I like the name August. But I’m sure they said it would be a ‘straightforward name’ so I was imagining Tom or Sam or something like that.

I don't think August was the first choice, apparently the queen rejected the first name.
Where did you read that? I don’t think the Queen has prerogative over naming choices outside the next six heirs? Unless it’s a grandmother thing, she just didn’t fancy the first choice 😂
Funnily enough I remember that when Sophie Wessex’s son was born she wanted to call him Archie but the Queen stepped in and vetoed it. I can’t find any reports about it but I’m so sure it happened because that’s the first thought I had when M&H announced their son’s name.

It is of Latin origin, Roman emperors were named August, and was common in Poland and Germany for a while. I find it a bit stiff and old-fashioned.
The Zuckerberg baby girl is also called August.
I did not know that! I thought it was a mainly German name! I see August more as a feminine name myself.

August???? Poor sodding kid.
There was a girl I went to school with whose first name was April and middle name was May 😭 but August is cute for a baby, I'm sure he'll be called Gus when he's older, August doesn't sit as well for an adult imo 🤷🏾‍♀️

First thing I think of when I hear August as a name is the Jon Ronson podcast, Last Days of August, which is about a porn star - probably not the association they were hoping for!!

Sorry, but why do they need her approval for the name? Especially since the child is so far down the line it wouldnt matter! The other poster was right about them being toxic

I believe it isn’t pronounced like the month but more like you would pronounce Augustus tho it is a name in its own right! Very old name.

I got mixed up reading stupid click baity headlines, queen didn't reject this name, she rejected Fergies choice for Beatrice, "Annabel" the Queen thought it was too yuppy. Sorry about that.
I'm pretty sure they do have to run the name past her before they officially release it though.

Eugenie Said on Insta Story that her baby was named after his great grandfather and both his 5x grandfather, so this explains where the inspiration comes from.

So sadly not Charlie and The Chocolate Factory ;)
