Sorry if you took it as me minimising how you felt with the "hair grows back" comment. I just meant that is how I feel. I've never been overly bothered if my hair went wrong. I used to experiment a lot and I guess I am lucky as my hair grow back quick.

During lockdown I gave myself a "shortcut" haircut I saw on youtube. I looked absolutely ridiculous! I had a bowl cut at the front and a mullet at the back. It looked awful

Fingers crossed you get yours sorted out quick.
Oh no, I didn't take it this way at all :) Nothing to be sorry about! I agree, it's just hair at the end of the day!

Haha, that's hilarious though! I'd say going wrong with a cut is a bit more annoying as you can't rectify if too short. At least with colour, there's always a possibility to fix.

Thank you :)

I hope any dog owners reading this have strong dog leads. Sorry for the loss of your dear cat cat 😪
Thank you my lovely. ❤ It was a complete fluke. The D-link snapped. it must have been faulty.

One thing I will say though if you have a greyhound or lurcher type who is lazy and just plods along.. never trust that it won't get the strength of a bear if it sees a cat running. I see the lady the other day and they now have the dog muzzled. I think that is a good thing with a breed like that. because it could rip the lead out of your hands if you are not expecting it to bolt.

I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. I would contact them and ask them to rectify the issue, but i’m not sure i would fully trust them again unless it was someone new. Hope you get a good resolution.

Oh @TheGlossy I'm so sorry you had such a terrible experience! 💔
I'm devastated for you!

I want to say right off the bat that from what I can tell, this is very, very salvageable by any experienced colourist who understands what you want.

The salon and individual members of staff sound bewilderingly poor - I'm so confused by them not wanting to look at your records, I wonder if they were purged or the new staff don't understand the system or something. They all sound really inexperienced.

Your loyalty to and satisfaction with the salon was based on the work of people who are no longer there, if I understand you correctly - the building owes you nothing, especially if your notes are no longer there.
How are you feeling about letting them try to fix it vs going somewhere else for a little colour correction?
Like @OnlyHereForTheLolz I'd usually advise you let the salon try to fix it (especially before spending more money somewhere else), but you've really got to go with your gut on this one.

I'll have a go at trying to work out what's gone on here in case it's helpful to you in your journey to the hair that makes you feel great.
This passage has some clues:
I let my hair grow out and it hadn't been tinted since before COVID so it was in pristine condition. The hairdresser told me the only colour should could give me was a dark chocolate brown because my natural hair is black. She advised if I wanted a lighter shade of brown, I'd need to do a balayage.
So tint doesn't lift - it doesn't lighten your hair and that's what you want to achieve, generally speaking, right? So yes, a hairdresser could apply a tint to your black hair and the best you could achieve in the brown spectrum would be a dark brown.
If you want to go lighter (which I think you do?) I'd be offering a permanent colour and/or highlights - I probably wouldn't be offering balayage as the first option because, if I've understood you correctly, you're looking for an all-over lighter brown appearance with maybe some fine dimensional highlights (probably not blonde, but shade/s of tonal brown). Balayage is generally more useful for larger slices of lighter colour painted on in a fairly natural looking way, usually concentrated on the midlengths and ends, rather than a more evenly distributed sprinkling of colour as fine highlights could offer which can go closer to the root.
I think they've fundamentally misunderstood what you want at this stage already.

When you say...
I went by what I used to do in the past (brown at the top and through the lengths with lighter streaks - not full on highlights - here as halo and there but really well blended with the root).
... Are you describing something like what we now call a root smudge or root melt? Because that is something I might actually suggest balyage for.

These are all questions and clarifications I'd be asking along the way if I was doing your hair. It is absolutely not your fault you didn't use their terminology to get your point across - this is a huge part of their job - to establish exactly what the client wants in order to do that for them.
Did you show them pictures of what you wanted?

I'm so glad you spoke to the colourist and they did something at the time, although I'm cross that they tried to tell you what you wanted. I'm glad the manager was receptive and willing to fix it. You should definitely be seeing a senior colourist for the correction and they should 100% understand exactly what you're describing before they start.
To be very frank, the salon/staff sound not only rude and unhelpful, but a little bit old fashioned - what I think you're describing is a not-uncommon contemporary look, and what they've delivered seems like an interpretation of what you asked for, delivered by someone who has had no professional development and not kept on top of trends & techniques for some time.
Ooor they're completely inexperienced - they are certainly not experienced in helping people.

Please, please don't attempt to fix this yourself. Please don't put box colour on your beautiful hair - it will make any future fix or salon work very, very difficult.

I really hope you can pursue this until you get what you wanted - you really deserve to both feel great and get what you paid for.
Just to reiterate - this should be a fairly simple colour correction & fix and there shouldn't be any serious harm done to your beautiful hair.
Please let us know how you get on - I've got everything crossed for you!

Apols all for the essay!

@Some People! Thank you so much for the kind words & expert insight! Much appreciated! 100% agree with everything you said. All is very accurate.

Can you be my hairdresser? Haha. You were spot on without even me telling you what I exactly wanted. I wanted a lighter brown indeed with fine dimensional highlights, not a full blown balayage. This is what I told this stylist - my previous hairdresser never did a balayage and always stuck to tint and halo yet this one kept saying “I don’t understand how she was able to do your hair without balayage”.

