told me she had been woken up by the door gob turning and rattling and also like myself assumed it was my dad so got out of bed to open the door. And he wasn’t there ....
Scared she got back into bed and got her mobile to call my dad when suddenly she heard the front door open/close and my dad come up the stairs humming a Christmas song...
Still to this day we have no idea what happened ....

A creepy story from DS forum:

I once temped at an extremely old Royal Institution in Holborn in London, which pre-dated the Great Fire of London.

The Building itself was built & rebuilt a number of time on the same spot & housed absolutely fascinating paintings of old Fellows of the Institution, dressed in 'fool Turpin' style attire.

It also housed a pathology museum & lecturing halls which contained deformed fetuses in jars & all form of medical macabre'ness dating back centuries. Anyone who knows Holborn in any level of details already knows exactly where I'm talking about - and a quick google search will enlighten the rest of you you.

However, what may surprise people is that in the basement, is a Mortuary. If you donate your body to science, this is where you may end up - serving as a learning tool for visiting lecturers - who have accommodation in the levels above the museum.

My role was a very last minute Security Guard. Though I had absolutely no experience in Security at all, I was at a loose end & the temp who was supposed to be there 'let them down very badly at the last minute' - so I agreed to go in for their Graveyard Shift - knowing nothing about the place other than it's address.

It was easy money. I locked up a few doors separating the museum & lecturing halls from the accommodation part - and buzzed in a few visitors, stumbling in from the pubs after the 11pm 'curfew'. Apart from that, I sat on the net and made myself coffees all night.

Nothing remarkable happened the first night, and in the absence of another placement I agreed to stay on for a few weeks.

Thereafter, things started getting odd.

I'd be sitting on the security desk and my bag (which I'd popped under the desk) would vanish. Id later find it exactly where I left it. My coffee would move to the opposite side of desk. Shadows would appear in well lit places or appear to move.

I was quite prepared to put all of this down to my imagination until one night, just after I'd finish locking up the doors between the museum & accommodation - I went back to the Security Office to return the keys when something on the CCTV monitor caught my eye.

In the corridor I'd just locked (which was adjacent to the office) was a man dressed in 1800's garb, walking very calmly towards to dividing glass paneled doors. He was in his mid-to-late twenties and had very pale skin, but was otherwise very solid. Outfit asides, there wasn't anything otherworldly about him. As he approached the door, light shone through it on to him as if he were solid.

'Sh*!' I thought. 'I've locked someone in!' I thought - having no reason to think otherwise.

I grabbed the keys again and jogged out of the office towards the doors, called ahead

'I'm so sorry! I didn't realise anyone was still....'

My apology was cut dead however as a floor to ceiling column of really dense shadow emerged through the glass doors (almost like watching a rain storm on the horizon) and passed silently across the foyer.

I looked through the doors and saw noone. I looked back at the shadow & it continued very deliberately through the foyer to the guest bar area.

The column threw me, but I was still thinking I'd locked someone in. Maybe they'd seen the column and freaked out. But where to? The corridor was locked. As were all the rooms off the side of it. I'd just locked them.

I unlocked the dividing door and went back to check. One of the rooms was unlocked but was completely empty. The street lights from outside lit the room up to almost daytime brightness. Definitely no one there. An intruder maybe?

Having no experience of this I rang up my emergency 'Out of Hours Contact' - who was the Building Manager.

'I've locked someone in the museum - but I can't find them.'

To say he was pissed off was an understatement. Half an hour later, he arrived and we both carried out an extensive / fruitless search of the museum.

'But he was on CCTV!'

We rewound the tapes to the time I saw him - and saw nothing but a dense column of shadow pass in front of the screen.

The building manager left, seething that I'd woken him & gotten him to come in for nothing a worst - a shadow at most - and left me to sit out the rest of my shift alone. But I knew what I saw. It was a person. I could make out the detail on his outfit. His hairstyle. Eveything.

When the Accommodation Receptionist arrived at 7am, I decided to very nonchalantly ask her in a round about kinda way (so she wouldn't think I was mad) about the place.

'So, this place is really old, huh...' I ventured lamely 'Bet these walls could tell a few stories?'

