Dulux evidently did not want to pay for a Story either 😜

I get that brands shouldn’t expect freebies as such but why does she have to be so petty about it. Mark it as an #ad and move on. Or set up your rate card so it’s not possible to buy a blog post without also buying an Insta post + story as well. Simple.

It’s like by doing it the way she has, she thinks she is showing them up or will use it as an example in contract negotiations next time she thinks a brand is shafting her. Either way it’s not the power move she thinks it is.

Totally agree - it makes her look great unprofessional, and if I were the Dulux marketing rep, I wouldn’t work with her again.
It’s just a poor decision on her part; who would go to her blog first? I’m sure the only traffic to it is from her IG!

Her living room brings me out in hives. Why, with a spare room dedicated to coats and an entire home office off the kitchen, would you turn over your only family space to packaging boxes for whatever tat you plan to sell next?

They are just so strange. It’s not aspirational, it’s not relatable, it’s just weird.

It requires more time to write a blog post than an IG post when there is less formatting and checks. She is clearly resenting that her peers are having more money and success than her. She probably felt she has been hard done by the industry

But seriously, would any of you actually look at that post and go OMG I MUST find out which paint brand produces that colour. Not like every paint brand on earth does a teal/eggshell green colour or you could just walk into Homebase and look for one? I get so confused about how these people think they “influence”. If I wanted to paint a room a certain colour I would look at a dulux/F&B colour chart…
I think Dulux have been duped by the F&B emporer’s new clothes epidemic. No one was buying F&B off the backs of Insta mamas because it’s tit paint at a premium price point, no tradesman wants to use it. When the brand are gifting you it & paying some poor bloke to apply it then yeah maybe you’d consider it but no one else is. Dulux take note huns!

Why wouldn’t she just declare it instead of drawing attention to the finer detail of her contract. It’s in the spirit of the law to declare it. Or instead word it Dulux sponsored me to write a blog post, but leave out but not this post.
It’s ridiculous and not sure how it makes sense legally. Seems silly not to put #ad just in case the advertising watchdog people decide you are in breach tbh?

Literally just finally signed up on here after years of just casually reading whenever Instagram left me wondering if anyone else noticed various insane levels of hypocrisy etc, but this John Lewis everyday ad situation is beyond ridiculous for Alex - a puffer coat when she never stops singing the praises of her beloved leopard one from gap or wherever, about how she never needs another as it’s so great and timeless… AND SLIPPERS when she spent weeks on some insane long boring slipper hunt?! Of all the things she could have chosen from her next greedy haul in this ‘ongoing relationship’ or campaign or whatever she wants to call it. ARGH! Ok I feel better now. Hi!

The crusade is back! :geek:
For the life of me I can’t understand this, she’s literally just posting Google images of mostly celebs wearing glasses in a fictional capacity (movie)
Has she written a thought piece or article to explain how doing this will help people who wear glasses?
it’s the most ridiculous and poorly thought out campaign. Literally everyone middle aged I know wears them at some point.
way to stand up for the minority Alex!

Argh! duck off with the bloody glasses!
Bahahahaha! She included one only the chipmunks!

It’s such a weird thing to do, as a lot of them are fictional characters, with the glasses used as a plot device or something to describe the character 1 often as a stereotype - so she’s totally mixing up her point!

I really wouldn’t be surprised if she’s going HARD behind the scenes for a deal with an optician

The thing with glasses is that 99% of the people wear it because they had to, well unless they are Zoe Sugg. Personally I don’t like wearing glasses when I have to run errands or do anything sweaty.
What is there to normalise when it is so normal I wear glasses? Even on troll site like Tattle, I have not seen someone criticising someone for wearing glasses, we criticised poor glasses choice which is a totally different thing.

She’s seen Erica Davies range of boots for people with larger calves and wants a similar niche. The thing is Erica is clever at picking up on trends - seeing gaps where she can address an actual need. And being the conduit between her audience and brands. For example I think she did good work highlighting the lack of cool, age appropriate (ie not descending into gender cliche) clothing for boys and consulted for a few high street brands about it. (Apologies if I have remembered that wrong). Erica knows when it’s not about her.

but alex is genuinely baffling because strong statement glasses have been in fashion for a very long time from high fashion advertising all the way down. She’s not addressing a need except her own neediness over a few people on a niche forum saying they thought her glasses didn’t suit her? Such a weird thing to turn into the hill you want to die on.

Yeah. It’s not an issue except in her head, and one entirely of her own making because she chooses such deeply unflattering glasses.

I wear glasses every day as I can’t wear contacts often as I have dry eye disease. I can’t say I’ve ever had anything said to me except for positive things such as “your glasses really suit you!” I’m the same age and it’s such a non-issue.

Ok so this is probably dorky and petty but has really pissed me off today. The postal museum “had a cute mail train” - it’s the feckin Mail Rail, Alex! You’ve just been to the whole museum and didn’t get it?! Sure, it’s open and rideable and fun for visitors but it’s SUCH a cool interesting part of London history. It was built in the 1920s! To move the Mail around in tiny underground tunnels - it’s SO fascinating (if you’re into that sort of stuff) - it’s not a bloody teddy bear funfair ride… ugh. A bit expensive…?! Yeah. It used to only be open once every few years as part of Open House or very specialist events and cost a LOT to restore and reopen!

Agreed! I went to the museum at the start of last year (before the world ended) and thought it was a fantastic museum and really well set up for families with small children. The little rail Mail train ride at the end was a fantastic way to finish it off. I don’t remember thinking it was any more expensive than equivalent attractions cost in London, and it sort of makes me a bit sad that she is giving a review purely on price.

Agree massively, but with a lot of the Insta floggers I get the impression they resent having to spend on the children they pimp out for cash. Less so for AS (now…) but it’s not an uncommon thing sadly.

Ty for your reviews though, will take my little one when she’s a tiny bit older! 😊
