I’m cynical about lots of this stuff and also open minded if that makes sense? I love reading about everyone else’s experiences but I always start with the theory that’s there’s usually an explanation for it that’s grounded in reality (although I’d love it to be true). I do think that places and houses have ‘vibes’ and although I’ve never seen a ghost as such, you can definitely pick up on a feeling. In our last house, the wiring was ducked up, so you had to turn the kitchen light off on the far wall, then walk through the kitchen in the dark and I always hated it and felt like someone was watching me. I’m not sure of the connection, but we found out that a previous owner used to do backstreet abortions there.
We’ve also stayed in a couple of holiday cottages that have had the vibe. One of them, I just felt really depressed the whole week and when I looked it up online after the holiday, apparently someone had recently committed suicide there (the article didn’t last long online). Second one was in an old Georgian extension to an Elizabethan manor house in Cornwall. Modern renovation, but the bathroom had an awful feeling to it, and my husband wouldn’t go to the loo in the night and had to leave the landing light on. We’d go out during the day and come back to a windowsill full of dead blue bottles in the kids bedroom, even though the windows weren’t open and we never saw a live one. My daughter also kept ending up on the floor during the night, even though she’s never fallen out of bed before or since and we never heard her fall. Apparently, years before, someone had been walled up alive in the house when we looked it up but I took that bit with a pinch of salt although we decided not to book for a second year.
