Never give gloves as a present as it means you'll part company with the recipient
My mum has one about gloves that it’s bad luck to pick up your own glove if you drop it but you can’t actually ask someone else to pick it up so you just have to gesture to it and hope the person knows what you want. Then when you get it back you can’t say thank you 😂🤷🏻‍♀️only ever heard my mum talk about this one. I think she just can’t be arsed bending over to pick it up if I’m around to do it lol

Once I tried a top on in a changing room and put my own top on inside out. I'd already left the shop when the woman I was with told it was bad luck if I put it right. This was in summer so I looked a right a until I got home. 🤣

I believe this stems from the days of duels, and you’d throw your glove down to request a duel, and if the other person picked it up they were accepting a duel to the death! Not sure about the no Thankyou part though 😄

My Mum was really superstitious so I grew up with loads of them. Don't put new shoes on a table.Don't pass someone on the stairs. Don't hand someone a pair of scissors. If you buy anyone a purse make sure there's money in it ... 🤪 🤪

The new shoes one was my mum, dear god she would go nuts over that !

Its now me with saluting magpies 🙈

My gran, the same one who used to lay the dead out, had all these superstitious you have all mentioned and the one that is constantly in my head because I’m a chef, don’t ever stir with a knife or you’ll be stirring up trouble.

Aghhhhhh Magpies. My kids hate me as I always have to salute them and say ‘Good day to you G’vnor’ and if there is another there I add ‘and to your missus too’! If I don’t do it, I get the terrible fear that something bad will happen 😬
Don’t whistle at night as it attracts spirits 👻
Also new shoes on table ✅ 👠👟
Purses and handbags always have to have a little gift of money inside for luck ✅💵💵💵
Break a mirror = 7 yrs bad luck ✅
But it can be reversed by knocking on wood twice! 🪵👱🏼
Never walk under a ladder ✅
If a black cat crosses your path you have to restart your journey 🐈⬛

Thanks Mum for leaving me with these weird quirks as your legacy 😂

Oh christ I absolutely adore black cats, and I feed a stray one, amongst others every day. I would never get anywhere. I'd be stuck in this constant cycle of having to go back. 🤣

I do not live in the UK and I was recently back there. No word of a lie, I was outside B&M (first ever visit) and I saw a magpie, I saluted him then stood around to the annoyance of my husband waiting to see a 2nd. I admit I did look stupid but didn't care.🤣

never heard that before. My mums last ever Christmas present to my sister and I were leather gloves...
I forgot to add, that this was my mum's saying, and I think that if you did receive gloves as a gift, you had to give a coin to whoever have them to you as payment so they wouldn't be a present...

'Stir with a knife, stir for strife' was the way my Mum said it.

I’ve always been told if a black cat crosses your path then something bad will happen, interesting that everyone has been told different things!

I love black cats
Saw a single magpie on the school run this morning , of course gave a 🫡 and a "Hello Mr Magpie how's your wife " , will now spend the entire day on the lookout for Mr Magpies wife 🙈

The dropped glove one, I’ve heard more than once while handing one over to its owner who dropped it “there’ll be more between us”…and thought that must be part of the superstition.

I always thought that black cats were considered lucky in Britain but unlucky in the States.

I recently moved house, it’s a newish build (14 years old) but at the end of the road is a cemetery.

Since living here I’ve felt like there’s a presence, I’ve seen a shadow in the corner of my eye throughout the day, can feel that someone’s standing behind me (like when your kids try and scare you by creeping up behind you), I often think someone’s walked past a room that I’m in but there wasn’t anyone there and I keep getting cold shivers down my spine (all day even though I’m not cold and there’s no other reason for me to shiver).

I’ve mentioned it to my partner who says I’m being ridiculous but I just can’t shake this feeling of someone else being here. And then last night my son was in his room and he said he thinks he saw a dark patch in his room, like a shadow. But when he got up it went. Nobody else has seen it or had these feelings, and I know my son wouldn’t lie about this, he’s 15 and seemed a bit worried by what he saw. I feel really uneasy and not able to sleep alone in my bedroom, it feels like that’s the worst room in the house and the one I can feel the presence the most.

Tried finding out the history of where my house is built but there’s not much to find

I’m side eyeing my black cats. That’s why I’m not a millionaire

I was always told that black cats are lucky.