She immediately shot back with -
'What have you seen? What happened'
'What do you mean?' I asked.
'You've seen something. That's why the other guy before you left in the middle of the night. That's why they all leave You're asking me for a reason, not out of the blue.' she said, seeing straight through my lame atempts at subterfuge.
'Well yeah...?' I said 'But I didn't actually think I was right?! What... what did I see?'

She went on to tell me how the place is notoriously haunted. (The unlocked room especially.) The guy before me (who's shift I'd covered at the last minute) had legged it in the middle of the night when he looked out of the security office and saw a woman in a floor length gown running across the foyer. As all our guests need passes, he ran after her so he could sight her pass.

'Excuse me?!' he yelled a number of times as she lifted the hem of her skirt and ran up the stair case, which wound it's way around the rear of the foyer.

As he reached the landing in the middle of the stair case and she neared the top - she vanished into thin air, right in front of him. He scarpered mid-shift and when he refused point-blank to ever return - so I was drafted in to fill his shift.

Admittedly, this did freak me out a little - but as I said in my last post, I'd had other supernatural experiences in the past - and what set this apart from those, is that I felt no sense of malevolence from what I'd seen. If it were a 'bad' spirit - you get a real feeling of 'this thing wants to cause me harm' - and I had no such feeling. Yeah, it was unsettling - but I was intrigued more than terified.

So I did return - and it was the start of what was one of the most fascinating experiences of my life.

The next time I saw it, a week or two later I was locking up the guest bar on the far side of the foyer. As I was about to exit - again a floor to ceiling column of shadow emerged from the museum corridor opposite & rushed towards me, in the darkened bar. There was nowhere to run except further back into the dark - or straight into it - so I stood rooted to the spot.

As it passed through me, it was extremely suddenly cold and felt like static electricity passing over me. (Like when you take clothes out of the dryer & pass them over your hair.) It litrally crackled as it passed through me.

Again, I didn't feel it was out to hurt me - but it definitely wanted acknowledgement that it was there. So I eventually caught my breath & said out loud...

'Seems like you want a drink even worse than I do!'

At that, there was a massive thud behind me in the dark.

My heart was almost beating through my chest at this point, but I called out

'Well, make yourself at home. Have one for me!' - so I walked out, locked the bar & went back to my desk on the far side of the foyer.

I sat staring into the bar, which seemed extremely dark now. A short while later - the column of shadow emerged out of the bar and edged into the centre of the foyer - as if it were eying me.

We stared each other out for about half an hour or so until the shadow eventually faded away.

This is far from the end of this story - but I'll continue it another time.
I know this story is old but wow. You are a fantastic story teller! Fascinating tale, and great structure too. Did you continue the story?

lurker on this site here, but this thread caught my eye.

i lived in what seemed to be a haunted house aged 12-14 and i’m pretty sure i befriended a ghost. the entire family situation was a mess at the time, parents had split a couple months before and my mum had met someone else and rented this house, i didn’t get along with my mum’s partner and was mostly living with my abusive dad until they broke up and i turned 14. it was quite a dark time, i was depressed and on off suicidal and there was always a lot of arguments and upset in that house, which could explain the negative energies we all felt in that place to an extent but what we experienced went beyond that.

there was a bit of shuffling around the bedrooms initially but i ended up with the largest room in the house, on the top floor looking out over the train station our garden backed onto (not relevant to the story but i’ve always found train stations to be creepy places and a hub of paranormal activity, though in this case i used to just sit on the windowsill and watch the trains go by, nothing but peacefully). no one really wanted this room, because the trains were loudest here and woke whoever slept in the room up multiple times, and the room and the landing outside seemed to be where the strange things in the house were centered. me and my ability to sleep like a log through just about anything, deathwish and apparent lack of sense of self preservation didn’t care and eventually, i moved full time with this room being my bedroom.

i can’t really remember the order things happened in and there were too many to list here but basically almost everyone who lived or visited here experienced something.

multiple times my mum would sit in her armchair in the living room watching tv the floor below my room and hear footsteps behind her or the sound of some kind of cat-like meowing or hissing with no one there. at one point she was laying on her side alone in bed in her room after her new marriage ended and she felt a presence behind her in bed breathe on her neck but again there was no one there.

