How much child free leisure time do people get? I'm always with my children. If I'm out by myself I'm wither doing a boring errand or I'm walking the dog.
I need some time to myself
Also honestly not a lot, I’m at that stage where I’m absolutely shattered once I get my boy to bed but still stay up late to get some ‘me time’ and I feel the same, I’d love a day where I can just get up and think about myself and only myself the same way my husband does (not being bitter but it’s true) for example just getting in the shower, getting dressed then getting on with my day 😅 it’s hard isn’t it, hope you find some time soon to do something you enjoy x

Two hours a week while I do a driving lesson. She’s starting preschool for two afternoons a week in sept so I’ll get some time then. I have so much to do before the baby in January it won’t be a rest but at least I can get on with it.
I’m my own worst enemy though because if my partner takes her out I usually tag along 😂

I go and watch a sport but the kids are always in bed before I leave and it's only for an hour or so, twice a month max.
That's all i get. And it's only during March to August.
The rest of the year, nothing.

The only time I get away when the kids are actually awake, is half an hour to do the shopping once a week 😂

My son goes to nursery three mornings a week, one of those I do boring housework, chores and errands etc. The other two mornings I do whatever I want to, exercise, go for a coffee, read my book in peace and quiet! It makes me a better, more present mum when I am with him. I know it’s not always possible but I really recommend at least a few hours a week for yourself. It really helps.

Zero. I am with the kids all day, in the evenings the baby doesn’t always settle so I’m with him most evenings, so not a moment. Over the years I’ve gotten used to it and it doesn’t bother me any more.
Still do enjoy a wee trip to Tesco every few months on my own though 🤣

eta: my big two are at school during term time, but my little two don’t go anywhere. I work part time during term time so I get maybe 1-2 days a week when I’m at work! That’s my kid free time (except I’m a sub teacher so it’s others kids instead 🤣)

My son goes to nursery two mornings a week so I tend to get housework done and try and do a workout. On the days where he’s not at nursery, my mum will sit with him for an hour (she only lives 5 mins away) while I get a wee walk. My husband works away so I’ve been on my own a lot so I find that hour long walk really helps with my sanity 🤣

I took my dog to the groomers at the weekend just gone actually and my husband asked can I nip to the shop pick up xyz and I just said ✨no✨ and sat in the car the whole hour I was waiting for her with a coffee whilst listening to an audio book and it was pure bliss 😍

I am also my own worst enemy though because when the weekend comes I want us to go out as a family rather than my husband taking my son on his own so I don’t feel like I can whinge really 😂 I always feel like if they go out without me I’ll just be sat twiddling my thumbs waiting for them to get back hahaha

I’m glad it’s not just me. I like to do things as a family too. I have my own time in the evenings and when I get my hair / nails done etc. plus I work full time so I feel like I barely see them as well as it is 😊

yeah I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, when we’re in the thick of motherhood we crave alone time but when we get it or when we’re working we get the mum guilt 😅 it’s a vicious cycle sometimes!

Oh bless you, you’ve done exactly what you needed to do for your family and your son gets to see his Mum get up and go out and provide for him every day ❤

He goes to nursery 3 days a week which he loves , and in September he’ll be doing 5. So that is a lot better. It’s when I have to leave him with my MiL i feel the most guilt 🙈
He goes to bed at 7ish most nights so I feel like I get plenty of evening time to chill and don’t crave alone time 🤣

Hardly ever. The only time I get is when I get my nails done. But I’m not really someone who craves it. Can you plan a Saturday afternoon away from them?
I'm really craving it at the minute.

I'm counting down till my little one starts at the school nursery, they are desperate to go there too

Sounds like you have a good routine, I imagine I will do something similar when the time comes.

I do feel like a regular break from the kids will make me a better person to be around.

When I have had time to myself I get so overwhelmed and don't no what to do or I try to cram too much in cos I don't know when I'll get the chance again.

Same here. I can’t imagine ever being home alone at the weekend while my husband takes the kids out (unless I had something really specific to do in the house). It’s our family time, and we like spending it all together. Just what works for us 😊

Definitely try find even just an hour for yourself in the near future, if just to have a long bath or watch something rit on the telly with good snacks!

So before I post I’ve got to say I’m a single mum (which helps a lot with my “free time”)

My daughters Dad picks her up from nursery on a Tuesday then takes her to mine (we live down the road so easier), I go straight to the gym after work and when I get home she’s bathed and in her pjs.

On a Thursday she goes to my Dads for the night so once I’ve dropped her off I get to do what I like, generally the gym and a shower in peace before work on a Friday.

I usually have her Friday night and Saturday morning then drop her off at about 10:30am and pick her up 4pm Sunday. This will change though soon as her Dad has a season ticket for local football team so I soon will have to do split weekend but my Saturdays free will be every other 😂😠

I am lucky to have lots of free time but that obviously comes down to being able to share my daughter and family/her Dad being useful. Prior to being a single Mum I got hardly ANY free time. Literally a shower in peace if I was lucky! But with that being said I can’t leave the house once my Daugher is in bed during the week whereas non single Mums have that luxury 😂

I’ve just dropped my hours at work starting from August down to 20 and 2/3 days I’ll finish at 3 so it’ll give me the chance to go the gym/catch up on housework/more me time before getting her at 5pm from nursery. It’ll make the world of difference to me and you’ve just got to do what’s right for you haven’t you? I won’t get stuck in traffic on the way home either. Little things that annoy me! Well worth the £90 a month paycut.

Wasn’t sure whether to post this in the new baby thread or here as my daughter has just turned one (😭) but has anyone ever had it where their LO’s have refused to wear shoes!? She started taking a few steps just before 11 months and has been properly walking for a good few weeks now so took her to get her feet measured and she cried and had an absolute meltdown when trying to put shoes on. We managed to get her size so I bought some shoes and tried them at home, she still cried, like properly sobbing. She would stop and then look at her feet and just cry again 😢 I’ve tried softer shoes as I’m not sure if they were hurting her but she just won’t wear them. I think it’s more of a sensory thing, I know it must feel weird for her. Any advice appreciated!

Mine hated his shoes at first. He cried his eyes out. I actually have a pic of him and he’s sobbing , But it didn’t last long, he was fine a
Half a hour later . Will she walk at all in them? Can you distract her when she has them on and get her walking and looking at things ?

She won’t walk in them at the moment. I’ve tried different places (in the house, garden etc) but she just cries hysterically and won’t move. I sat her on my lap and tried distracting her which worked for a few seconds but it’s like she realised she had the shoes on and started crying again. Maybe I’ll just have to keep doing that so she gradually gets used to them! Thank you
