Are silk pillowcases just a marketing gimmick or legit??? And Is mulberry a type/grade of silk?

Also love the spite refusal to purchase .

Silk pillowcases are moisture wicking and low heat absorbency. They'll keep your head cool and supported, as well as treating your skin and hair better. Due to the softer nature of silk, as well as the long strands, it is a gentler surface to sleep on, and causes less hair breakages.

And this is no Mulberry Silk, this is triple-A Mulberry silk, where the silk worms are only fed the white leaves of the mulberry bush to produce the best quality silk you can find. If they have no Triple-A mulberry silk then they just stop production. They don't blend their silks! There are also red and black mulberry leaves, but the mulberry silk company would never dare use such filth.

Also, in the multitude of years Mulberry silk has been trading this boring old fart has only received 17 returns, in all those years, can you believe it? Wow.

I bought a brand called Highams from Ebay for my children. They are grey and come in a variety of sizes and weights and were very reasonably priced. About £25 if I remember correctly. I put duvet covers on them to protect them and just febreeze and air the actual blanket when I wash the cover. We've had them a couple of years now and they seem to be going strong still

I have this one! Got it at the start of the pandemic. I love mine. My cat did revenge piss on it, when I was keeping him inside, a well deserved punishment for the terrible crime of preventing a fight wound getting further infected. So worth being aware that if you live with vindictive creatures you might want risk mitigations in place, as they cannot be washed nor I think dry cleaned (the gravity blanket, I mean, though this also applies to my cat).

I am so glad this thread exists, merely so I can tell you about the silk duvets they flog on Ideal World late on ITV.

This guy that owns the company is the male version of Gloria Hunniford but 10 times as boring. OMG. The actual product sounds decent, but I'd never buy one out of spite. I don't want my money in this dull, dull man's pockets.


I mean, the info I could tell you on Mulberry Silk duvets, lol.

I have 4 duvets which I realise is probably excessive, but I use them all and am a fussy sleeper. If I’m slightly too warm or cold, I won’t sleep.

I have 10.5 tog for winter, 7.5 tog for spring and autumn, 4.5 for early/late summer and 3 tog for peak summer (which I’m under at the moment).

I’ve never felt the need to go higher tog than 10.5; even that one I find very thick and heavy. I sleep in PJs and socks too which helps. If I do ever get a bit chilly on the coldest nights then I throw a blanket over my duvet. I don’t think I could justify a 5th duvet and storage becomes an issue My son has 4 duvets too, so 8 between the both of us

I've got a Welsh wool 10.5 and 4.5 duvet. Live in an old farmhouse so usually it's the 15 tog for 11 months of the year. But I've been on 4.5 for months now. Boyfriend just has a sheet but even when it's baking I need the weight.

Do you have different togs for different times of the year?

I have a 10.5 I use all year round. Not warm enough in the winter and too hot in the summer.

I’ve got two that have poppers that go together in the winter, so I can have three different thicknesses

Only really ever use one cos I’m too lazy to get the other one out the loft, mind

I have been influenced to splurge on wool pillows (have been considering this for some time) as given the amount of time I spend in bed, I think it's a worthwhile investment. I've seen complaints about 'shrinkflation' and poor quality standards (notably multi-pack knickers) and definitely think that applies to pillows. I'm also still miffed about having recently had to replace a John Lewis mattress after 5 years. The product description for it now states that it is not recommended ’for regular use', pretty sure that wasn't there when I bought it originally - was hyper-vigilant about the new one.

Just dropping by to say Woolroom has 25% off at the moment. Having read their reviews and comments here I am seriously tempted as a menopausal hot flush sufferer.
Mr Fawlty and I get unnecessarily excited about autumn as it means we can soon get the brushed cotton duvet covers out. We use a 4 tog duvet most of the year with a throw in winter. Married life eh?

Just jumping in. Who knew duvets could be so interesting
I have two duvets, a 4.5 tog for summer and a 15 tog for winter. The 4.5 is way too warm for summer and the 15 isn’t warm enough! I live in an old static caravan so it’s like a greenhouse in the summer and gets ice on the inside of the windows in winter! I can’t win lol
I’m really fussy about bedding - I find so much now is poor quality and scratchy (I’m autistic so more sensitive to how fabrics feel on my skin). I like brushed cotton and jersey bedding and try to pick up some when I see them (as they aren’t hugely common in my experience).

Has anyone tried the weighted blankets? They are meant to help you sleep, but they can't be machine washed, so it's a no from me to handwashing!

Id LOVE a weighted blanket.
I used to ( pre pandemic) be a super deep sleeper, mostly sleeping between 8 - 10 hrs a night, fast forward to now, I'm menopausal and its REALLY affecting my sleep, I have no problem falling asleep, its the staying asleep thats the hard bit.
I think a weighted blanket would really help, but there are so many on the market I wouldn't know where to start??