my little sister had tons of nightmares. everyone heard footsteps on the upstairs landing while we were in our rooms.

at one point we had the cat my dad had got me there and she would stand in the living room at the bottom of the stairs and hiss or stare intently up the stairs and literally nothing. at one point while we were away and the cat was still there, my auntie was coming over regularly to feed it. the food/water bowls were in my room opposite the door and as my auntie was refilling them with her back to the landing she heard a short burst of music play from behind her.

we also had my aunties dogs over a lot, and one i particularly bonded with would constantly be looking up the stairs and the landing, ‘guard’ me and refuse to let me be in my room alone, and if he slept over would always be in my room laying sprawled out next to me even though 2 other people lived in the house, as if he could pick up on the energy and was ‘protecting’ me and trying to put himself between me and something else. coincidentally (i sure hope), he died suddenly aged 2 years old at the nature place his owner worked.

my personal experiences were pretty vivid, looking back i feel like it could’ve been my imagination or mental health but that doesn’t explain how many other people experienced stuff.

firstly, my bedroom was always colder than the rest of the house and there was a kind of musty smell that emanated from a cupboard in my room next to the door. and there was always a feeling something or someone else was there. just that sense of awareness another person is in a room with you even if you’re both sat in silence or you didn’t actually notice them come in.

my mum was very christian and the time and was quite scared of the presence and at one point had a priest come in and bless the place with holy water, but i actually refused to let them do my room because i have some controversial beliefs about christianity and didn’t really want any rituals or whatever of a religion i didn’t trust or fully understand performed in my space. instead i just said to the prescence something along the lines of “hey, i don’t know you, you don’t know me, but i have no fear, malice or ill intentions towards you, and so long as you’re the same towards me, hopefully we can co exist”.

the presence didn’t feel ‘evil’. it didn’t feel particularly ‘good’ either, but it didn’t seem like it was ‘bad’ more so ‘troubled’. which was fine by me because i was too.

i “saw” it in some form twice, but almost always ‘felt’ it or heard footsteps like everyone else. the first time it was about 4am, and i couldn’t sleep so was sat in the middle of my bedroom floor drawing. with my head down in my sketchbook i heard the usual footsteps on the landing, but then saw the shadow of something travel diagonally across my room from my door to the curtain on the other side of my room. i didn’t see what casting the shadow directly because i was looking down but something passed through my room. i hid in the bathroom, composed myself and then came back to my room there was nothing, the energy felt fine and i went to sleep.

the second time, i was sat on my bed on my laptop in broad daylight and a small golden orb clear as day travelled from the direction of my window over my laptop screen out my field of vision and disappeared. this experience was entirely peaceful.

another strange thing was, i was sat on my bed, facing the direction of the window back to the rest of the room, and i was acutely suicidal, ready to take my own life. then all of a sudden i got this intense sensation of ‘don’t’. it was an internal sensation but entirely contradicted my own thoughts and feelings and felt as though it had come from behind me and wasn’t my own. personally, i believe it was the presence and fairplay to it, it was enough to stop me from doing anything stupid.

in a weird way, i felt a bit of bond with this thing. towards me, at least, it definitely became friendly.

eventually, we got evicted from the house and the night before we moved out i stayed up all night. it was the middle of summer so not that creepy, but in the lead up to that day my room had slowly been filling with moths (i didn’t mind i’m very much live and let live and if there’s anything in my room i either catch it and put it outside or leave it be). that morning, i sat on my windowsill, listening to music watching the sunrise and the trains go past, and a good 50+ moths were flying round my room. it was strangely beautiful, imo moths are just goth butterflies but i know some people would find this terrifying. a couple times a minute one would land on me or my hair for a second then fly away again. it felt like a strange goodbye to the house and was a really precious moment for me.

after we left, no strange things followed us, we moved around a bit then found our ‘forever home’ and we’ve never experienced anything paranormal since then. what was striking, was how empty new places felt even if it was just staying in a friends spare room. like that first night away, i slept in my aunt’s sons room while he was away and it was noticeably uncomfortably empty because i’d adjusted to always having a prescense with me, and it a weird way i missed it.

