What happens if you refuse to put one on?

Can you try a sticker chart, even a sweet of some kind (we used smarties with my son)
When he requests a nappy, take him to the toilet to sit on and even take a book to read with him?
I don’t feel comfortable refusing it, as he went through a phase of being scared to poo after a short period of constipation. I just read some material on ERIC (thank you @PillowsofFluff!) and it says you shouldn’t say no. I will definitely try working on some of the tips there. Thanks

One thing I read (although haven’t ever had to use, thus far) is when they are doing a poo in the nappy try move that happening in to the bathroom, so poo happens in the bathroom (still in the nappy). Then when that is ok and comfortable, move so it’s happening on the toilet, still in the nappy. When that’s ok, take slow steps to do it with trousers down, then with the nappy open (but still under their bum on the toilet) and eventually remove it through slow steps.

Mine stopped liking baths all of a sudden a few months ago, she is almost two and a half now. Tried a few things but she would literally have a meltdown. Then I tried just showering her and for some reason she was fine?! So she just had showers for a few months. I've recently started reintroducing baths again and she's back to loving them 🤷 make it make sense haha

Anyone got any tips for a growing 3 year old who keeps waking up at 6am hungry?! She eats so much throughout the day and it’s not just snacks, on Sunday night she had basically an adult sized bowl of spag bol and wanted more spaghetti 🙃 she had cereal before bed last night too. I wonder if nursery aren’t feeding her bigger portions🙈 I’m gunna mention it today and see if she can get a bit more lol

Instead of cereal before bed give her something a bit more filling - porridge, peanut butter on toast etc. something with protein will help her stay fuller for longer.

We went through a similar phase, i would give her apple and peanut butter and that would seem to fill her up a bit more. Its a growth spurt thing I think.

Also water as well. Grown up’s think they’re hungry but most of the time need water, same with kids.

Does she have a water bottle at night next to her?

she doesn’t like peanut butter and getting toast into her is a nightmare now😂fussy!

yeah she does, she shouts me to get it for her even though she can reach it

I wouldn't refuse either, holding it in causes more problems than using a nappy. Mine had constipation and they used a nappy for a poo for ages. At that age , they usually wait until they are at home before doing a poo. Getting them to sit on the toilet with their nappy on is good idea, like the other comment said.

Hello all, parent here to a very demanding 2yo and a placid 5yo. Think if the 2yo had come first we would have stopped at one 😂

A bit of a deep query but how are people doing with finding themselves again post-motherhood? I was very late to the idea of having children. It was definitely not something I had in my life plan at all, not even as a "will maybe do that someday."

I find parenting extremely exhausting and enjoy working as a break from this. At the moment I work PT whilst Mr B works FT. He seems to have more energy than me and still finds time for many hobbies and interests whilst most of mine had faded away. Unfortunately evenings are the only time I have to spend on myself and usually I'm in bed by 9pn because I'm so shattered. Both kids are in bed by 7.30pm and usually asleep by 8pm. That leaves the window of an hour of sorting out what needs done from the day plus getting ready for the next.

I know this isn't toddler centric but I'm really resenting the time Mr B has had to grow professionally as well as doing other hobbies. I do say my only hobby is reading but that's purely because it's easy to do around the children. We use grandparents for childcare whilst I'm working and there's no-one else that can babysit really.

What I suppose I'm asking is has anyone else encountered this and what have they done to overcome it?

Where does your other half get the time to pursue his hobbies if he is working FT with a family at home? I think you may be missing an obvious opportunity to ask for some time for yourself and get him to look after the kids while you have some you time. I think as mothers we are really bad at doing this. I have no professed hobby but I am trying to get better at recognising that if my husband can disappear off to the football between 12-7pm on a Saturday then I am surely allowed to ask for the same on another day? You being PT and him being FT is little to do with it as it’s not like you’re kicking your heels up when you’re not at work - you’re just doing a harder job that you don’t get paid for.

i have some friends who at the weekend take the kids in 4 hourly shifts - which I think is kind of genius to be honest, that way they both get some time to themselves regularly.

Hope he’s ok @strawberrysunshine_x .. mini A broke her leg when she was 1.5 and I was mortified!!! I felt like the worst mum ever. I’d left the stair gate open at the bottom of the stairs and she climbed up and fell down as I was in the kitchen 😫 it was my own fault and I cried when they told me. She’s fine now and no lasting injuries!

I don’t have advice but I am in the same boat, albeit still in the thick of baby stuff with a 6 month old and a demanding 2.5 year old ( he came first and we were still silly enough to have another 😂, luckily so far his brother is chill).

I will just say what I’m trying to do is intentionally carve out time, I’m still searching for a decent hobby but I’m going to at least try get out for an hour every Saturday for a gym session.

is there any of your responsibilities that Mr B could take on, that hour you have at night for sorting stuff for the next day can be help with that if he doesn’t already?
It’s so hard when you’re exhausted, the motivation to do something fun for ourselves at the end of a long day is near impossible!

that’s good to hear about no lasting injuries.
I just want to get home. Told work I won’t be in and they’ve said they need me in on Saturday. 😤

Oh no! Hope little man is ok. Sending love.

We have a sickness bug here. Another bug to add to the list of what we've had this year...

@WeHadFunRight Thank you for replying. I may have mis-represented Mr B here a little. He's always been a night owl and quite happy to stay up late. Meanwhile I am a bit more of an early riser. Sometimes I wake up at 5am but my eldest is a light sleeper. One time I did head downstairs to catch up on some house stuff and even creeping past his bedroom door woke him up. So now I lie in bed, doom scroll and read my Kindle if I can be bothered. Different schedules at play here. Weekends are a bit iffy as 5yo plays two sports on both days. Mr B takes him on Saturday and I take him on Sunday. I do admit that on Sundays I get an hour to listen to a podcast whilst waiting for him to finish.

At the moment it feels like we get so little family time and I feel I can't ask for big chunks of the weekend to myself. Especially as he tends to keep his hobby time to when the kids are in bed. As @Megatron1298 says, it's finding the energy to focus on something. Mr B does offer to make packed lunches etc. but it's the mental load of delegating that. I've tried before and it just doesn't set in.

I am hoping once the 2yo gets a bit older and more independent in a sense that I'll get a bit more time back.

I didn’t even know she had done it - she cried and then fell asleep for ages which I now know was due to the pain 😪 she wasn’t able to weight bare so I took her to a&e, I felt dreadful. It took me ages to get over it 😭 thankfully she won’t remember it at all! Let’s not forget kids break stuff all the time!