Given she said they could not find my records, I showed pictures of the brown I wanted and she said it required balayage. Again, the picture had zero highlights. It was just a lighter brown.

I felt she was a bit done deaf and did not want to listen at all. Not to mention, when she asked me what type of color I wanted for the fine dimensional highlights, she didn’t give me 1 minute to think, closed her book of color samples and said “we’ll just go ahead and see how light we can go”. I therefore had no clue what she was going to do.

I think I am quite reluctant about going back there again because she was extremely defensive and rude. The way she stormed off without even saying a word to me when she saw me at the reception when I was about to payit was disrespectful. I cannot be treated this way when I’m spending upwards of 200e to get my hair done. It’s a pretty hefty budget especially in times of recession. For me the disrespect and rudeness were the nail in the coffin. If she had acted in a nice and polite manner, I would have given the salon another shot even with a different stylist. However, in these circumstances, I have a hard time getting past her poor attitude. The manager was kind and lovely which is why I feel bad he had to write this service off as a loss as they did not charge me, but maybe he should realize how his staff deals with complex situations is a reflection of their brand.

I also think she is the hairdresser and should have properly assessed whether the colors would blend well together instead of doing a patch work on my hair hoping for the best. It is her job after all to make sure the color looks uniform and well blended. I honestly cannot believe she said this terrible patch work is what I asked for and would be willing to pay for this.

I decided to book a consultation with another salon to see what their take on is when it comes to a fix. We’ll see. I was asked by the manager of the initial salon to ring today, but I haven’t yet. My hair looks far worse than it did yesterday :(

Here is what it looks like today:

Haha, you're so welcome - I'm glad you're persevering!

I think you should let the crap salon know that you won't be back and why - it's cathartic and helpful and might prevent anyone else from receiving that same terrible customer service.

A competent colourist will be able to work with what you've got, no problem. Some [better] highlights & colour/s, good technique, and a willingness to work with you, and you'll be good to go!
Why not have a treatment at the end of it all to take care of any damage and help you draw a line under the experience? Hopefully you'll be feeling fancy in no time.

Not sure if it’s ok to post, assuming if I’m making some huge mistake thread will be locked soon! So I’ve a severe hoarding disorder and just made the mistake of doing a search in case others do too and came across a load of posts that were really nasty about it and it’s really upset me. I tried to cook some food tonight and my cooker won’t heat up, it was previously buried and not used for months and now I’m distressed because of uncovering it, it not working, even more food hoarded and the posts I’ve found on tattle. I’ve pretty much no electric for months as lost my benefits due to care being abandoned by everyone so CAB refused to help (I lost mental heath support - even with fire brigade input I was good enough for them anymore, literally they sent two students with masses of bin liners to throw everything I own. Zero help or support as I’m just ‘filthy and lazy’. Can’t have a hot drink anymore either. No hygiene in years as lost carer as thanks to everything stopping due to covid I was deemed better by local authority. I wanted some hot food/drink as I got soaked yesterday and am still cold and wet today. I tried Samaritans and someone just fired questions at me about why I allowed things to get so bad.

Anyway, can ovens just stop working like that? I can’t let anyone in ever again. I’m being bullied by neighbours in my building and the ‘friend’ I told who called me a filthy tramp. Today I’ve been in bed struggling mentally with my doors blocked to be safe, CAB reported me to Facebook and got my account deleted for ‘lying’ about them not helping me get benefits (I didn’t lie but like so many their word is worth more than mine) and my neighbor making a racket. I’m sick of having to recharge my batteries (phone/iPad) in cafes and being freezing cold, in pain constantly, and lonely all the time.

Finally, just wanted to say that hoarding isn’t simple and if anyone ever confides in you about having the problem they need those things for whatever reason.

That’s sad to read , is your GP no help ? I don’t think hoarding is laziness it’s clear people have much deeper issues going on.

Oh my word I’m so sorry about people being nasty to you and you not having electricity! You don’t deserve any of that. Hoarding is a mental health condition and should be treated as such.

What is CAB?
Have you had your benefits back?

You don’t deserve to live in a cold, dark house you really don’t.

Wow. Thank you for being kind. Sat here in tears.

GP won’t support, they won’t even allow me meds’ I need told me to buy them; I’m on a daily collection as so severely depressed and they demanded that stopped as the risk didn’t matter however, the pharmacy refused to give me enough. The gp said they’re wasting £17000 on giving me daily scripts. I’ve only been seen once since March 2020. I’m not allowed to change or see another gp as ‘too needy and refuse to respect boundaries’ (the needy stuff was when I was conned into asking for help with depression and associated issues, the boundaries was complaining about a gp who went on holiday start of lockdown which they showed off about as it’s just a silly cold, week later my care was all ended as everyone was going to die!!).