i never worked out what the presence was, we couldn’t find any info on the history of the house when we googled it. i have absolutely no evidence of this or explanation to why i think this, but i suspect someone hung themselves off the railing in the cupboard that always had the strange smell and maybe was haunted by the troubled soul and that’s why it seemed to speak so vividly when i was having thoughts of a similar thing. or maybe it was some kind of spirit related to the train station outside.

but at the same time, i take everything with a grain of salt. it was a very turbulent time for everyone and my mental health was a hot mess so i wouldn’t be surprised if the entire thing was in my head, although that doesn’t explain the fact everyone who visited had similar experiences and when we moved out it all went away where as if it was some kind of mental episode surely it would’ve followed me instead of just stopping overnight even though my mental health stayed the same/got worse.

i’m also not sure if it was a ‘ghost’ or if it could’ve been an external spiritual manifestation of our own pain, or maybe some kind of spiritual echo of previous events that occurred in the house. or just something beyond the limits of human comprehension.

to this day, i don’t know, but it was defo weird and i hope you guys find the story interesting.

This will be long so bear with me.
I'm kind of a skeptic, I do beleive in spirits and that there are things that arent in our realm but I feel like so mnay people are quick to cry ghost when something happens they cant explain. There was one thing in my life that I have never been able to explain and has always creeped me out.

So it started when I was around 13, I was woken up suddenly wityh a sense of dread, just as I drift off to sleep I hear these creeping moaning that I can only describe as the sound the demons from Ghost make. It lasted about 3 secs max. I freak out and eventually fall back to sleep. The next morning my parents ask me if I heard that noise. I told them I did and they said it ws the weirdo neighbour moving furniture around.
A year later we are in a different house and I awake in the night again with that dread and i just know what im going to hear. Yep its the same creepy noise only this time its a bit longer like 10 secs. The next morning my dad claims he didnt hear it but my mum did and says it was probably our dog having a nightmare.
Not long after I have a friend sleeping over and I awake again with that dread. I look down at my friend who is fast asleep and I hear that noise again. The next morning she claims not to hear it and my parents say they dont and again blame the dog.
A little after I go away to Derbyshire with the school and we stay in a youth hostel. As my friend and I are walking back to our room one night we suddenly hear the noise, my friend looks right at me in fear and we both run into the room. I couldnt explain it.
The last time I heard it I was home alone during the day and my dog was outside. I was in my room listening to music and tidying up when i get the sense someone is behind me. I turn around and I hear not one but two of those moans and it sounded like they were fighting each other. It went on for about 30 seconds this time before I shouted at it to leave me alone and turned my music up.
I have never heard it since and someone once told me that maybe the reason my dad and mum stopped hearing it was because they had ignored it where I was still scared of it and me acknowledging it and telling it to leave sent it away. They told me that becasue of this if i invited it back it would come back but im too scared for that as I have no idea what it was or why it was doing it.

I’ve had lots of ghostly experiences!
When I moved into a bungalow with my daughter we slept in a double bed together as we didn’t have any furniture. I had dreams about these faces kept coming up to me saying this is my house, why is she here. When I feel a presence around me I normally ask my grandad to get them out, I was doing this in my dream and they left. Also in this house I woke up one morning to hearing dogs footsteps on the wooden floor, you know when you can hear the nails catching, I could hear that! Then I saw the shadow run past my bedroom door, we didn’t have any pets.
Another night I was pregnant and you know when you wake up when you turn over I did that and I saw a little Victorian boy sat by my bedroom door playing with a wooden train.

I’ve got lots more xx

The Dear David thread on Twitter gave me nightmares! I read it ages ago when the blogger first posted it and I wish I hadn't. Very, very scary although it makes you feel better, I dont actually think it's real.
Saturday at 9pm I think on Really he has a show relating to other people similar experiences.

What I’m interested is why all of a sudden did it stop, or did I miss something. I did here someone bought the rights of it, but don’t know for sure

I'm not sure why it stopped. To be honest I stopped myself reading anymore because it genuinely scared the b'jesus out of me and I'm quite hardcore lol

Years ago my mum and dad went to go pick up their friends for a night out. As my dad was pulling up their driveway an old woman opened the curtains and waved down at him. As their friends got in the car my dad said to the wife “oh is that your mum inside babysitting?” She was very confused and said “no the kids are sleeping out and the house is empty”.

