4.5 wool, year round - if it gets really cold I add a hot water bottle, used to add a blanket as well but have had problems with my knee which mean that I get very uncomfortable if the covers are too heavy. It's lovely to see other single duvet fans here, I always feel weirdly defensive about this. We switched to having two single duvets on a double bed some years ago when I was having chemo and night sweats and have never gone back to double duvet - my partner has a 10.5 feather duvet year round plus one of those M&S fleecy blankets. (I find changing the bed linen much less of an effort with singles.) (The wool duvet is machine washable/line dry, the feather one visits the dry cleaner)

4.5 most of the year, 9 in the depths of winter when it's properly freezing. Never clip them together for 13.5. We are in a mid terrace which seems to retain the heat well, and I hate being too warm at night!

It's recommended to get one 10% of your body weight. So if you're 90kg, get a 9kg one
We discovered the single duvet thing almost accidentally when we had to move into my parents for a few months and slept in the grandkids twin beds pushed together. Game changer. I believe it's common in continental Europe as well.
I agree people often find it weird, but I'm baffled as to why. Don't knock it til you've tried it!
I agree, I have one as well. In the heat waves I swap to a light weight quilt I made in Liberty fabric.
I also have a memory foam mattress topper. I can’t sleep without it, because of fibromyalgia.
I switched to a 4.5 down duvet for Summer about 4 years ago and just never went back to my 13 tog Winter one.
In really hot weather I sleep under an empty duvet cover as I have to be covered to sleep.
I have a weighted blanket too, mine came with a washable cover and it does work but makes me very warm so can only use it in colder weather. It takes a bit of time to get used to it but would recommend them. Mine was a sale purchase on Amazon.

We have a 2.5tog duvet from IKEA - absolutely love it. Stumbled across it by chance when looking for a cooler duvet for my little one who is a sweaty bod but loves to snuggle down.
It has a nice weight to it which I prefer but lovely and cool. I just use a blanket and/or heated blanket in the winter as Mr Beds is a hot bod too.
Weighted blanket wise I picked one up from the middle of Lidl and love it, though it’s been kicked off due to heat currently.

I used to have a thick duvet for winter but since teddy bedding I only use a lightweight summer duvet all year now, cotton covers for summer and teddy for winter
Yeah, I lived in Germany 20ish years ago and was surprised at the time how difficult it was to find a double duvet, a pair of singles was the norm and what I ended up having, although I was single at the time.
We are starting to find it a real pain to change our king size. Been trying to persuade the husband for a while now that two single duvets on the king size bed is the way forward, esp as he's a proper duvet hogger. He's not keen, he thinks I'm trying to stealthily get us into a pair of twin singles so he is resisting!
He's a hugger whereas I like my space when sleeping, particularly now I'm at the age of night sweats, so I'd be totally fine with twin single beds tbh
The teddy stuff really has been a game changer, I used to rely on (reassuringly expensive so it didn't go bobbly) brushed cotton which also needed ironing.
I have no duvet in the summer, just the duvet cover sheet, ive got a south facing bedroom and it gets absolutely boiling. In winter I still have quite a thin one 4.5tog, as my bed is right next to the radiator. I wash the cover, sheet and pillow cover every 2 weeks, never wash the duvet, is that bad?

I HATE changing duvet covers. Whoever decided that was a valid task should be shot. I still can’t get the hang of it now.
I hate fitted sheets that spring up from the corners. I got these little elastic things that hold them in place but they pop off too.
I hate soft pillows you sink into, my pillows are flat and rock hard. I hate change in general though so have struggled to get a pillow that I enjoy.

I've had the weirdest think recently. For years I had two pillows. Usually a mix of medium and firm. Then, about 2 years ago, I changed my pillows and I haven't been comfortable since! I can't tell you how many pillows I've got through and the combinations.
I bought a brand called Highams from Ebay for my children. They are grey and come in a variety of sizes and weights and were very reasonably priced. About £25 if I remember correctly. I put duvet covers on them to protect them and just febreeze and air the actual blanket when I wash the cover. We've had them a couple of years now and they seem to be going strong still.

.Absolutely no reason to feel defensive about it. I'm a massive evangelist and it's 100% normal in Germany. The only thing I can't get on board with is having them folded on top of the bed like the Germans do. We have a bedspread that hides them, but it's not quite as neat or pretty as one duvet would be.