CAB spoke to mental health team who say I’m fine, no needs and need to work (still sheilding and all services cab/gp/mental health team still all via phone so they’ve no clue how things are, I ‘sound’ great so am). I’ve several physical and mental health conditions but can access nothing in terms of help because people phone social services safeguarding or mental health team and told ive no needs. I’m not better just had everything abandoned in March 2020. I won’t get more than basic £79.80 (sorry typo!) a week as I’m classed as refusing to work; eventually I’ll lose that too.

Finally hoarding isn’t recognised as a mental health condition where I live in the uk. The quote ‘filthy and lazy’ came from mental health team. I was told I sort it or I’ll be put back on the street again and no one will ever rent to me again, not even hostels. The fire brigade lied I’d get full support for years (because that’s what it takes) but all that’s on offer (not to me, as I’ve no needs) is two students with bin liners one hour for two weeks and EVERYTHING will be binned like the last time and it was so devastating I can’t put it in words. I lost my passport, birth certificate, every single thing I owned (photos of dead loved ones, things I can never replace) and was forced to start again (ended up with even more). It doesn’t help that my bin was stolen Jan 2020 and landlord couldn’t replace due to council being closed since March 2020 so couldn’t get rid of things even if I wanted to for months on end.

That doesn’t sound right at all, what happened to duty of care to a patient, why have they stopped your prescription? Do they feel you’re abusing the medication? Evan at that they shouldn’t be abandoning you like that when it’s clear you’re in need of support.

Have you contacted HoardingUK? They are a charity that specifically deal with hoarding. I can't say I have ever used them but you might find someone helpful and supportive at the end of the phone? Places like that also sometimes have professionals who can advocate for you too.

Here is the link just in case you haven't

I can't answer your original question about the cooker but please, please get yourself some help.

They gp told me the nhs couldn’t afford to fund all meds so I must buy if available elsewhere. One is pain med (which is purchased in and kept by pharmacy and handed over daily) and the other is antibiotics.

Hoardinguk said I was too unwell for them to support. They only offer six weeks cbt which I’ve already done and it didn’t help. I can’t have antidepressants due to another condition and with zero support said it was too risky.

The problem I think in terms of support is services gp/mental health/SS are saying I’m fine to justify ending my care in March 2020. Can’t force people to support, I did complain but all I got was fire brigade who had rant at gp (surgery deregistered me) and SS who said they were being conned by my dramatics (same was said to hoardinguk). No ones even been in to do an assessment as I was in such a state when fire brigade turned up, plus only have a room and sheilding and there’s no room for another person.

Feeling a bit disgruntled with work and could use some advice about salary increases, work isses and whatnot.

I started a role around a year ago and not long into the job I was told I needed to take on some extensive admin tasks (totally outside my role), to cover just until they hired for the new admin person.

The admin tasks were previously done by 2 people but were somehow condensed into me doing them as 1 person and over the last few months they've taken up a crazy amount of time- but I sucked it up to be a team player and worked hard to impress my boss, colleagues and thought it was just until the new hire came.

Fast forward doing it for 6+ months and they've just hired the new admin person whose job I was doing and I've heard they won't be giving this admin person back what I am now doing! It's unbelievable - I really feel like it's hindering my current role as I just can't progress and say I've done XYZ in reviews as it seems like all my time is spent doing this other admin work. My life is in a bleeping excel document and this wasn't what I originally signed up for at all.

I spoke to my manager and she said she was confused by the situation and going to fight my corner but I don't know how she will, I know I'll be stuck with this now.

TLDR; How do I go about asking for a salary increase? I earn 36k as an assistant in my job so not badly paid as it is but I really don't think it's fair to expect me to continue with all this extra random work!!

What is a reasonable raise? I got 1k raise this year so pretty much peanuts anyway compared to inflation.. :(

I've never asked for a raise before and get anxious. Any tips/wording/advice would be so appreciated. I am getting an update this week/early next week but I sort of already know what to expect.

I just think it's really unfair and professional to not bother telling me until this person started as well, and to not be told directly. Absolute joke.

I suggest you work WITH your manager regarding a raise as they seem supportive. I don’t have any wording for you.

When in a similar situation without an understanding boss my contract was cancelled due to me not doing my job (I couldn’t as I was doing someone else’s!). They didn’t even tell me, I found out via gossip after my replacement started and was devastated.

Compared to when in nhs I had a supportive manager and we had a meeting to bash out a letter about my paid role and what I was doing and, in the end it came down to how much I saved them in getting the work done and a rise agreed. I was forced to leave shortly after due to illness but my managers help was invaluable, once I really rammed home I couldn’t meet the targets of my job whilst doing three others full time essential to medical colleagues roles and the stress it was causing. Basically I was happy to help but then found myself targeted by other departments for work they had; it was a long time before I spoke up and I regret that because my reviews were dreadful for the period that I didn’t.

That’s a lot of words to say : discuss with your manager! If they’re supportive they can help. If part of the problem then you’ve a bigger problem.

Am going away two nights to a holiday place near Edinburgh, anyone know a good place to board my rabbit near there? can't trust the little demon to stay home 😅 not that I'd want to anyway since it's two nights an not one, but my area has nothing an family aren't confident at taking him since he's quite the handful, he's a indoor bun as well so can't do outdoor places since he's never built up his coat plus he's only 6m so this is first winter too