Then a couple of years ago I learned that in the first house I lived in as a baby; in the 1920’s a family lived there and the father murdered his 10 year old daughter by decapitating her. In the news archive about it apparently he had PTSD from serving in world war 1. When we found out my dad said he always had a funny feeling about that house. Glad I can’t remember living there.

And finally not a ghost story as such, but I was taking a walk a couple of days ago in the countryside. I was feeling a bit scared as it was quite secluded and you hear many stories of women being attacked whilst out walking/jogging. I was feeling sick to my stomach and so paranoid someone was following me and suddenly a beautiful red and purple butterfly landed in front of me. As I kept walking it kept flying past me and landing in front of me. It did that at least 5/6 times. I then remembered reading that loved ones spirits can appear as butterflies so I said aloud “Is that you Nan”? And suddenly the butterfly flew up and circled round me and flew off. I was speechless and then felt very calm. She passed away in 2016 and I miss her terribly❤. Really hope it was a sign from her that I would be safe. Anyone had a similar experience?

My experiences aren't that interesting but will write them
So when I was young I always used to get woken up in the middle of the night for no reason and then I hear a tv on or a radio, like people talking but low, (Not in my head it sounds far away) so I would sit there and hear the talking get up open the door walk to the landing thinking someone’s up watching tv downstairs I’m still hearing it then as soon as I got to the stairs to listen down it would just shut off and go silent And all the lights are off and everyone’s is in bed, it has happened a few times in the last 5 years and it’s still just as strange as I can’t imagine it or be asleep as I always get up and walk towards the stairs and then it stops, I googled it it’s something to do with sound waves... still strange

Also when I lived in my old house I always got weird hallucinations at night, they seemed so real I would be convinced I was awake, it happened all the time, i didn’t see people though mainly objects and things floating and moving, one time I heard someone call my name.. finally they stopped when I moved

Wow love this thread. Found it last night but had to come back in the daytime as I’m a wuss and like to sleep at night 😅

I was dead set against the paranormal been real as a child but experiences over the years have made me do a 180. When I was little my family lived in a small town police station for a while, it was on old sandstone building that was meant to be haunted. A lot of the cops who stayed there had creepy stories to tell. All I remember though is how cold it was even in the peak of summer.

When I was older we went on a road trip as a holiday and would stay at a new random place every night. One night it was getting quite late and we still hadn’t found anywhere to stay. Eventually my parents found a cluster of old buildings that had been turned into a motel. The place was eerie but we didn’t have any other options. It was clear from the layout of the building we were in that it had been medical in nature at one point. For example the common area with the microwave looked like it had once been a doctors reception area, including a tv mounted high in the corner. The bathroom was just one shared open room with the shower head positioned on an open wall, like some sort of delousing area. The bedrooms were just bare, with bunk beds to sleep in. I had the top bunk but didn’t manage to get any sleep that night. I just felt so incredibly creeped out and was sweating bullets in fear despite the zero degree temperature. In the morning neither my Mum or sister had gotten any sleep either, Dad though slept like a log but he’s immune to anything weird. Another of the building’s in the place had been converted into an antique shop and I hated the feeling in there too. Once we got to the next stop and had internet again I looked the place up and it used to be a mental institution. Hard pass on staying there again.

My first retail job had two ghosts haunting the building. One each on the second and third floors. When I started working there I thought people were just telling stories but I had encounters with both ghosts at different times so I believe them now. The one on the second floor haunted the ladies intimates stock room, and I was in there one day unpacking stock. As I’m working a trolley loaded with stock a distance in front of me just started rolling for about a metre then came to a dead stop again. Nothing was near enough to knock into it and it was way too heavy to move without been pushed. I bolted and refused to go back in there for the rest of the day.

The ghost on the third floor I had a lot of encounters with because it lived in the main stockroom I had to go into all the time. I would hear my name called out constantly even though I’d be the only one in there. Sometimes I’d even call back thinking it was another staff member but when I walked through to the opposite end no one would be there. It liked to pull on my hair and clothing too. Walking down the aisles or looking for things on the shelves I’d feel a firm tug on my hair, my sleeve, or the back of my dress. I couldn’t avoid that stockroom so I just kept ignoring the presence there. It didn’t feel malicious but I still wanted no part in whatever it was.

I lived in a haunted house a few years ago and my experiences there are what converted me fully into the ‘ghosts are real’ camp. But I don’t want to spam you lovely people. Thoroughly enjoying reading other people’s experiences, makes me feel less crazy.

Yes a Robin was in my garden staring at me getting very close, so in my head I said if you're my auntie come closer and it literally jumped down infront of me, looked at me and flew away and I definitely felt it was her x

Funnily enough I always associate robin's with my late grandmother. They've always reminded me of her, and I had an eerily similar experience to you recently. I was also out walking in the countryside near where I live on another lockdown jaunt, when I had to go through a dark over grown path. It was a bit creepy and full of brambles, and I noticed there was a little robin that was bobbing along side me for at least 10 minutes. As soon as I got to main road, it disappeared.

Another similar experience I had was about 7 or 8 years ago. I was visiting the town where I was born and my grandparents lived for years. At this point my grandmother was still alive but my grandad had passed. I was with a friend and we stopped outside my grandparents old house to have a look, as we did, a little black cat came up to us and meowed, nothing unusual about that except he followed us from that house for 20 minutes down the road. It could be completely nothing I'm well aware, but it was just odd how he met us at the house and stayed with us that long.

So I've been following this great thread for a few days now but havent had time to share my stories. They are long 😂😂

I grew up on a council estate in greater London on the site of what was an airport. I lived there from around age 2 - 20. Due to the age of the estate, there were ghost stories that generated for years and years. I was well aware of some of them as a child but never saw anything. Or so I thought.. but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Now my bedroom backed on to what was called The Boiler House which was a gigantic glass building with huge cylinders it it and it provided all the electricity and power to the whole estate. It was a bit of a creepy place, and I could see it directly from my window but other than that, I didnt take much notice of it. Now years and years later, I was having a little browse online and I decided to look up ghost stories of my local area. Loads came up, most of which I wasnt aware of when I was a child. One sent shivers down my spine. It was an extract from the local area and it said " reports of residents hearing community singing coming from the boiler house late at night." As soon as I read that I literally got transported back in time almost because I used to hear singing coming from outside my bedroom window in the dead of the night all the time. Like most nights. But it was something I had never ever even recollected or thought of until I read that story. I remember hearing like choir/group singing coming from outside my bedroom window so loud it would sometimes wake me up, but it never frightened me. I was always kind of half asleep when I heard it, and never really thought about it, just kind of accepted it as singing outside my window as crazy as that sounds. I had no idea it was ghostly until I read that story years later, like I said I had never even thought of it until then. The article stated that where the boiler house had once stood was a like a depo/staff area, and the workers were having a sing song around the piano and a bomb crashed near them.

This is a bit creepier but its one where I couldn't categorically say it was ghostly or just a dream. Still worth sharing though. I remember my childhood dreams/nightmares very well. One of my most memorable nightmares was when I was around 6-8, I couldnt tell you the exact age. I remember waking up to find the dressing gowns on the back of my bedroom door to be moving, like sideways in kind of a praying motion. Like nuns walking. A few years later I remember waking up (and this one felt less like a dream I have to admit) and seeing like a shrouded figure standing in the middle of my room. I hid under the blankets and forced myself back to sleep hoping it was just a dream.
Well again years later, while reading the same stories about the area, anyone prominent story was in the 1920s a plane crashed in the airport while taking off, including 3 nuns on board. The ghosts of those nuns had apparently been seen for years since the estate was built in the 60s. One woman had the council move her because she saw one in her living room. Like I said, I cannot say hand on heart that I saw the ghosts of these nuns and that they definitely were not childhood terrors. But I can promise that I did not know about these particular ghost stories until I went online decades later.

The estate is still there, my parents still live on it but it was knocked down and rebuilt. I have other stories, gosh loads let me know if you'd like to hear more, I dont want to overload haha.
